Reviewing the cooking class not the restaurant! On Sunday, we embarked on the "CHINA KÜCHE Sichuan plus" cooking course at Wrenkh Kochsalon promising an immersive dive into authentic Chinese flavors. The evening began with a warm welcome, complemented by a selection of complimentary drinks—wine, beer, fruit juices, prosecco, and water—setting a convivial tone as participants introduced themselves. Our culinary guide for the evening was Chef Andi, a remarkable chef of Chinese-Austrian descent. His deep knowledge and passion for Sichuan cuisine were evident as he attentively introduced us to common ingredients, shared sourcing tips within Vienna, and even recommended local Sichuan restaurants. His approachable demeanor made the complex art of Sichuan cooking accessible and enjoyable. The hands-on experience included crafting a variety of traditional dishes: Baozi: We prepared the dough from scratch and mastered the technique of steaming these fluffy buns to perfection. Dan-Dan Noodles: Learning to make these iconic noodles by hand was both challenging and rewarding, resulting in a dish rich in flavor and texture. Mapo Tofu: This classic dish allowed us to balance the bold flavors characteristic of Sichuan cuisine. Beef Velveting: Chef Andi introduced us to the Chinese technique of velveting, ensuring the beef was tender and succulent. Smashed Cucumber Salad: A refreshing side that highlighted the importance of texture and simplicity. Steamed Amur Carp: We learned the delicate process of steaming fish, preserving its natural flavors. Mantou with Homemade Vanilla Sauce: This dessert provided a sweet conclusion to our culinary journey. Additionally, Chef Andi demonstrated the art of making Sichuan chili oil, a staple that adds depth and heat to many dishes. The Wrenkh Kochsalon itself offers a welcoming atmosphere and the course was structured to be both educational and enjoyable, fostering a sense of community among participants. In conclusion, the "CHINA KÜCHE Sichuan plus" course at Wrenkh Kochsalon is a must-try for anyone interested in authentic Chinese cuisine. Chef Andi's expertise and personable approach made the evening both educational and memorable, leaving us with new skills and a deeper appreciation for Sichuan flavours. Thanks again Andi!

A nice restaurant in the city center, mostly vegetarian with a couple of vegan options. Friendly staff. They have a seasonal menu they rotate every 3 or so months

We had a delightful evening at Restaurant Wrenkh, combining dinner with a fun and interactive cooking course. The experience was truly enjoyable as we prepared several delicious dishes, including Bohemian Pancakes, Herb-Wrapped Char, Salmon in Parchment Paper, Other Fish Dishes, Sichuan Oil, Dalmatian Potato Salad, Pasta Puttanesca, Roasted Leg of Lamb, and Mushroom Schnitzel. The highlights for me were the salmon with Sichuan oil and the Pasta Puttanesca, which were both exceptional in flavor. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall charm of the evening. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique dining and cooking experience in a lovely setting!

Google
This is my all time vegetarian restaurant in Vienna. I have been coming here for over 15 years. Their meals as well as their cook courses are exceptional! I can especially recommend the Glückssalat. Never in this time the food was below delicious. Price performance 10/10.

Google
Everything is vegetarian, there are also vegan options. The service and overall setting are great and cosy. The ginger and pumpkin souo was delicate, and the soup of the day (minestrone) was very tasty, both are recommend! For the mains we took the mushroom schnitzel and the japchae, both were OK but not more than that, we expected a bit more. Overall we had a good experience.

Google
Warm atmosphere and excellent service We had a wonderful experience at Wrenkh Wiener Kochsalon. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and efficient, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The service was smooth and professional, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and inviting. You can tell they care about both the food and the guests. A great place to enjoy a relaxed and well-prepared meal in Vienna. We would definitely return on our next visit.

Google
Dinner was excellent. We were short on time and the server made sure we made it to our concert. I had the pumpkin soup and the mushroom schnitzel. Loved the schnitzel with aioli sauce. The others at the table enjoyed their dishes: kasespatzl, soup of the day, fake steak, and the glass noodles. The cauliflower was amazing. Clever and creative plant based dishes. We would go back if we were still in Vienna.

