We had lunch here and it was an enjoyable experience. The food was tasty, the portions were big enough and the meals were served without much waiting. I should say it was totally worth the price which was reasonable. The staff were friendly and spoke both German and English. Even the menu was in both languages. As for the drinks, we tried two types of sweet Riesling wines and they were both very good.

Google
Our first foray at a restaurant in a foreign land. What a find! The staff was very kind and attentive. The menu selection was bounteous. The prices were nice, especially for the area. I found something on the menu that I have been looking for for years in the states. Marinated herring. I was in heaven. My wife had the German Style Meatloaf. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere was just perfect. My new favorite restaurant ever!

The place was busy and the food came out quickly. Prices were reasonable. Portions were great. Food taste well. Waiters were polite.

Google
Wonderful food and wine in an outdoor setting. We had literally arrived in Germany this same day and the warmth of our server and the excellent food and drink started our trip on the right foot. Weather permitting recommend eating outside. We sent the next day for the dessert which was excellent as well

I’ve visited this restaurant twice now, both times for lunch. The first time, I had to wait in a short queue before getting a table, but today I was seated immediately without any delay. The service is very friendly, especially by German standards. On top of that, the service is incredibly fast. From placing the order to having the food on the table, it took no more than five minutes. The food is excellent. The flavors are very well balanced and everything is seasoned beautifully. Even though there are some fried items on the menu, the dishes aren’t overly greasy, which makes the meal feel lighter and more enjoyable. I tried the soup with croutons, two variations of schnitzel, and the “Trierer Gefüllte” Kartoffelklöße (stuffed potato dumplings). Every dish was delicious, you can really taste the care put into the preparation and the quality of the ingredients. This restaurant is a must-try in Trier. Whether you're looking for a quick and tasty lunch or a place with consistent quality, it delivers on all fronts.

Very tasty and easy restaurant. Much of choice, fast, not expensive. Big plates and much food. Recommended.

Stopped by for lunch on a somewhat busy Friday. The place was fairly quiet when we arrived but it filled up quickly. It's fairly popular, especially amongst an older crowd, as the food also caters to that audience, but I was invited. Two of us had the schnitzel with paprika sauce and one had the mushroom cream schnitzel. The portions are generous but I feel like the food is very much cafeteria quality; the schnitzels felt deep fried and not pan fried. The fries were well prepared though, but the paprika sauce was very runny and not at all heartily seasoned. Staff was friendly and attentive though.

Google
The experience was very good and the food was very good and good Price ! The only problem is that we waited for the bill for 25 minutes, nobody came to ask if we wanted to go, we asked 3 times and never had it It was a bit too long

Yelp
This place has become sort of a tradition for me. Each time I visit Trier, the first night dinner in the city is always at Kartoffel-Kiste. They never disappoint. They may be potato in name but don't miss out on their meats. The steak with garlic butter is tender and cooked to perfection. The Leberkaese and Wurst is also excellent. Then the potato dishes seem to go on and on. There are so many items it may be difficult to make a decision. The staff is always happy to assist with suggestions. There may be tourists here but also many local people since good food is good food no matter where you are from.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. The service was awesome and they were able to help guide us on the choices on the menu. I opted to have the potato with the mushroom sauce on it (and it had melted cheese on top). It was so warm, comforting, and delicious. I really enjoyed it and the portion was rather large. Both of the kids had the kids sausage and they devoured it and really enjoyed it. Others had steak which was delicious since it was cooked with garlic butter (YUM)! We were too full for dessert, but we couldn't pass on the apple dessert. They also had a great beer list to choose from. Great large tables to sit and enjoy your time as a family or group of friends.

Yelp
This place was perfect for a weekend lunch in the city of trier. Walking distance from all the main attractions. Service was great and very helpful and friendly. The outdoor area was beautiful and great for casual people watching. Then there is the food. We ordered homemade potato bread and garlic dip as an appetizer. It was still warm and just amazing. Soft in the middle and had a nice crust on the outside. My wife ordered the schnitzel salad which was good but we've had better...in their defense we've been spoiled to that dish in the past. I ordered the grilled bratwurst with sauerkraut mashed potatoes and that was perfect. Everything on it was great and really hit the spot. Overall I would recommend and I'd be a returning customer. 5*****

Yelp
We ate here on a trip to Trier. This restaurant is amazing! They had a fantastic menu, in English, with a wide variety of potatoes cooked a lot of ways. My wife ordered the Trierer Gefüllte Kartoffelklösse, which is what I wanted to order. It was amazing! I ordered the Kappes Teerdisch which is a Trier specialty with bratwurst. My dish too was delicious. The place gets busy so go early. They let us come an hour before our reservation which was great because our boys were whining about how "hungry" they were. Not an allergy friendly place if you have food allergies.

