Was recommended by our tour guide. The onion soup was lukewarm and watery; ordered the roast pork, their chef's specials, was overcooked, dry and salty. Other dishes were also average. Most other tables had seafood like mussels, clams, and oysters; they were enjoying it. Maybe we ordered the wrong food.

This was easily the best place we ate in Bayeux. It's near the cathedral in the center of town, and is larger than it looks from the outside. It's a comfortable atmosphere and the service was good. The food was traditional French cuisine, and it was fantastic. I had the beef bourguignon that was on the specials menu the night we were there, and it was so good. I ate every bit of that meal and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Google
Great food and atmosphere. Larger than it appears from the street as there is an upstairs. Our server spoke fluent English and French. Food was excellent. I had skate fish in a cream sauce with mashed potatoes. Delicious, just wished for a slightly larger portion of fish.

Google
Don't believe on 4.1 review, it's clearly a 4.8, 4.9 restaurant! The food is honest, delicious, the price is good! I definitely recommend this place!!! Homemade Normandy delicious food. Try it!

Google
Hidden gem! Both the food and atmosphere was fantastic. I felt like we were eating in someone’s home. We ordered boeuf bourguignon and just loved it. Everything tasted homemade. It was our first authentic French meal since we were in France. I highly recommend it!

Google
Just picked this restaurant randomly in Bayeux and it turned to be the best decision . The food was delicious and service was prompt ! Every dish was delightful ! Keep it up!

Very nice place and staff. Lots of sauce and small portions sometimes. Very well located near the cathedral

Went in for a meal 20.30 hours lovely little old French restaurant if you're going on a Friday or Saturday night then I would recommend booking as it gets full, had a good time and a lovely meal, staff were very good and freindly, even though we didn't understand their French, or they our English we both made an effort to order our meal it's very nr to the cathedral on the back street, well worth a visit

Yelp
We loved this corner spot near the unmissable massive chapel, middle of Bayeux. We came in a side door just wandering thru but ended up on the outdoor patio. There is a large menu but also has daily specials. Food was delish, wine was excellent and oh so reasonably priced here!

Yelp
True to the word of other Yelpers this place is fantastic!! It opens at 19:00 hours or 7pm. Most restaurants in the area open at that time, for table service. We followed the lead from other Yelpers that this place was excellent and it is! The waitress understood a little English and was helpful. The Demi-Sec cider Ferme de la Sapiniere was excellent, dry but with a sweet twist. My beer, on draft, was excellent too! I chose the 29Euro version with the cod and it was excellent. My friend chose the 17E ? Version, with au gratin with three kinds of cheese, potatoes and bacon was excellent as well. Reservations are suggested as this place fills up quickly. You may risk your Party not getting a seat. Ours looked directly outside at the Cathedral, and if you haven't visited there, it is amazing. Our meals were excellent and we will be back next time in town.

Yelp
The wait is slow, but the food is ok. I recommend ordering fresh seafood such as shrimp, mussels, or oysters since the local produce ensures high-quality seafood. As for other courses, they lacked the flavor and attention to detail of nearby diners. The cod was fresh, although it had little to no taste. I would avoid ordering beef because it was too overcooked to cut, let alone eat.

Yelp
Delicious! We had the tuna tartare and the charcuterie plate fondue style with melted Camembert. Loved it so much that we went back the next day and each got the Menu de Moment, and between the two of us got all the options. Delicious! Their wine was the best we had in town. They are a busy restaurant and their servers work very hard, but there are a lot of mouths to feed. Remember to note the number on the rock at your table. That number is... wait for it... your table number. When you're done eating, go up to the cashier to pay.

Yelp
This cafe was fantastic. The staff were so friendly- at least 2/3 of them spoke English, and very well! The food was oh so very good, even for a picky American. We both had the specials of the day and were not disappointed! They really know their pig! The prices were very reasonable for the area as well. I see others on here saying the staff were rude or they felt ignored- it's important to remember that in France the wait staff don't coddle patrons the way they do in the states. This is true across the country. The staff come for your order, they bring your food, and after that you're on your own unless you flag them down for help. Don't expect them to be checking on you every five minutes like in the states. I can't say enough about this restaurant. It was just what we needed on the last day of our Honeymoon in France. We are so grateful.