Yelp
This is now the third time reviewing Wrenkh and I'm still a huge fan! They've certainly done an upgrade to the interior since my last visit 8 years ago and it does feel very posh now. At first I was worried that the exclusive feel of it all might've come at a detriment to the food, but on the contrary: I loved it! On my last visit, I noticed that they'd introduced meat options, but now they've gone completely vegetarian again and I think that's been a great move. The service was also great and overall I just had a fantastic dinner here! I'll hopefully be back in less than 8 years again ;-)

Yelp
Great service, great ambiance, great food. What else do you want? We tried their Tapenade, a olive spread with roasted veggies, the tandoori cauliflower, which was an epiphany and a burst of flavor. For mains, we had the "blood sausage" which was absolutely amazing, the Käsespätzle with pumpkin was very, very good, the puttanesca and salt lemon. Perfection for all. The best was dessert. We shared the poppyseed noodles with butter honey. I am still dreaming of it, it was that good. I can't wait to dine here again. Everything was perfect.

Yelp
Modern, clean, and relaxing compared to the busy street cafes. Took my family here, including my father-in-law who loves burgers and steaks. He loved the potatoe hash dish and cleaned his plate! We enjoyed the cauliflower and the tapenade immensely. Thumbs up all around from my crew!

Yelp
Outstanding service and dining experience! We enjoyed two great dishes paired with local wine - all suggested by our server.

Yelp
Great vegan and vegetarian options. Food was tasty and atmosphere was chill. Staff was very accommodating even though we arrived just before closing time

Yelp
Cool outdoor seating in a quiet residential neighborhood. Great service and quite enjoyed the food. Salad with crispy polenta was excellent as was the vegan cream of mushroom soup. Tapenade was also top notch. Nice local wine selection. Worth the stop if you are vegetarian or pescatarian

Natalie L.

Yelp
We went here because both my daughters are vegetarian and there were many options for them on the menu. We fought over the cauliflower appetizer as it was so good. Everything was excellent though. We appreciated that the menu included a mushroom schnitzel so the girls could sample this take on the local cuisine. Service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The Stygian styrian? salad, can't recall the spelling, sooo good though. Tofu was perfect, flavors were unique, not even sure what the greens were but they had a slight bitter taste that I loved. It was a very filling salad and I usually don't get salads but when you're eating gelato twice a day on vacation, you gotta throw something healthy in there. The beer on tap, their beer, was delicious! I'm not a huge light beer fan so drinking has been low on my list. But the one I ordered had a fruity taste and much more like an IPA, the name is slipping my mind but it was the second beer on tap!

Yelp
Overdosed on Austrian cuisine the past few days, so I decided to try this place. What a GREAT choice that was. I got the ginger and sweet potatoe soup to start, very creamy and rich. I got the steak salad for my main and was BLOWN away. Steak was cooked to perfection, and the balsamic dressing was light but tasteful. One of the best salads I've ever had!

Yelp
A vegetable focused bistro with several meat options sounded like a good bet for us. We made a booking online and were able to sit just inside the big open doors, so it was as good as being outside, without having to worry about the threat of rain. There were lots of people enjoying drinks outside on the terrace. On a Tuesday evening it wasn't packed, although lots of people came in for drinks after work. Service was friendly and they switched to English after a garbled attempt to say hello and order some wine in German. I was pleased they have a menu with a page full of spritzes, and got one with white wine, Campari, something orange and another mystery ingredient. Refreshing and not at all too sweet (although there were sweeter things if that's your preference.) We shared two starters and two mains and could barely finish, very large portions. Starters from the seasonal menu were both very good, with asparagus soup and assorted pickled veggies a nice fresh start. Mains were very hearty- got the mushroom ragout and the potato cake thing, and both were very tasty. Presentation could have been slightly better (the potato was served with a large side of pretty generic steamed veggies, I would have preferred a smaller number of brightly coloured things, maybe a pickled carrot or radish? Didn't need slightly pale courgette and broccoli). Overall a nice experience, very nice space, and good food, well worth a visit.

