Very good open face sandwiches and traditional Danish food. Perfect for lunch. Some of the most charming staff I have met.

Google
Authentic Danish cuisine at its best! Restaurant Kronborg offers a cozy, old school vibe with some of the best traditional smørrebrød I had during my trip. The ingredients were fresh, portions generous, and the flavors perfectly balanced. The staff was friendly and attentive, happy to share recommendations and explain the dishes. Whether you're a local or visiting Copenhagen, this place is a gem for a true taste of Denmark. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Fantastic Danish sandwiches in a cute little restaurant with their own home made schnapps. It's a lot of food for lunch, so I suggest sharing the summer platter with your friend.

Restaurant Kronborg is a true gem for anyone looking to experience real Danish tradition. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the food is exceptional—authentic, flavorful, and made with high-quality ingredients. Every dish feels like a carefully prepared classic, and the selection of smørrebrød is fantastic. The service is exceptional. The waiters are not only helpful but also genuinely pleasant, making the experience even more enjoyable. They take the time to explain the menu and ensure you have everything you need. Great option for a traditional Danish lunch!

Google
Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. I ordered the smoked eel and scrambled eggs as a main, followed by the daily special (rhubarb trifle) for dessert. Staff were friendly and restaurant atmosphere was bubbly and cheerful. Great vibe.

Google
We had a good experience trying smørrebrød for the first time at Restaurant Kronborg. However we did not know each person must order drinks to get still water for free, which I guess is expected when you’re in Copenhagen. Quite expensive but can’t really complain as the food and service were good overall.

Google
Traditional Danish restaurant where you can try the famous smørrebrød (open sandwiches), a staple of Danish cuisine. They offer the classics (herring, fish, shrimp), as well as a couple of tasting menus (one pictured here). Excellent quality, great service in a very relaxed ambience.

Google
Delicious smørrebrød, we ordered the shrimps and leverpostej both are scrumptious. The leverpostej in particular is so Danish authentic experience that you just have to try it as a non-Dane. Definitely worth a revisit since they have lots of other in the menu.

Excellent traditional danish food, top class service. Definitely have a Herring dish with a "reasonable" aquavit shot. We had a wonderful evening.

Yelp
Just had a meal here and I thought the food was delicious. I ordered the summer platter that was a four course meal. The herring, lox and fried fish were excellent. The boss ordered meatballs and they were also very flavorful too. The pickled beets and cucumbers were outstanding. They pickled them perfectly and it had the right balance of acidity to them. The hen puff pastry was outstanding. The pastry was flaky and the hen cooked perfectly and the sauce was creamy and filled with flavor. I forgot to take a picture of my pork dish. The skin was extremely crispy and the fat was rendered out so it wasn't greasy. The cheese finale was good. The reason for the four stars is we waited for our last course for over 20 minutes. Everything up to that point for service was spot on. Then my wife thought she saw our waiter walking up the street away from the restaurant. I guess he was done for the day and the service from that point was poor. But the food was fantastic.

Yelp
Warm and kind service. A Danish gentleman who we sat next to told us that we were in a very traditional Danish restaurant and that they were very good. The food really was great. 2 dishes is recommended per person so I ordered 3 for my daughter and myself. We could only finish 1/2 our food because the portions are so generous. A hungrier person could have finished it all.

Yelp
This is for my American people since Europe is all about Trip Advisor and Google. I think this place is popular for smørrebrød. I just asked what was popular and it was the beef smørrebrød. It's basically a raw beef patty that's seared on both sides on a slice of toast with some sides to eat it with. Also got the schnaps and a beer. I'm not sure I quite get what I'm supposed to be tasting here, but maybe it's because it's too traditional and there was a tourism to culture appeal? The meal was about a 3-4/10 and it was pricey as well. I would go to try it once because it's very traditional, but I've had better foods in general.

Yelp
Came here on our last night in Copenhagen and had about $70 worth of DKK to spend. We ordered pickled herring as an appetizer, and then liver pate, pan fried veal liver, roast beef with fried egg, and Danish meatball open-faced sandwiches. I used to think that open-faced sandwiches would be light, but all of these options were super filling (granted, they were very meat heavy). It's a very traditional Danish cuisine restaurant, and all of our expectations were met. I was very happily full after our meal, which couldn't be said for some other places we'd been to.

Yelp
Ahh this was such a wonderful experience. Upscale. White table cloths and wait staff dressed in fine cloths. They make their own schnapps and you have to try it. They'd just finished a strawberry batch when I came in and I am so happy I opted for the "heavier" pour because I was practically licking the glass when I finished it. Fresh strawberry taste, no nasty artificial strawberry flavoring. I had the Danish meatball smørrebrød. They make their own rye bread that's hearty and filled with tasty seeds and grains. The Swedish meatballs paired perfectly with the pickled cabbage and pickles. Such a wonderful tangy and savory combination--you have to try it. I watched others get the more classic herring dishes which also looked great and people seemed to enjoy. You may have to make a reservation as they seemed to be in high demand. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This place was recommended by more than one person to me for authentic, traditional Danish smørrebrød. It's a sit-down place you can relax and enjoy. Good food and dessert. I wouldn't say top-notch. Service was sufficient, not the best... I suppose the waitress was busy with other customers given that it's the holiday time. Me, a single customer, was kind of overlooked... :-) Yes, you can find probably traditional smørrebrød elsewhere and better values, but I still like to sit down with wonderful ambiance. All in all, it's a good experience, not the best experience.

