What a wonderful experience. We spent a week In Strasbourg and Heidelberg for the Christmas markets, and this restaurant was by far our absolute favorite. If you are looking for a romantic evening in a rustic and beautiful restaurant that provides amazing food and excellent service, this is your place. You sense its specialness the minute you walk into the dining room. The menu is only in German (we are Americans who only know a touch of German), and our waiter was very helpful in translating some of the items for us. He also recommended a bottle of wine for our meals that we thoroughly enjoyed. We both ordered the lambs lettuce salad with bacon for our appetizers. It was a lovely presentation, and very light and tasty. For our main dish, my husband ordered the veal cheeks and loin, and I ordered the pike-perch with pumpernickel risotto. Both meals were truly amazing in every way. We ended the evening with a shared dessert that included the best ice cream I have eaten. I would also like to make mention of our assistant waiter who we truly enjoyed. If we are ever in Heidelberg again, we look forward to returning to Restaurant Herrenmühle.

My husband chose this restaurant for our wedding anniversary and it was exceptional. Nestled in the old town below the castle, the restaurant is inconspicuous from the street. Once you step through the door you are transported. The outdoor courtyard, covered in vines and hanging flowers, is intimate and enchanting. The service is absolutely world class. And the food was fresh, flavorful, fantastic. I had cod and my husband had steak. The thoughtful wine selection ensured that each of us found our perfect pairing for dinner. Dessert was delightful. If you’re in Heidelberg, call here for a reservation. Not to be missed!

A good fine dining restaurant! The taste of our ser menu is well qualified, especially our main course - grilled salmon. Both of chef and manager take care of our meals well. When we finished our meals, manager would ask us if everything is good or no. And chef friendly served us green salad which wasn’t included in our set menu.

Heidelberg’s best restaurant also has its most pleasant and enjoyable service! Our family had the pleasure of joining Herrenmuhle at dinner to celebrate our time in Heidelberg and our late German grandfather. The food was absolutely wonderful, but our friends Maria and Faeuzi made it a night we’ll all remember forever.

Wow! Best food and service we‘ve had in Heidelberg. Very well done. Faouzi was very attentive, and the wine and food was amazing. The restaurant is a very cool old building and the garden was beautiful. Expensive, but a great dining experience.

A nice and old restaurant in the end of the downtown of Heidelberg. We were a group of 30 people to booked the complete restaurant and was a good experience. We had a fixed menu planned considering the group and it was quite good.

The wild garlic soup(see picture 2) was of excellent quality. Diced prawn served with mornay sauce in the shell entered as the most inconspicuous dish of the evening. Very likely a seasonal dish.

We were a party of two, looking for some fine food and a nice evening. Reviewing the options in Heidelberg, we happened upon this establishment - for which the food preparation and photos looked compelling. We arrived at 8pm, seeking a table for two. The restaurant was empty inside, and approximately half full outside. Unfortunately for what ever reason, we were profiled at the door, and we felt very unwelcome. We were told by the restaurant manager, that they were fully booked. When I enquired as to whether there was a later seating, the reply was also that they were fully booked. I asked was there a reason as to why we were not welcome, to which the answer was fully booked. I asked if is was because of our dress, our look, some other reason, but the waiter refused to answer, smiled and told us they were fully booked. This was a terrible experience and we were disappointed, but Heidelberg has much to offer so we moved on. This is the first time in many years, I have experienced such profiling and prejudice from a resturant. The photo postings of the meal from other patrons appeared to look enchanting, alas we did not get to try. When back at the hotel later in the evening my curiosity got the better of me so I had a quick search on Yelp, Google, and other review sites, and there were a number of reviews who had experienced similar prejudice, either as dinners or turned away. I would say be warned. There are other options in the city. I have eaten at many restaurants around the world including many Michelin rated establishments, I have not had this kind of experience before - and it is certainly far from the ambience and quality that I have experienced elsewhere, so I am at a loss as to what it was this evening that they felt so particular about. I wish them the best for their future, certainly the location is off the beaten path, and as other note seldom busy/fully booked. Good luck - I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I guess elitism is alive and well in Heidelberg in this small out of the way establishment.