Yelp
It was our first dinner in Vienna on the new year's day. We found the restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We ordered 2 glasses of wine(white/ red), a small salad, a dish of char and a lentil stew served with starch. They were all fine, but not very much impressive. Service was good with friendly English speaking waiters. The atmosphere is great for a romantic dinner for couples.

Yelp
So... you open your fridge... and aside from bread, milk, and Tabasco sauce, there is nothing there. You don't feel like going grocery shopping, and listing all the categories of food you can think of you realize you are sick of everything. If this sounds like your case, this is the place for you. What you just read is exactly what happened to me, I went here, and left very happy. This place will keep vegetarians (and I think Vegans) happy, while also pleasing those who eat meat. Their menu is definitely diverse in the sense that they have soups, salads, Asian, Austrian, and so on. When you look at the menu, the next thing you will see is that the prices are rather high. That tends of inevitably come with locations such as this, that serve natural, more healthy food. Don't let these two things deter you from coming here... Portions are large, and flavors are on point! I had ordered the sweet potato and ginger soup, and a small lucky salad. I get the soup, and say "this is a large bowl of soup!" Soup looks uninteresting, but it is neither stuffed with ingredients, nor is it just a salty flavored broth. It is a very simple, pleasant, stomach warming appetizer. The consistency was excellent, there were tiny bits of sweet potato in the soup, fresh, not glassy as potato becomes in a soup after a day. Ginger added its own dimension of sweetness. Suffice it to say, sweet potato + ginger = awesome! This soup is a perfect appetizer. Because of its simplicity, I would not order it as a main course... however, it does exactly what the definition of "appetizer" is: food before the main course intended to stimulate the appetite. My appetite needed that stimulation for the salad. Even the small salad was a big plate of salad! This one definitely ranks as on the better salads I had had in my life. The leaves in it were crispy, and finally, I found a place that cuts them appropriately, rather than throwing leaves with dressing and requiring you to finish preparing it by shopping (or rather cutting) them. Rapeseed oil was an excellent dressing. I have eaten salads with olive oil, and sunflower oil, but never with rapeseed. It definitely works without overpowering t the flavors of the other ingredients. Buckwheat was cooked perfectly. Since I occasionally have buckwheat at home, I know a little bit about its preparation. Not only was it cooked perfectly, but it worked excellently in the salad, adding a whole 'nother dimension of flavor. Finally, the grilled tofu... I saw these little brown cubes and thought "ooh, croutons" I put one in my mouth, and then realized two things... 1. This isn't a crouton 2. Who needs croutons The Tofu was grilled so perfectly that it merged the crispness of a crouton on the outside with the softness of tofu on the inside. Superb! For dessert, I had the chocolate souffle (they call it a different name). Definitely a solid souffle! The chocolate inside stayed melty and hot throughout, the dish was not overly sweet, and the two fruit "jams" were an excellent touch! Service is polite, fast, attentive, and the location is spotless!

Yelp
It was nice to escape the crowds a few blocks from the Cathedral with a cool refreshing drink and delicious food.

Yelp
Damn good Yelp find! We needed a quickish lunch in the city center after our tour bus dropped us off, and Yelp came to our rescue as none of the wiener or pasta options suggested by our guide sounded appealing. I opted for the business lunch scrawled on the wall. The waiter translated the 3 courses for me: yellow pepper soup, mushroom and cabbage salad, and spinach gnocchi all for 10 euros. It was all delicious; the salad surprisingly so. It had some of the most mild, sweet cabbage I've ever tasted. My husband got another soup that we shared plus a sausage with a side of beet sauerkraut. Normally, I hate beets, but this stuff was awesome! It was served warm and had a great flavor. I would have gladly eaten a bowl of it. I'm glad we got there when they first opened at noon. When we left after having some good espressos, the dining room was packed. Great value, lovely aesthetics and welcoming service at a place I wouldn't have found on my own. This is why I love Yelp!

