We had a delicious, relaxing meal here. We started with local beers and the garlic mushrooms, then moved on to the salmon with chimichurri sauce and the Neptune Avocado dish. Huge portions! Finally we closed the meal with Kahlua crepes prepared table side. We only wish we could have stayed for the live music but had an early morning to plan for. Don't miss this place!

Al fresco restaurant cum gallery. It has live music and the food is great too.

Beautiful place in the centre of the city. Great ambient. Variety of Italian food and good selections of wines. Unfortunately pretty expensive. My pasta in pesto sauce with chicken was too greasy.

Delicious and Beautiful! Our waiter Enrique from Campeche was extraordinary. Enrique gave us excellent service and made our experience unforgettable. We ordered empanadas and queso frito for appetizer all great and well divided for a table of 6. My mother and sister shared the pizza both gave it a 💯, I had a piece of the dough and completely agree. I ordered the lasagna which I also give a 💯( all pastas ate made in house ). Both my nephew and brother in law had steak which was also to their liking. My niece had the chicken Fettuccine she was also very pleased, portion enough for 2 to share. The bread was amazing! Looking forward to returning!

Google
Italian restaurant with a local adds-on - wonderful combination! Finally, the child received margarita pizza. And my ideal tuna medallion in mango sauce with avocado was just breathe-taking! Wonderful. Since we've been on early dinner, the live music started after we left. but it looked as a nice addition to the atmosphere of the place.

The courtyard is beautiful to dine in. It’s a bit unassuming from the outside. It’s priced towards tourists but gives you a lovely comfortable experience where you could spend an hour slowly dining. There’s apparently music and performers a couple nights a week. The bathrooms were clean. The waiter Daniel was very friendly and helpful with choosing dishes and making suggestions for our time in Merida.

Visited here for our final evening of a small group tour. Ladies toilets nice and clean Live music. Atmospheric ambiance as all tables set inside the yard area . As we had already eaten a lunch, I ate just a dessert. A simple, delicious crepe! As it was the last night, I had the first, and only, alcoholic drink of the holiday (alcohol and 35 - 40 deg C heatwave should not mix) a Ron Zacapa 23,of Guatemalan origin that is a perfect sipping rum and was recommended by staff and Tour Leader alike. I have subsequently discovered that this is available in the UK at an eyewatering price! Pictures not in focus...sorry

I really liked this place! Certainly wouldn't call it a tourist trap!! The food was great and our waiter, Victor, gave us amazing service!!! Beautiful plating! Thanks for a wonderful lunch, Amaro!

Yelp
We've been coming to Amaro for a long time. We've had very good food, including Fish Amaro, Chaya Crepes, Salmon Pizza, and a chicken dish the name of which I can't recall. There's a great variety of drinks--nice traditional mezcalitas, chaya cocktails (with xtabentun), clericot, beer, wine, you name it. The last year or so they've had, in my opinion, a very fine singer/guitarist; she's there, I believe, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and maybe Saturdays. Music starts at 8:30 (it used to start at 8:00, and I wish it still did or at 7:30) -- no cover. (That's not to say that on the other nights you won't hear good music; over the years there have been many fine trova singers.) All in the atrium of an historic building: in our opinion, a special if not unique place in Merida.

Yelp
This nice restaurant in the heart of the tourist district has delicious entrées, including vegetarian options, and a tuna ceviche that I went back for twice! In the evenings, there's music starting at 8:30 and there's also an art exhibit from a local artist. We found it to be quieter than some of the other choices, which we appreciated, and the service was excellent.

Yelp
Amaro is a wonderful "destination "dining location. Amazing food, drinks, atmosphere, love music and amazing service. As a gluten free dairy free customer- Amaro is my go to!

Yelp
Excellent service and food was delicious. Completely recommend for a romantic evening dinner

Yelp
Great place to eat and hear some great music. I always eat here in el centro. Great service and vegetarian choices. I highly recommend trying. Pizzas are great and also the Tuna ceviche. We had the shrimp pizza this time.

Yelp
The restaurant is not entirely vegetarian, but has veg options. Amaro is definitely tailored to an American audience. They had the menu in English or in Spanish. I ordered the guacamole (all the guacamole I had in Mexico was super lime-y, and this was no exception) and the tamales with TVP. It was good to have some protein, but the meal didn't taste overwhelmingly fresh or flavorful. I don't think I would go back again. I would recommend it only if you're veg and in dire straits.

