We were a party of two, looking for some fine food and a nice evening. Reviewing the options in Heidelberg, we happened upon this establishment - for which the food preparation and photos looked compelling. We arrived at 8pm, seeking a table for two. The restaurant was empty inside, and approximately half full outside. Unfortunately for what ever reason, we were profiled at the door, and we felt very unwelcome. We were told by the restaurant manager, that they were fully booked. When I enquired as to whether there was a later seating, the reply was also that they were fully booked. I asked was there a reason as to why we were not welcome, to which the answer was fully booked. I asked if is was because of our dress, our look, some other reason, but the waiter refused to answer, smiled and told us they were fully booked. This was a terrible experience and we were disappointed, but Heidelberg has much to offer so we moved on. This is the first time in many years, I have experienced such profiling and prejudice from a resturant. The photo postings of the meal from other patrons appeared to look enchanting, alas we did not get to try. When back at the hotel later in the evening my curiosity got the better of me so I had a quick search on Yelp, Google, and other review sites, and there were a number of reviews who had experienced similar prejudice, either as dinners or turned away. I would say be warned. There are other options in the city. I have eaten at many restaurants around the world including many Michelin rated establishments, I have not had this kind of experience before - and it is certainly far from the ambience and quality that I have experienced elsewhere, so I am at a loss as to what it was this evening that they felt so particular about. I wish them the best for their future, certainly the location is off the beaten path, and as other note seldom busy/fully booked. Good luck - I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I guess elitism is alive and well in Heidelberg in this small out of the way establishment.