Yelp
We walked about 2 kilometer togo for vegeterian food . It was a few item. We had some of them but they were not good at all. They even don't know what is vegetable food . The vegetables has been fried (actually burned ) lost their nutrition . Very few green materials .

Yelp
This place was a perfect spot for a group of both vegetarian and meat eaters. We had the olive tapenade to start along with a spinach soup and a sweet potato soup. All 3 drew rave reviews. One daughter and I each had a small Lucky salad. I swear the smoked tofu tasted like bacon. I thought it was delicious and my 22 year old finicky daughter said it was probably the best salad she ever had. Entrees were good but not spectacular. Service was friendly and attentive. They even brought us a pitcher of tap water which they refilled once. Good food, nice atmosphere and good service made all of us, including my vegetarian , very happy

Yelp
I was absolutely fond of the restraurant the moment I entered. This family run restaurant shines from style and welcomeness, the prices are average but not expensive for the area and the food tasts wonderful. because everything is freshly cooked the menu is not overloaded with dishes, but since the owners emphasize good quality, natural ingreedients, appreciate the whole world of spices and different tasts, everybody will find something he really likes. Additional to the restaurant in the back you can book cookingclasses, held by the owners themselve - not only very much fun, but also professional cooking with easy and quick recipies to repeat at home.

Yelp
Very good veggie restaurant (also caters to non-veggies). Took my parents for dinner here. Had a lovely soup of pear and parsnip, followed by a beetroot risotto. My mums stewed beef was very tasty. They also offer take away

Yelp
Outstanding service and quality fresh food using healthy ingredients. We had a wonderful experience at this place. The staff were very friendly and we met some very nice locals that confirmed our suspicions that this place is a true gem. We were lucky to have come across it.

Yelp
What a wonderful restaurant... the moment I ate their organic salad of fried tofu, buckwheat and fresh vegetables I was hooked and knew this was going to be one of my new favorite places in Vienna. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the servers are friendly, and prices of food are reasonable considering it's organic and freshly prepared. And they have really delicious looking smoothies. I also got to try their dessert of a chia pudding with baked apples. Oh my was it delicious and something I am inspired to replicate at home. I will definitely come back to this place and update my post with more information and photos!

Yelp
I ordered an Austrian "fish and chips" and it was delicious, especially the tartare sauce. Place is modern and host very nice. A nice place to recommend for vegetarians!

Kevin W.

Yelp
Enjoyed the mushroom schnitzel, salmon and green beans. Service was good. Reasonably priced.

Yelp
It was actually a year ago that I dined here, but I'm finally writing a review. The food was fantastic. The dishes were very creative, but very harmonic in their flavors and textures. This was one of the best dining experiences of my life :). For a food lover, especially a vegetarian, this is the #1 reason to visit Vienna.

Yelp
Bad service. Our table was caked in dust and we had to clean the table. The hostess couldn't find our reservation initially. The entrée was served hot. Small interior. With all the hype, we were barely satisfied. We wanted to order another entrée and more drinks, but both servers seemed to ignore us.

Yelp
I've eaten here maybe a half dozen times in my life and on four of these visit I have special gone to Vienna. I love the food here everything has always been beyond amazing. The first time I visited I had some of best red snapper I've eaten, to die for chocolate pudding and berries for desserts Just out of this world ever time

Shawn B.

Yelp
Everything was fresh and delicious. The salads were particularly appreciated. Service was very good
google avatar

Leslie K.

Yelp
This smallish restaurant has a very pleasant ambiance. Although it's not a strictly vegetarian menu there were many items I was able to order. I had a Japanese eggplant dish -- which was quite tasty and a wonderful departure from all of the German-Austrian-Hungarian fare I'd been eating -- and a sweet potato soup. I also had a lovely homemade ginger drink.