Yelp
This is my second visit to this restaurant. It is a nice place. The host/hostess will seat you were you request, inside or outside. Its clean, not overly crowded, meaning it's not elbow to elbow when you sit inside or outside. The noise is average, you can have a conversation without having to scream. Reservations can be made. I walked in both times and was seated immediately. The staff is friendly and will help as much as they can if you don't speak fluent german, (such as myself). The menu is in german and english. The 1st time I had the scalloped potatoes with salmon, spinach and cheese sauce with a Coca-Cola. On my 2nd visit, my appetizer was bread with garlic I had Trier Gafullte, mashed, baked potato stuffed with ground beef covered with cheese and a cheese sauce. This dish was pretty good! I chased it with a few tall glasses of Hefeweizen beer. This particular dish was recommended by a few friends. It did not disappoint. The main players are potato based dishes, but there are also meat based dishes also. Pork and Salmon are also on the menu. This place takes cash (euros), debit or credit. The prices are reasonable. I would have given 5 stars; however on the 2nd visit, the waiter tried to "hustle" us, at checkout the waiter told us that the card readers were down, we would have to pay with cash. Luckily between the 3 of us we had euros. I noticed that the restaurant was packed. Basically the waiter could get a bigger tip based on party size. On my 3rd visit, we asked the waitress if the card readers were working and to split the checks, before we started ordering, she said "No problem, yes." At checkout we were handed off to another waiter, who basically totaled up our bill under one check, and factored in the large tip based on our party of 3. When we asked him to split the check he told us "there was a one card per table policy" we laughed and said "never heard of that one before", plus we were told that the check could be split by the previous waitress. Angrily,he proceeded to split the check 3 ways, his tip was small, since he tied to pull a fast one on us, then caught an attitude when we challenged him. We were handed off, because the waiter spoke more fluent English, combined with our limited ability to speak German. The food was great, but the settling of the bill is something that needs to be watched, especially if you are a tourist dining here. This action led to me deducting another star, on my review update.

Yelp
Potatoes are usually overlooked as a "blah" starch on your dinner plate but looking through the menu it was SO hard to choose what to get, every dish had totally reinvented ways of using potatoes. Sure, you could get the classic fries or mashed potatoes, but it was really refreshing to read things I've never imagined a potato could do. Based on a friend's recommendation I ordered the potato balls, which are two (large) meat filled balls covered in potatoes, and come sitting in a heavenly melted cheese plate. For an American living in Germany it's SO NICE to visit a restaurant with English servers (who are very nice and friendly!), and English typed on their menu. Will go back for more!!!

Yelp
I was impressed with the vast menu options. Our waiter suggested a traditional dish and an off menu special - so naturally we ordered both. The food was all delicious! Our waiter was entertaining. The atmosphere was casual but felt elegant with the candles. I'd definitely return.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommend to me by a friend and what a great recommendation it was. It's a very quaint restaurant in Trier. The service is excellent and the staff speaks English if you need that. The menu is in German and English too. The service and food was outstanding. I had probably the best bowl of potato soup I've ever had. The steak was slightly under cooked for my liking, but was still very good. All in all excellent restaurant. When in doubt...check it out!

Yelp
Really a lovely place to eat if you are looking for typical German kitchen. Very friendly and efficient staff. You will love the klössen: spinach in mashed potatoes. Moreover the price is very customer friendly!

Yelp
This is a very English friendly restaurant with a lot of local favorites. They have a normal Manuel and one with English translation. And the servers speak some English . Now on to the food . Any of the soups are delicious One of our favorite dishes is Trier Grefullte ground beef stuffed potato balls in a cheese sauce yummy. As there name states Kartoffel- its potato's and every dish has them in them

Yelp
You can find everything and anything you can think of made and with potatoes.. good outdoor seating as well as a very large indoors. It's quite crowded but still very good and quick service and not too noisy. Good for kids and large groups also

Yelp
Very good and very cheap. Potato salad was definitely American style but delicious anyways.