Yelp
I loved this place! Try the dill schnapps and curried herring. I got a few other things as well but those were the two I'd really recommend.

Yelp
I went here today for the traditional Danish Christmas feast. This review is only for the Christmas feast. The restaurant was warm, so layers are a good idea! My group was there for a little over two hours and we joked about needing a trolley to get back to our hotel. This may be the most food I've ever been served at a restaurant. Portions are very generous! There was herring three ways, pan fried plaice, two kinds of salmon, braised duck, liver pâté, pork two ways, two kinds of cheese with compote, and rice pudding. Are you full from just reading? There was a fun surprise with the rice pudding. Beer, wine, and aquavit are available. The service is friendly and prompt. For all the food you get, the feast is an excellent deal. If you want to go to the Christmas feast, make reservations. It was a full house when we were there.

Yelp
Look no further for a traditional danish lunch. I've eaten here in August which consisted of sild (herring) and cod. All of which was fresh and came in huge portions. I just finished a meal here with 7 of my family members for a julebord, or Christmas Menu which consisted of tasting traditional Danish Christmas food for roughly 3 hours. Service is always prompt and friendly and can accommodate English speakers. If you're in CPH and want authentic danish lunch, skip the tourist traps of Nyhavn & make a reservation here.

Yelp
One street off from the famous Stroget shopping street, this restaurant gave a strong traditional vibe. It was surprisingly spacious inside the restaurant and it was packed for lunch on Easter Day. We picked the perfect time to visit! I'm not a huge fan of herring but the way they prepared it at this restaurant got rid of all the unpleasant scents of herring. I could barely tell I was eating herring. If you don't like herring but still want to try this scandinavian tradition, this is your place to be. The traditional danish meatballs tasted just as I expected, perfectly seasoned and not dry. I don't think the food here gave me the wow factor but it is such a cozy family style restaurant to have a hearty traditional danish meal that just warms your soul.

Yelp
The perfect place for a (Christmas) lunch if you want to have good quality Danish food, old school. I was there with work, so we had a fixed menu, which was extended, so we ended up skipping a dish, as we were too full. Anyway the amount of food was extravagant, anyway it was delicious. We started with 3 kinds of pickled herring, 2 kinds of salmon, fried flounder with "remoulade", pate, "medister"sausage, pork roast, duck, pork with apples (the dish we skipped), cheese and ris a la mande (rice pudding)... The quality was good, every thing seemed "home-made" - the waiters were friendly, the decor nice and homey - but the acoustics was bad. The restaurant was full and it was hard to hear what anyone said. But all in all a good Danish Christmas experience.

Yelp
This is a tourist trap. If you don't care so much, the place is cute. In a side street of the city center you will find this "Danish restaurant" that basically only serves open sandwiches (smørrebrød) for both lunch and dinner. They have the traditional flavors like: herring, chicken salad with bacon, potato, Fish fillet and egg. Sandwiches are regular sized but WAY TO EXPENSIVE for what they are. Around 99kr for each, and they are not amazing. In case you don't care for a sit down place I recommend you try the ones in Torvehallerne instead, as they are bigger, fresher and much more delicious.

Yelp
Too expensive. I got a smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, which cost 120 kr. The texture of the eggs seemed a bit too mushy and off in my opinion. I was also surprised that I was charged 36 kr extra for water, even though I requested tap water.

Yelp
We were recommended to come to this restaurant by our hotel staff as they reported it was the best place to get a traditional Danish sandwich for lunch. I do not have anything to compare this to as I have never eaten Danish food. It was okay. I ordered roast beef with pickled cucumbers, fried onions and remoulade. It came with some shaved white stuff on top, not sure what it was and these aforementioned ingredients were all atop of a soggy piece of postage stamp sized bread. My family member ordered the meatballs with red cabbage and pickles. My food was okay. The remoulade was gross but I ate the rest. It is interesting if you want to try Danish food but I do not know what to compare it to. My aunt's meatballs looked very dry as hers did not come with a sauce nor bread. Service was below average. Our waitress seemed bothered when I asked her a couple of questions about the menu and then we never saw her again. We ended up walking inside (we sat outside) to ask for our tab.

Yelp
Was led to Restaurant Kronborg by way of a yelp elite event and have never been so delightfully, overly satisfied by a smørrebrød lunch before in my life. Kronborg is overflowing with the hygge, has excellent quality food, AMAZING dessert, and the waitstaff know what good service means (if you've ever lived and dined anywhere outside of Denmark, you know what I'm talking about here). A fantastic place to learn about how to build your smørrebrød the Danish way, so while I'd obviously love to keep this place hidden for the locals, I think it's a great place to take your visiting friends and family, too.

