Beautiful setting in the middle of the main square of the caldas, originally told we were not allowed to sit outside, such a shame on a nice sunny day and we were directed to a tidy and well kept area, the outside menu read well and there were a few tasty options... or so we thought, I ordered a rare steak and not only were parts of it well done, it was chewier than eating rubber the peppercorn sauce had a nice flavour but waaayy too many peppercorns it was overpowering. The chips to thier credit were delicious. The second course we got was the selection of meats and cheeses, 2 of the cheese options were nice but the third was so hard I a, full grown man who likes his food, couldn't even bite through this cheese it was so hard. The 'selection of meats' were a complete letdown it consisted of 1 chorizo which to be fair was tasty but very strong flavour of wood burnt smokiness, but then two portions of black pudding one of which smelt like sweaty armpits, was drier than the Sahara and had uncooked rice in it and the other had almost no flavour to it. So actually, only 1 meat, no selection to speak of. We also ordered a cod dish for the kids to share which was the nicest thing we had but was not at all what we were expecting it was some kind of shredded fishcake on a bed of pure rocket. Couldn't tell you much more about it because the kids spat it all out and we had to give them rice cakes that we had packed in our bag as a snack.
The toilets were a mismatch, the ladies were nice and well maintained and looked like a bit of thought and effort went into making them, the men's were the opposite, looked like they'd been slapped together because they forgot they needed a men's toilet.
This all aside the staff were lovely and there were other dishes on the menu that looked tasty. I would go back to give it one more chance but I cant imagine it would be anytime soon. Definitely wouldnt go here with the family or for anyhting important.
