This modern Scandinavian restaurant is a true gem for lovers of Nordic cuisine. During my lunch, I was particularly impressed by their smørrebrød with curried herring—an absolute delight, perfectly balanced in sweetness, acidity, and spices. Every dish reflects a strong commitment to freshness and quality, presented with elegance and refinement. The service was both professional and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. The restaurant’s ambiance is chic and sophisticated, and the Royal Copenhagen tableware adds an extra touch of authenticity and elegance. A place I highly recommend—and one I will definitely return to!

Hands down the world’s best “smørrebrød/frokost-restaurant (open-faced sandwiches/lunch). Service is impeccable and the smørrebrød is just at a different level.

While browsing the Michelin app, I came across this restaurant near my location open for lunch. My mom and I popped in on our way back from The Little Mermaid to our hotel, and this restaurant fit the bill. I'd like to clarify and say that this restaurant was not a Michelin Star restaurant; it is on the list as a more affordable option with nonetheless very good food. When we walked in, we were immediately surprised by the clientele. The restaurant appeared to be a business center, with most of the tables surrounded by men and women in suits. But, we nonetheless found a table and were seated promptly. We both ordered the tasting menu, which was a very good choice. Every single course we ate shattered the stereotype of Danish food; it was tasty, fresh, and had great presentation. However, I did not like the bacon + mushroom side for the tarteletter as much because it was a little heavy. It was still good, but the salty bacon accentuated the heaviness, so we were unable to finish it. I'd definitely recommend a visit for lunch or dinner; or any other time, for that matter. Our servers were very kind and attentive, and empty dishes disappeared quickly.

As non-Danes, this place was so much fun to go to and sample some traditional smørrebrød! Everyone was so warm and welcoming and the food was amazing.

The smørrebrød and herring were so fantastic that we returned during one weekend’s stay. Everything was delectable and the service delightful. My mother’s herring was never so good, and she certainly didn’t serve it with an aquavit pairing

An incredible dining experience at Restaurant Møntergade! Every flavour was spot on from the first bite of perfectly crafted Smørrebrød to the last spoonful of classic Danish Æblekage. Authentic, delicious, and beautifully presented — highly recommend!

Had the daily specials. Venison with chanterelle mushrooms was exceptional! Scallops starter was great. Shrimp with waffles was good. Strawberry dessert was wonderful. Service was warm, attentive and professional. Not cheap but worth it.

Traditional, authentic Danish food and even better service! I decided to try the classic smørrebrød. I didn’t have a reservation, but it was lunchtime, and a few spots were still available. I still recommend making a reservation, though. They offered me a seat outside, which was great. The egg on the curry herring smørrebrød was fantastic, and the herring itself was incredibly fresh and flavorful. I was even more impressed with the fried plaice with shrimps. The shrimps were delicious, and the plaice was perfectly cooked. This place is known for offering authentic food, and the quality truly lives up to its reputation. It might be a bit pricey, and while I was recommended to order two smørrebrød (the bread with toppings), I think one would have been enough. You get free fresh water, and the service was excellent.