Yelp
The staff was super friendly and were so accommodating. They could see our kids were tired and hungry so they brought over some water, hot/fresh bread, and butter. I had some great food, but honestly can't remember much of it since I kept eating most of my husbands food. He ordered a Camembert cheese pre-fix menu. It was really good and the flavors in the cheese were really good. I had the pork pre-fix menu and it was also very good, but the cheese was the best. The kids had some pasta for dinner with the fresh bread. They enjoyed it. The local ciders on the menu were really good too!

Yelp
This was an excellent use of my money and time on one of the evenings I had free time on my own. I was on day two of experiencing insomnia so when the server acknowledged my English, as it was her first language too, I was relieved and relaxed knowing that my experience was going to be easy to communicate through. The menu offers four different menu specials at incredible prices. I chose the three course dinner option for somewhere around 30€. Additionally I enjoyed a half bottle of white for 11€. I was very pleased with the ability to enjoy the maximum dining experience without spending very much. The atmosphere was very cozy and the windows overlooked the square right in front of the cathedral so it's also an excellent spot for people watching. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bayeux.

Yelp
First off, I haven't had a bad meal in France...ever! This country knows how to season food to perfection, plate it beautifully, and portion it just right. There's always room for dessert. Well, most the time. Anyways, in Bayeux there's this darling restaurant we've eaten at twice when visiting. There's dining space on the main floor as well as upstairs. During our last visit, I ordered the scallops dish and it was gorgeous. You almost don't want to eat the food because it's artwork. But then you're hungry and you know it's gonna be good so you dive in without remorse. Well that's exactly what I did. Such a delicious dish. When in Bayeux, eat here! Looking forward to my return to this wonderful city and enjoying another sit down meal at L'Assiette Normande.

Yelp
Food was ok. Ambience was pleasant. But service was poor. We waited a very long time for our food, and the server was completely unhelpful.

Yelp
Our group went here for lunch our last day in Bayeux. The good first. The food was good. It was not the best meal we had in Bayeux, but good. I had the fish special. My wife had a salad with diced sausage on it. Others ordered the onion soup. The soup was different in that it comes with the bread and cheese that's normally baked on top of the soup, on the side and you construct it yourself. It was different, and all agreed they would not order it again. Now the bad. The service was horrible. Our server was a older woman. It was lunch time and when we got to the restaurant it did not appear to be very busy. We were seated in a side room that had approximately six or seven tables. We were the only ones in this room when we arrived. No one in our party spoke French. When we asked our hostess if she spoke English she abruptly replied "No English!" We placed our orders as best we could. Google translate was a lot of help in that regard. After our order was placed other people were being seated in the room with us. All of them were French. One was a single person, another was a party of two and a larger party of nine were also seated. All of their orders were placed after we had been seated and after our orders had been taken. Most in our party had ordered from the fixed price menu. Our starters came. And then we waited and waited and waited. Meanwhile all of the other patrons who were seated and ordered after us received their starters, their main course and their desserts. This included the party of nine people. I am by nature a very patient person. I inquired to our hostess about the delay in our dishes and tried to communicate that we needed to catch our train. This obviously did not make her happy and she snapped at us in French about how busy they were and that we needed to be patient. This exchange upset most in our group. My wife did not even want to eat her main course once it came. She just wanted to leave the restaurant. Eventually our main courses arrived. We hastily ate what we could. We asked for the check and did not want to wait for the dessert course, which was included in the price. Our hostess definitely gave off the air of disliking Americans very much. The irony was not lost on us, in that we were in Bayeux for the 75th anniversary of the D day invasion celebrations. It was an unfortunate way to spend our last few hours in Bayeux. Fortunately there were plenty of other establishments that could not have been more lovely to eat at.

Yelp
This quaint little restaurant could be wonderful, it is warm and inviting and beautifully located at the foot of Bayeux Cathedral ..... But, it is not. The food is mediocre (although the desert passed for ok). Personally I accept, when traveling, every meal will not be always be excellent or great, but even with keeping this fact in mind, I would not recommend this one and I will not choose it again. The wait staff is terrible, that is the only way I can put it. Inattentive, unprofessional and at moments verging on rude. There are many other restaurants in beautiful Bayeux to choose from.