Yelp
Fresh, seasonal food, prepared by someone who puts a lot of thought & efforts into it. Our family of 4 had a variety of appetizers, dinners and deserts, all excellent. I already recommended Wrenkh to a friend who is going to Vienna. Quiet location near Stephansdom. Good low key, attentive service.

Yelp
Great stop for vegetarians and vegans as well as meat eaters. Excellent use of whole grains. Flavor combinations sound good on the menu and the result from the kitchen does not disappoint. The quinoa and buckwheat with curry paprika sauce and roasted goat cheese was loved by everyone at the table and we all put it on our list of best meals ever. It is an inspired dish that will be an instant favorite. Another standout is the chia seed pudding. Although not an unusual dish (at least not in Southern California where we hail from) it was probably the best we have had. I make chia pudding at home the way I like it, and this was better. On top of the innovative and satisfying menu, the service is friendly and the ambiance pleasing. There are several large tables outside that seat parties of 6 and as long as there's not a lot of traffic on the narrow one way street in front, it is very pleasant for a warm evening.

Chris W.

Yelp
As a former German exchange student visiting his daughter who is a currently doing an exchange in Austria, I thought it would be fun to take a cooking class in Vienna in German. The Wrenkh Kochsalon exceeded our expectations. Hannah was a delightfully knowledgeable and gifted teacher. Her approach was clear and precise and always encouraging. The Wrenkh staff helped dissipate any lingering social anxiety with a delicious assortment of local wines. The format of the class invited participation and conversation between the diverse participants and the end of the evening we enjoyed the fruit of our labors with a delicious meal. We felt very welcome and had a wonderful father/daughter experience.

Eric S.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner while in Vienna on vacation last week. My girlfriend and I each ordered a steak, which were both cooked to perfection. The waiter was attentive and made excellent wine recommendations.

Yelp
Amazing!!! Chef owns and operates. Best meal I had in Vienna all week!!! Cannot wait to come back to Austria to eat here again!

Yelp
Awesome tasty food. Friendly atmosphere. In the very mid of the city and still in a quiet side street. Easy going. Vegan/vegetarian friendly. Polite and authentic service
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely excellent food and fantastic service. Inventive, serving excellent food for both vegetarians and carnivores. I had the venison stew, my son a very excellent steak, and my vegetarian daughter a wonderful dish that she raved about. The wine selection that the waiter assisted with was absolutely perfect for the meal. I couldn't recommend highly enough.
google avatar

Anja L.

Yelp
Wrenkh is the place where you feel like at home (except you will still have to pay the bill :) You can only find it if you know where it is or by very rare chance will you be passing by. Although the menu list is not that structured, it gives you a chance to find something you are fond of no matter if it's italian, austrian, asian or vegetarian. Size of the plates is mostly unpredictable, you cannot say if it will be huge or just ok. But this leaves you with expectation of surprise and makes your evening not that dull as in typical restaurants where you know every single next step. Waiters will make you feel warm with a smile and sweet jokes. The desserts will have the same effekt, try the muffin with liquid chocolate inside, yummy! I will definetely comeback to explore the menu further!

Barney L.

Yelp
Very pleasant vegetarian dinner. Fairly informal and most customers were walk ins, although reservations are possible. Good, small collection of craft beers and, like most places in Austria, a good alcohol free beer (well 0.5%). Lucky salad, simply dish of dressed lettuce, goats cheese, buckwheat and smoked tofu. But filling and very tasty.
google avatar

Corinne M.

Yelp
I have been to Wrenkh several times during different seasons and I am always pleased with the diverse menu and their attention to bio and food allergies. I wish they had more gluten free options, but maybe in the future. The food is really delicious and I am also a fan of homemade sirups, but not a fan of their prices. 2,50 for tap water with a little bit of holler saft. One of those things that make you go hmmm; just like their portions compared to prices. I know it is downtown, but ... Would like a little more bang for my buck. I would be interested in trying the Kochsalon with a group in the future. It's always full.

Tal A.

