We had some lovely meals in Sayulita, but of the sit-down restaurants we visited, Yeikame was easily my favorite. We got curious about the place after dining at El Itacate next door--we spotted some people eating giant sopes and they looked so good we decided to check them out the following day. Our plate envy served us well.
I went for a quick Friday dinner with a few of my friends. Like most Sayulita joints, it was very casual--we were coming off a day cruise and half of us were still in our swimsuits--with outdoor seating that ran onto the street. There was some rain while we ate, but we were fine. Service was great and dinner was pleasant and relaxing.
The food was excellent. There were tortilla chips and an array of salsas, and we shared some great guacamole. I ordered the enchiladas in pipian sauce, and these were just beautiful. Soft, stewy chicken enchiladas in a nutty, headily flavorful pumpkin seed sauce. It had the rich complexity of a mole, but was lighter in tone, really irresistible. The enchiladas came with rice and beans, and these were also well above average. I also enjoyed the cochinita pibil sope. This was a fun dish, a big tortilla with black beans, cochinita pibil, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and cream. Kind of like a tostada without the walls, a lot going on, all of it working well together. The pork was great, tender and savory. You can get the sope with any meat, but this worked well.
We had a few more meals left in Sayulita, and I was half hoping we'd end up back here for another go. Yeikame was just fantastic, the kind of restaurant I'd go way out of my way for at home. I hope I get to come back sometime and have those enchiladas again.