Yelp
I miss my grandma's cooking so much. This comes as close to it as it gets. If you like potatoes, this is heaven. If I lived in Trier, I would dine there all the time. My next weekend trips, I plan on many returns!

Yelp
This was my husband and I's introduction to German cuisine (and first time in Germany!) and we thought the food was amazing. We had the dorschfilet (codfish nicely fried and tasty, came with sauerkraut mashed potatoes which was delicious) and the kristen-kartoffel (chicken with cheesy, potato-y goodness) and we enjoyed both! Service was exemplary and we were grateful for the waiters that knew English but still let us converse in the limited German we knew. The prices were very reasonable and this place was conveniently located next to shopping areas. If we are ever in Trier again we will definitely be back!

Yelp
It was 2 plus in the afternoon when we arrived at the restaurant. Tables were really available. The waitress assigned to us was friendly and helpful. We ordered potato soup, salad, German potato balls and the trier specialty-roasted strips of pork. The meal was satisfying and delicious! The portions were generous and pricing was very reasonable.

Yelp
Food great = 5 Service lousy = 1 Overall score = 3 Extensive menu of traditional items with emphasis on potatoes. Potato soup starter was fine. Green salad was large with fresh veggies and dressing was good although butt ends of lettuce heads included. Entree of schnitzel was good. Potato salad side delicious. Entree of roast pork with sauce and fried potatoes was excellent!...heading for a 5? Nope. I saw our waiter leave via the front door not long after he delivered our entrees, never to be seen again! After half an hour I finally flagged down another fellow who admitted our waiter left early, but said the others were filling in for him. I said apparently not. He snarkly responded that in Germany they do not disturb diners until they place their silverware at 5 o'clock on their plates. So you never ask how the food is? Refill on drinks etc? No answer just smug grimace. Bottom line good meal ruined by poor, unprofessional service.

Yelp
I've gathered that kartoffel means potato in German. What an apropos name for this place! 19 out of every 20 items on the menu has potato. We stopped here because I wanted schnitzel and hadn't ever had it in Germany. For €10-12 for a huge piece of schnitzel and fries, I was not disappointed. The pepper cream sauce over it was great. The fries were pretty typical. My buddy and I finished our plates. And they were big. Man. Good good food. Beer selection was okay - the had a few on tap. Service was solid. This is probably a 4.5, but I really need to be blown away to throw a 5 down.

Yelp
I've never met a potato I didn't like and at Kartoffel-Kiste the only thing you meet on the menu are potatoes! OK, OK, if you're on Adkins this definitely isn't the place to go but come on...Adkins is so 2004. Located in the heart of Trier this restaurant is conveniently located and great for people watching. They offers a cozy dining room with a fresh feel and plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather cooperates (though it never cooperated on any of my visits.) With friendly and efficient service, a great bar and a delicious potato inspired menu how could this place not be a great time? If you're feeling like a glutton you should try the Chef-Schnitzel; wiener schnitzel combined and baked together in a skillet with Au Gratin Potatoes. You can dip the potato bread into the ooey gooey cheese that bubbles in the skillet. Then you can walk to your trusty cardiologist, but that's a different review.

Yelp
I am a picky American. Lived in Trier 6 yrs ex pac. I don't care who you are if you like potatoes this will become your favorite restaurant from anywhere in the world! Every dish is better than the next we've never seen anything like it in the US but we think we perfected the french fry. A must go and I'm sure after once you'll want to go everyday. I could eat there every night if not for my waist band. Great thing is in Europe you do so much walking you work it all off and everything you eat is freshly made no fast food (unless you look real hard it's not very good). I thank the owner of this place. I miss living in Trier for the good food, people and incredibly Beautiful country! Hope you give it a try

Yelp
The only way I could descried this place from an American's perspective is like an Olive Garden but instead of pasta they serve potatoes. Olive Garden in my mind isn't bad but it isn't mind blowing either and that is how I felt about Kartoffel-Kiste. The place does have a lot going for it. The space is large, family friendly, and prices that are very reasonable. The menu is in German, English, and French to accommodate travelers. Our server spoke English and provided wonderful service. As for the food....soup was delicious and I would get it again but the Vesperteller was served cold which I was not expecting. The restaurant seems to be very popular so if you're in the area it might be a good choice. I think if you are looking for a place to fill up on the cheap you will be pleased but don't expect gourmet.

