Stopped by on a walk through town at about 7pm, our first night in France after travelling from Melbourne, Australia.
We sat down on one of 5 outside tables, only one of the others had people there.
The ladies greeted us with a menu and we said we would just like a 'verre de vin' ... this is where the confusion ensued. We were served our wine and relaxed in the afternoon sun. Shortly afterwards one of the ladies working at the place came to take a food order. We advised we were only seated for a drink. To which she said, 'no bar only restaurant'. The servere was surprised and threw the menu onto another and left, visibly angry.
Not wanting to offend we hurridy finished our drinks, and went inside to apologise for the confusion, no less than three times in french and English. We paid and left feeling like horrible humans.
The funny thing is, if they were nicer we would have stayed for dinner. , We ended up walking to another place to eat because we were made to feel so horrible.
