Restaurant l'Inattendu

Cute little restaurant in the center of Marseille. We went there for dinner without a reservation and were lucky enough to find a table. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They speak English and also has an English menu. We had the vegetarian soup and the fish of the day. Both were excellent. Soup was very tasty and came in a very big portion. The star of the fish dish was the turnip purée (from navet blanc). They were kind enough to let us order a half ration of the cheese plate, although it was not on the menu. The price could be a little cheaper, but still, the quality was good enough. Could definitely go back.

We had a bouillabaisse for two people. The fish inside doesn’t feel fresh. Feel it has been iced prior. We have tasted much better in other places. Doesn’t reflect the 4.6 rating. We couldn’t finish the thing and left only after an hour. It’s at a quiet corner and next to the stairs a relatively small shop compare to those around.

The food is average. Bouillabaisse tasted like a canned soup from any supermarket. Out of 4 mussels in the soup, 1 was uncooked/unopened — very strange for a soup which costs 41eur per portion. A taste of a beef tartar was overtaken by the sauce (which was tasty, but no meat taste at all). The octopus salad with lentils was tasty. Good and reasonably priced wine card. Really overpriced for what is served. Not recommended

Tucked away off the beaten path, this is a gem of a place. We got the fish of the day which was cooked incredibly well and flavorful with perfectly cooked vegetables, as well as the mixed salad. Trivially but of note: This is the only restaurant we’ve been to so far that has given us pitchers of ice cold water with continuous refills which offered us much appreciated respite in the hot weather. Wonderful vibes and service. Would definitely recommend!

Extremely overpriced, 41€ bouillabaisse NOT WORTH IT. Fish with bones, chewy and the taste is just not good. Risotto was fine, but served cold!

Bouillabaisse is a must at this place (kind enough to add a plus amount to the one dish to make it larger and for 2. Service was good, place is very popular better if you get there early.

Because of the small menu, I was a little hesitant about going here. Although the prices are a bit on the steeper side for what you get, everything we had was of great quality. Everything we had was delicious. Service was amazing—especially with all the help from Julie. Did notice a lot of dust on the light fixtures, but that can easily be fixed. We would love to come here again!

Great food and service. The waitress is very patient with us answering all kinds of questions. Highly recommended.