Tammy K.

Yelp
Five potatoes . Probably the best meal in Trier, thanks to great service and food. You cannot go wrong with potatoes in Germany. I wouldn't normally opt for such a specialty, but it seemed like a good bet. It's entertaining for the translations on the menu as well as the good cuisine. We had the two specialties of Trier, though I can't remember the German names. One was pork and fried potatoes. Yum. Pork was not overcooked, and the potatoes were amazing. We also had potato balls with pork. When we asked the waiter to describe it, he just said it was the "classic German potato ball." It turns out that this is a pork meatball in the center, surrounded by a huge ball of hash browns, and the whole thing covered in a delicious bechemel sauce. The service was awesome, very attentive. The price was insanely low. Highly recommended if you have any taste for potatoes.

Yelp
Visiting Trier from the US for the first time. The service was okay but the food and ambiance were delightful. Recommend for a good lunch while in Trier.

Yelp
Limited amount of vegetarian options but good overall. Prices are fairs. Can recommend this place

Yelp
Delicious, local German fare. Right on the main pedestrian walkway, easy to find. Waiters knew English and were helpful picking out a traditional meal. The chocolate cake was amazing!! Cheap vodka shots too which is a good thing! We ate inside as it was January and very cold out :)

Yelp
Very tasty schnitzel options. Their pan fried potatoes were also delicious. Good selection of wines and beer. Was very busy even on a Sunday evening. Well worth the visit.

Gwen G.

Yelp
Schnitzel was very good. The potato balls stuffed with meat was also very good. It was topped with a great cheese sauce. We enjoyed the restaurant.

Glenn C.

Yelp
Food actually has no flavor what so ever. This is hard to achieve. Had the schnitzel, and it was pre cooked ( came out in 2 mins) dry, and tough. Worth trying somewhere else.

K H.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Trier! Any time we had friends or family visit we would make sure to stop in for some delicious potato dishes. They have great seating options for small and big groups and we loved sitting out on the patio when the temps were comfortable. If we ever make it back to Germany this will be one of our first stops for sure!!!

Megan K.

Yelp
The food here is awesome! We had a version of potatoes au graten, potato balls, and potatoes with sauerkraut. Everyone loved their food and had more than they could finish.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food for a good price. In case the name didn't give it away, it's a restaurant that specialises in potatoes, from chips, to baked, with everything else in between. Staff were lovely and attentive. There's a version of the menu with sections printed in every language ever possible. I ate spit roasted pork with fried potatoes, and I'm generally not a pork person, but it was amazingly seasoned. Others ordered schnitzel, steaks, salads, and a baked potato bathed in melted cheese and spinach, which were all extremely enjoyable. At the end of the meal, all plates were empty. I'd highly recommend the restaurant to friends as an inexpensive fun German experience.

Mike L.

Yelp
Our daughter and son-in-law live nearby, and recommended we try this restaurant. They raved about the food. We were not disappointed. We had the codfish, rump steak and bratwurst between the four of us. All were excellent. The sour kraut in the mashed potatoes was superb. I love both, but have never had them mixed together. The location, close to shopping and the tourist area, and the service were great. This will be a must stop during our next visit.

Yelp
Fazit: Empfehlenswert.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Trier and the surrounding area. The baked potato soup is fantastic as is the baked potato with garlic aioli. I had the special Spargel with hollandaise over snitchel. It was perfectly cooked and the flavors were terrific. Service is very fast and the wait staff is friendly. The restaurant is kid friendly and the menu is printed in several languages. All around this is a great place.

Yelp
Another great meal here. Never felt rushed. There were people waiting which normally doesn't happen here.

Yelp
Make sure you are hungry, good sized portions of hearty food. My favourite spot on a cold day. Friendly staff and spotlessly clean.

Yelp
worst food in town... better never tried it. one of the worst food experiences i have ever made.