Yelp
Superb experience. Another example of the gracious kindness of the people of Normandy. I found the food very good and very, very reasonable. The portions are not huge but with prices like these, feel free to get an appetizer and wash everything down with plenty of good cider and wine. Full of locals, all of whom seem to get the baked Camembert, it fills up fast for lunch and dinner between which they close. The servers can get a little busy. Your best bet is to make a reservation, but they will try their best for you. A little French always helps but they know enough French restaurant English to communicate.

Yelp
We were seated promptly and the waitress noticed our slip of paper from the recommendation by our hotel, and promptly brought over 4 complimentary glasses of kir. Very good! From there service deteriorated quite a bit. I ordered the steak dinner. I gave my husband half of my steak to try. He said it was awful. Mine was tasty enough, but had lots of fat and tough areas to cut off. The bread and salad was good. I had a little chocolate cake for dessert. Everyone else thought their meal was great. We waited a long time for water and wine refills, and for our checks. One of our guest's visa credit cards was declined so he used his American Express, but the charge still shows as pending on his Visa, casting a hassle and damper on his trip although I'm sure it will work out especially since he didn't sign the Vjsa bill.

Yelp
Cute cafe. Dining solo, I ended up at a table by the door with a view of the church. I ordered the trio: french onion soup was delicious, steak with red wine sauce was just okay, and the apple tart was the star of the meal. There was a little confusion when the non-english speaking waitress cleared my dinner plate... I thought I said no to coffee and she thought I said no to dessert. Easy enough to straighten out, I just had to wait a bit longer. Overall, it was a decent quality for the reasonable price.

Yelp
Our favorite meal in Bayeux! 6 of us dined on September 21st and had such a wonderful meal, we returned the next night! Sat outside in the courtyard, which is lovely and the service and food were wonderful! Definitely would dine here again if we come back to Bayeux.

Tricia O.

Yelp
Excellent meal our first night in Bayeux. The steak with the camembert sauce was excellent. The cut of steak could have been a touch better. The desserts were excellent, both the caramel parfait and the chocolate cake. The waitstaff was attentive but not intrusive. A nice evening.

K M.

Yelp
Shit food, shit service, and shit wine. Seriously the worst meal experience we've had after touring around the country for three weeks. The waitresses could not care less and it was a truly painful experience. The steak was beyond tough and inedible, french fries soggy, wine tasted like vinegar and neither waitress could even pretend to give a shit. Wasted $100 and two hours of our time because she would not bring the check after we asked numerous times. Oh and the desert sucked as well. The highlight of the night was when my GF got up and tracked down the waitress so we could pay the bill and leave. There are many other great restaurants in town and I suggest you avoid this place at all cost.

Yelp
We arrived around 7p with 14. They quickly put tables together and sat us right away. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. Halfway through dinner we turned around and noticed the place was packed. Had no idea people ate this late as it was still full at 9p when we left! If the season is right and you're able, definetly sit outside for a true European feel!

Mike M.

Yelp
Horribly understaffed with a large party going on upstairs. People were walking out due to being ignored. Very inattentive and forgetful waiter. We asked him for a shaker of salt three times and it never came. Everything took forever. The food was decent and expensive.

Meg K.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely dinner here. They opened a table for us even though it was near closing time. I had the fish and salad of the day, which was good. But the real star was my husband's steak and potatoes entree. The presentation was artistic and the flavors were robust. Our server was very efficient and personable. A favorite place that we dined on our trip.

darren l.

Yelp
The 3.5 star average rating is accurate. Decent prix fix should work for most visitors, but nothing special. Very close to the Cathedral.

Kate R.

Yelp
Very good restaurant! After being overwhelmed by the many American tourists in this part of France, my husband and I sought out something a bit more authentic. This place was perfect. The meal was delicious, the atmosphere quiet and traditional. Affordable as well.

Sandy L.

Yelp
Best value in terms of price vs. food. Portions are not small, nicely presented and taste good. Service is lacking and slow but this is common in restaurants there. We both have 5 course dinner. Mine had seafood plate, duck fillet, apple sorbet, crispy camembert and dessert, EUR$ 17 per person. What a deal!

Tom H.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed the two course lunch. Very reasonable at E13.5. Had the carpaccio beef. Very good!

Wynn W.

Yelp
Charming , rustic interior. Competent kitchen. Very busy but staff did good job for us. We did see large party leave without eating, though.

