We enjoyed a midday lunch after hours of exploring Avignon, on their lovely outdoor terrace in a square next to a church. Many others clearly had the same idea, as the place was rather packed, but we did manage to get a table for ourselves! We'd eaten so many multicourse meals, we wanted to eat a bit lighter today, so my husband got a plat for himself (a wonderful stew, may have been the plat du jour) - there's no menu online so I'm not exactly sure what, but it was gorgeous. I got a big mixed plate of provencal specialities that I'll never be able to recall in full! It was a large salad plate with sliced meat, a crock of warm cheese with various herbs and things, a big melon slice, mushrooms, bacon wrapped around creamy brie, a curry wrap, various bruschettas slathered in sauces (I remember a flavorful tomato sauce and a very unique and beautiful fennel/anchovy sauce), and a cold carrot/orange soup of sorts in the middle.... there was probably more! But it all went wonderfully with the French bread, used the bounty of local produce, and apparently represented food typical of the region, which is what I really wanted to try. It was a little pricey, but a great way to get a lot of fresh food with bright flavors, instead of the usual heavy French fare.
