BOTTOM LINE: Props for its creativity.
Although it's located right on Rue Saint-Jean, it's easy to miss it given it's somewhat obscured shop front. It definitely has a Jamaican/420-friendly vibe. The service was good, with the chef even bringing out some of the dishes. With a rotating menu of about every 2-weeks, and with so many local reviews lauding the chefs' inventive takes on tried-and-true dishes, I was eager to try it. And for the most part, it was fantastic even if some dishes didn't entirely stick the landing.
The highlight was the BOB MARLEY OG, which was their take on jerk chicken (prepared via sous vide no less). It had a good amount of spiciness to it and balanced out by generous coconut shavings and pineapple. Highly recommended.
Next, their OCEAN VIEW seafood salad was freshly made with mussels, shrimps, veggies, and topped off with some foam. There was also a foundation of pureed peas, which I felt detracted from the other delicate flavours.
My feelings toward their KRAKEN were a bit of a mixed bag. I felt the octopus was done well, and the egg yolk was a nice addition; however, I wasn't a fan of dousing it in BBQ sauce. Perhaps it was a combination of flavours I wasn't typically used to, but I felt the BBQ sauce overpowered the flavour of the octopus.
Finally, I was probably most disappointed with their SPIDER BITES, which was a pork dish served in lobster-bisque. It was an odd combination of flavours, and for the most part, I could barely taste the lobster bisque. The texture of the pork also felt a bit mushy to me.
Overall, I felt that this particular meal was probably closer to a 3-stars; however, I appreciate their willingness to take risks and be creative with their dishes, and that counts for a lot in my book.