Yelp
You enter the small room at the bar and you are immediately greeted by the very friendly staff. They were very helpful with recommendations and explained the menu were needed. The food is fresh and everything we had was delicious. Typical danish food, beat digested with a beer or an aquavit. We will come again!

Yelp
This is old Copenhagen to a tee. Located just a block off of Stroget on a small but charming corner. It is a plain restaurant, nothing fancy, but the food and the service is wonderful. Real traditional Danish open faced sandwiches. Huge portions. Although they recommend two or three, two is ample and three far too many. But the food is fresh and delicious. This is a great place to sample herring. I would go back in a minute.

Yelp
Smorrebrod? Yes please. This was my first (and hopefully not last) time having smorrebrod, and it was so good. I got the pickled herring which was just alright, but the pan-fried plaice was amazing! It might be on my list of top 5 foods I've ever eaten in my life; top 10 for sure. The plaice melted in my mouth, and I'm not exaggerating. It was so good, and the sauce that came on top with it was a bit sour and went with the fish so well. The herring paled in comparison, but I think I would still have given this place four stars if I just had the herring. The waitress was pretty friendly too. Highly recommend for smorrebrod! The menu is pretty extensive and they have all kinds of toppings for the smorrebrod. Come!

Yelp
In search for one last smørrebrød meal in Copenhagen, TripAdvisor led us here which was exactly what we wanted. Seated outdoors on a beautiful afternoon in May 2014 on quiet street. Tasty homemade bread basket with spread. -I loved the the Kronborg salmon fish balls (79DKK)- spongy paired with a perfect condiment -We also had the pickled herring (62DKK) and the pan-fried fillet of plaice (89DKK) which were spot on Paired with some beers, a yummy meal indeed.

Yelp
You will not regret eating here. I had lunch here with a friend today and it was AMAZING. The lime créme with salmon was to die for and the danish meatballs were excellent. The aquavit pairings were interesting, as well. I'm sitting at a different danish restaurant now eating open-faced sandwiches. I've had a solid amount to drink and I'm starving so you'd think any food would be amazing but all I feel is disappointment in how it doesn't even come close to comparing to our lunch and Kronborg today. The prices are higher here than at Kronborg, as well!! This is a place I would definitely repeat on a different Copenhagen trip. GO HERE.

Yelp
Fantastic food! The waitress has been great, I told her I wanted to try danish food and she has suggested the best dishes! Services is great and food is fantastic! I highly recommend this place. Please order some herring as starter, you will love it!

Yelp
What a wonderful little place! We came late (2:00pm) and the restaurant was packed. The menu items were like tapas; small and delicious! I had fish with shrimp, my wife had shrimp and eggs, and we shared a cheese with fruit spread. I HIGHLY recommend this place, and next time I'll make a reservation for dinner!

Yelp
Second visit, just as good as the first time. I love this place and will return again. I got the Christmas Feast - everything was absolutely delicious! Service was excellent. This is one of my "go to" restaurants.

Yelp
I went there for lunch on a slow Friday @ 1pm, as part of a group of 5. The quality of the food was decent, however it took a really long time for them to prepare our food; from coming in and up until we had our single dishes served we had to wait approximately some 55 minutes. After having been seated the service was very inattentive, and we proactively had to ask for extra beverages, with the waiter even leaving mid-order at one point in time. The amount of food on our plates was appropriate for a light lunch, however be prepared to order additional dishes in case you have a healthy appetite.

Yelp
I had dinner with a group more specifically Julefrokost I have to say I am not an expert on Danish Christmas food but it is the second time so I have something to compare to. It was very traditional the place is lovely cozy and full of candles with an awesome location right in the center you can visit the Christmas market and then go have Julefrokost. They have all different kind of snaps very good and many homemade. We started with fish so curry sild, fried herring and Christmas herring, followed by smoked salmon, fresh salmon and breaded white fish with remoulade. That was just the start then it was followed by thick bacon Danish style, duck, root beat, flæskesteg, Pate, folclores by a plate og cheese fig mermelade and grapes and of course ris a la amande and the winner that found the almond got a very cool gift. So definitely will recommend it to do with friends it is a lot of fun! It was a very good price for all of what we got.

Yelp
Had a very good, quick, open-faced (danish-style) burger for lunch here. The price seemed very reasonable, based on my other experiences eating around Copenhagen.

Yelp
Nice traditional smørrebrod restaurant with delicious food. A bit on the pricy though. Try the open face sandwich with Greenland shrimps.

Sabrina D.

Yelp
Best meal of our trip here! We stopped in for a late lunch and tried several of the open-faced sandwiches including the salted herring, the salmon with cheese, the meatball and the baked Camembert. They were delicious! Honestly, we didn't expect to like them so much but they we're great. All of the ingredient were very fresh. The service was also very friendly and they have English menus.

Joe H.

Yelp
Our open sandwiches were very good. Our server was nice with our daughter and grown-ups, too. Great casual service and food.

Yelp
it is situated at a side alley, quite easy to find if you have a gps. very disappointed with their service. it is overrated and overpriced.