Yelp
The service was generous and the waiter helped us find the best vegetarian options in the menu. the lentil dish was incredible and I even got the recipe for it. very much recommended!

Ellen T.

Yelp
I chose this restaurant based on the great yelp reviews and Vegan options. Needles to say, I'm glad I did! Centrally located to main tourist spots, it was easy to find. My friend and I ordered the smoked tofu and crunchy buckwheat salad as well as the spatzle dish. They both tasted amazing and left me craving more. We also paired it with a delicious Austrian beer. Next time I come to Vienna, I definitely plan on coming here!! Kudos to the pleasant wait staff and of course the excellent food from the chefs!!

Yelp
Dont forget to reservate, coz u might get no table. It was the best Hühnerstreifensalat i ever eat! And the 'choco' dessert was great too ;)

Ziv S.

Yelp
Excellent healthy, fresh food. Good service, nice and quiet atmosphere, nicely tucked away in a side street 2min from the busy center of town.

Yelp
Found this place in Yelp while walking around in Vienna. The menu is different from what we've seen anywhere in the world, yet sooooo good. I had the seasonal red pepper chicken while my wife tried the creamy lentils with bread dumpling. Both dishes were super tasty. The vibe is nice, so is the music and service. Highly recommended.

daniel w.

Yelp
Excellent. When you are sick and tired of schnitzel and streudel (and who isn't?) go here. Great dishes, creative, fresh and not typical. Loved the salads and mains. Staff incredibly friendly. What's not to like?!

Ling L.

Yelp
During our short trip to Vienna my most favorite organic restaurant. I had a mini eggplant as starter and roasted Quinoa as main corse. Nice inside and outside seating.

Dan -.

Yelp
Excellent salad! A bit overpriced. Only gave it three stars because they said the appetizer was gluten free but the majority of it was bread that was definitely not gluten free.
google avatar

Christina F.

Yelp
you have to trust the yelp reviews on this place: great prices for some very unique & flavorful food that is surprisingly good for vegan/vegetarian/gluten free options (which can sometimes be devastating, but in this case they're amazing) along with some selections of meat (highly recommend the Angus sausage, it comes with one sausage but it is so filling). my dad and i split the sausage, the 'lucky' salad (with smoked toasted tofu and quinoa which was actually the best salad I've had in a very long time), the pastrami roll (which was also fantastic and available as a to-go option), and the "coco-tomato rice noodles" which was their gluten free take on a traditional Italian angel hair spaghetti with tomato sauce. if you're a picky eater though i would say this might not be for you but if you're an adventurous foodie willing to try new things this is the place to be!!

CatsPjs Z.

Yelp
This is such a great place! Went there in May 2013. Amazing food and great service. There are many vegetarian/vegan options, but also many meat options too. I was most impressed with their salads. The smoked tofu in the salad was very very tasty (Styrian Lucky Salad). For the main dish we had the trout, which was perfect and some other dish (which I can't find on the menu now, might have been a special) that had buckwheat. Everything was just perfect!

Yelp
After the terrible meal my husband and I had at a different vegetarian restaurant last night, this lunch was a breath of fresh air. I started with the sweet potato ginger soup. I was hesitant about ordering this because ginger can easily overpower a dish, but the waiter assured me it was not to strong. It came and after my husband had a bite, he couldn't keep his spoon out and we devoured it while making noises that really shouldn't be made while eating in public. Then I had the Lucky Salad which consisted of goat cheese, toasted barley and fried tofu on a bed of romaine lettuce with some light dressing. I'd never had toasted barley and I'm wondering why because it should be on everything! My husband had the Wrenkh Salad which had fried polenta, tofu and Parmesan and it was delicious as well, but we both preferred mine. We're only in Vienna a few more days but we'll definitely make an effort to come back.

Daz S.

Yelp
We came here for a Valentine's meal and it was perfect. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was even a cooking class going on in the background. We had some amazing and healthy food including a quinoa and goats cheese salad and some friend potato bits with a yoghurt dip. A perfect honeymoon/valentines meal!!! *****