Yelp
Sooooo sloowww! After 30 mins the waiter came back to ask if we ordered a small or large pizza. An hour later we asked for the check, still no pizza, 15 mins later no check, finally I grabbed my stuff The appetizer was good. I'm sure it's good but I don't have 1-2 hours to waste.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place since they did offer a lot more vegetable dishes in Merida. After a few days in Merida I was starving for some veggies. Amaro has a lot of varieties of veggies and even mushrooms but the overall cooking has space for improvements. The biggest turnoff for me was that everything was too sour. It felt like Mediterranean style in which they cooked everything with lemon juice. It's ok but it can't be too much. The flavor was killed by the sourness and we couldn't taste the ingredients well. Grilling vegetables is really simple and what we got was somewhat like grilled pickles. However the place is really nice and they even have a band playing music there so it would be a good date night place if neither of the party is too picky about the food. Price wise it's ok. Certainly not for locals but not the most extravagant either.

Yelp
Loved the trova music and the atmosphere. The singer was really good. The pasta was amazing!

Yelp
I had the best food in Merida Yucatan so far even better than Chaya Maya. I ordered Pollo a la Yucateca, Empanadas and Salmon. My favorite was Salmon it was so tender and flavorful it was for sure the best quality. My second choice was Pollo a la Yucateca this was a surprise since I thought nothing could do better than Chaya Maya another restaurant on the area known for its great food well this Pollo was way better on tenderness and flavor. Empanadas were amazing too I don't like ground beef but this empanadas are the exception the best ingredients, for sure they use the best quality on their dishes. One more thing that did amaze me about this restaurant besides the great food was the building history and not only because is a beautiful mansion but because In this house was born the poet and statesman Andrés Quintana Roo, on November 30, 1787. He was President of the Congress of Chilpancingo and drafted the act of independence of Mexico. I love to eat on a place with history on it you just feel that you are part of history after you finish your meal. If you are in Merida Yucatan you have to eat at this famous Mexican high end cuisine restaurant. And if you want great service ask for Enrique the best waiter so far in Merida.

Yelp
5: Food 5: Customer Service 5: Ambiance 5: Cleanliness When you're with great company, everything else can be hit or miss and it can still be a fun event. When you're in a great restaurant that does a wonderful job from start to finish, the company doesn't matter so much. I could have been with the most boring, dull person on the planet and I would have enjoyed every minute dining at Restaurante Amaro. The scene there is gorgeous, as the main dining area is actually in an open-roof courtyard-esque area, containing tables with umbrellas to block that heavy hitting sun. The walls are covered with pictures of Hispanic movie stars from the 50s and 60s long ago and other miscellaneous art. The staff are incredibly sweet with perfect timing and perfect service. The bread con chimichurri sauce (for starters), Chaya drink and Chaya crepes were all delicious. I am dreaming of a meal there again. Someday... Amaro is very close to the Plaza Grande... Just about a block away and slightly easy to walk right by, as the entrance isn't very flashy or wide. The waiters are wearing yellow and the restaurant tables seem to be too. There's a stage and often live music most nights of the week. I would be a regular here if it weren't so far away! Hope you make it here if you're ever in the city! Enjoy and have fun!

Yelp
A disappointing dinning experience. The chaya crepes had too much chaya it was overbearing. The almond fish fillet was very plain with a few raw almond slices sprinkled on top. The cream of vegetable soup was great as was the stuffed avocado. Service was absolutely confusing. There were so many waiters serving our table no one knew what was going on. Not what I expect when I go to a nice restaurant to dine.

Yelp
Amaro in Merida Centro has great food and excellent service. The setting is definitely a 5 and food was pretty darn close. Prices are totally reasonable also. Definitely put in your list for Merida dining.

Yelp
I visit Merida frequently from the United States, I came here because of the vegetarian options. I ordered food that was nothing special, pizza was like cardboard actually, and to have beers in a nice setting. When I asked for my check they had added an automatic gratuity. For one person. I asked to take it off, I actually would have tipped more if I wasn't so offended by this. He refused. I will never go back here, or recommend to traveling tourists. They will take advantage of you, it's also illegal to add gratuity here. Thanks for reading.

Yelp
This is a beautiful Courtyard dining experience with live Latin (romantic not loud) music. I had a steak. While it didn't look like the steak I am used to being thinner and a perfect rectangle, it was seasoned well and tender. They have a full bar and attentive staff. We all had to move for cover due to a quickly passing rainstorm, but they had covered dining too. I will go again on my next trip to Merida.

Yelp
I just had a wonderful vegetarian meal tonight at Amaro. The service was great and the guitarist perfectly unobtrusive. I highly recommend the stuffed eggplant.

Yelp
I've been to Amaro a number of times, mostly for the music and ambiance. The food is ok in my opinion. A must try is their vegetarian lasagna or the typical yucatecan dishes. Not recommended if it's raining.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch at Amaro. It was one of the best meals we had during our vacation in Merida because I didn't have to struggle to find a vegetarian option. They had an entire page of their menu full of vegetarian options-- with protein! We had the stuffed squash and eggplant meshe. Both were fabulous. Then we decided to have the crepe de cajeta for dessert. Another excellent choice! It seems like it is more popular for dinner than for lunch, but we still enjoyed our meal and had great service. Oh, and a high chair with a tray for our son-- an added bonus! One caveat-- I speak enough Spanish that I had no problem ordering and interacting with our server. Not sure if they have an English menu or staff who can speak English to explain menu items. If you aren't super comfortable ordering in Spanish, use a translator on their online website before you go just in case.