G D.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by my bed and breakfast. Why, I am not sure. The service was EXTREMELY slow and poor. The French onion soup was the worst I was ever served! The chicken entree' was edible, but nothing to write home about. The apple pie dessert was scorched. I would never go back to this restaurant, nor would I recommend it to anyone. I regret taking the recommendation to eat there.

Maritza M.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 3 by the recommendation of someone who lives in Bayeux. We arrived and were seated in an area on the second floor that looked like it was used for storage. We politely asked to be moved to another table and the hostess got very angry and told us there were no other tables available although none of the vacant tables had a "reserved" sign on them as our table had. We decided to leave and we're VERY happy with our alternative restaurant selection, Le Petite Normand, just around the corner. There are too many good restaurant selections in Bayeux to start off on such a bad note.

John C.

Yelp
Here for dinner in early October, 2012. Outstanding dinner. Excellent onion soup appetizer and outstanding fish specials. Highly recommend. Small and cozy but comfortable. Great service.

Peter F.

Yelp
Best service we had in our time in Bayeux. Quiet and cozy atmosphere. Staff hustled but managed everyone well. Great location just a few yards away from the cathedral in the medieval part of the city. I read through the other reviews and saw several people complaining of slow service. None of our dining experiences in France were lightening fast. The culture is to sit and enjoy a meal and relax. If you are looking for faster service I believe there is a McDonald's a few miles away in Caen. Relax, enjoy and sip some Calvados.

S P.

Yelp
Very rude people here - stay away! We patiently waited outside of the restaurant for it to open at 7pm (we did not have time to make a reservation). At 6:59 a group of 4 French speakers pushed forward and into the restaurant saying that it was open without a glance at us or apology. They were immediately seated (they did not have a reservation either). We were then seated next in a back room next to their table. In the next 30 minutes, while we waited they ordered and received drinks, while the waitress passed us by once without a glance or a word to us. We decided to leave rather than continue to suffer this rude behavior (the first we have encountered in our two visits to France in the last 11 years). We ended up at Le Moulin de la Galette and had a much better dinner. Don't waste your precious time at L'Assiette.

Paul B.

Yelp
This is France. One should not get a meal as bad as this one. It must be the "touristique" clientele that let's them get away with it, they know your not coming back. We suffered slow service and bad food. The entrecote was tough and le poisson du jour mauvais. If you want donkey meat ici c'est le place. I'd call it bad even compared to English standards! Get a reservation and go to Le Pommier down the street instead.

Neil S.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch as part of a DDay beach tour. I had the steak with camember sauce. Very good! portion size was perfect for lunch. Definitely worth the visit if visiting bayeux

William P.

Yelp
Great little restaurant! The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent and at a decent price. All 4 of us, including 2 teenagers, enjoyed our meals. Definitely our best meal in Bayeux.

Janine F.

Yelp
Nice small cosy restaurant with a decent traditional French menu for a good price. Also a nice menu for kids (something different than the traditional fries and steak hachée)

Margaret P.

Yelp
We came here last night as part of a Road Scholars trip. Serving 27 people who arrived all at once is a challenge to any restaurant and I can report that the service was extremely good and the food really, really good. First course was a salad with a Camenbert tart on top. Yummy. Main course was a ham steak a la Normande - a somewhat creamy sauce that may have had a splash of Calvados or cider. The dessert course was a sampler of 4 or 5 beautiful desserts. I thought, "Oh, I'll just pick." Yupp, picked my way to a clean plate. Each was better than the last. I'd go back in a minute to have the Coquilles San Jacques, which was posted aas last night's special. We're two weeks into scallop season here in Normandie. I highly recommend.

Julia H.

Yelp
During three weeks in France, Nice, Arles, Leon, Paris, and Normandy, we met with only friendly, welcoming French people. Until we ate lunch in the Assiette Normande. There our French waitress displayed the arrogant snottiness that one sometimes reads/hears about the French. She archly rattled off the menu choices as quickly as possible, refused to translate, and even scolded one of our group for pronouncing "crumble" in the English, rather than the French, way. Two of our group spoke some passable French, but this waitress seemed to have an axe to grind about language. She was young and very brash; maybe good help is hard to find. The food was okay, but it was not of the quality we found at small restaurants in Paris. I see others have posted here they they would advise going to a