Yelp
Yea, it's immediately obvious that this place is a touristy spot... so what. The dining is in an open air courtyard with adorable ambiance and live music being played during dinner. Its just perfect. The food is good, not great, but hearty and filling. The service was fine, prompt and not bothersome. I would go here again.

Yelp
Amaro restaurant is an international friendly establishment in the center of Merida Yucatan, close to the main square. The restaurant has a very romantic, dim, candle lit setting with live music to the tunes of ballads and boleros which only adds to the romanticism of the place. The wait-staff are very attentive, courteous and world class professionals that know how to treat their clientele. This could be a perfect place not only for a romantic dinner but for a relaxing evening as well. Most importantly the food is excellent; their menu offers a variety of options for different diets like vegetarian, with choices of delicious fish, vegetarian lasagna, poultry and authentic Yucatan cousin. I would recommend the following dishes, their stuffed fish with cheese and spinach is to die for, or their vegetarian lasagna which is not too heavy to digest for the evening.

Yelp
Food and drinks are great, and ambience is very inviting. When visiting Yucatan, this is a good place to enjoy!

Yelp
I wanted to like Amaro, but honestly, I probably wouldn't come back here. The wait staff were very earnest...food was so so. Cocktails were not great. Needs work on creativity and innovative food! Pizza was positively awful.

Yelp
Soooo romantic! Loved dining in the courtyard under the trees (next to a fan) while listening to live music. Great for a bottle of wine and their staple guacamole pizza. Someone proposed at the table next to us and the performer joined us to talk about our trip.

Yelp
Great ambiance with even better food, live music started around 8:30pm. Come earlier though to beat the rush. We loved all three dishes we ordered. The tres citrus fish was a well balanced sweet and sour sauce on a white fish grilled to a slightly crisp exterior with a melt-in -your mouth creamy meat. The grilled vegetables were grilled to a fresh perfection drizzled with lime juice. Squashes as carrots are cooked through completely. Broccoli was impressively tasty. Vegetable Spaghetti was almost bready tasting with a nutty cheese and Italian taste but light with a few pieces of brocolli and cherry tomatoes. It goes great with sweet garlic vinegar if you ask for it. Almond rice milk was outrageously sweet. Someone with a robust sweet teeth would love it!

Yelp
Nice little place. The only place I've gone back to twice. Small wine list but the red blend from Spain actually quite tasty. Friendly efficient waiters. Open air seating in the courtyard. An actual salad! With spinach! Very nice soloist singing traditional old Latin love songs. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because most of the vegetarian mains are deep fried and stuffed with cheese. But the soups and salads are excellent.

Yelp
Clean and fresh food. Good experience overall. Best fajitas and habanero sauce i ate in mexico. Bill as expected. Really a good place to try.

Yelp
Nice restaurant in the Merida Centro with live music in the evening starting at 8:30. Helpful waiter that guided us through local Mexican wine selection, appetizer and entree selection. Beautiful courtyard and great atmosphere.

Nitish S.

Yelp
Mexican food in fine dine setting. This restaurant was in downtown Merida, a short walk from all the action. I really appreciate them having a huge variety on the menu. Maybe my review is a little biased since I had awesome Mexican food in Cancun and Playa del Carmen before arriving here. Overall, very good ambience, hygiene and food presentation. A little less flavored than your regular Mexican salas and sauces!
google avatar

Moe B.

Yelp
For the tourist area of Merida near the Zocala, it's pretty ok. Passable food in a lovely atmosphere. Caters to English and German speaking visitors. You could do a hell of a lot worse.
google avatar

Adam T.

Yelp
Vegan friendly. Had enchiladas which used some kind of soy based fake meat "sin queso" and they were delicious. I had to ask for the salsa habanero because I like more spice. Courtyard setting is great. We were there with our 2 young kids and they didn't wreck the place too badly. Very friendly and helpful staff. Went there for a late lunch. I think it may get busy at night, but we had the place to ourselves.

Alyssa J.

Yelp
We ordered pizza here- a big mistake- it was not tasty and the crust was strange, flat and tasteless. Maybe their other dishes are better.

Yelp
A great central historico location, lovely courtyard, a nice selection for both vegetarians and carnivores. Really great live music usually starts about 10pm. This is not haute cuisine, but it is good food.

Pam F.

Yelp
This place is a gem--excellent food (many veg options, but not strictly veg). Creative menu & beautiful courtyard!

El G.

Yelp
Let's get real. This is a good restaurant at tourist prices. It is not twenty 5-star review good by a long shot. But it is good and worth trying.
