Carmen de Aben Humeya's outdoor dining space and garden overlooks the Alhambra, and having dinner here is an unforgettable experience, thanks to the views alone! Make reservations in advance and arrive before sunset so you can see the Alhambra as it's lit up at night!
Starting with our apertif, our friendly server brought us bread (a generic roll), Spanish extra virgin olive oil, a smoked pork hummus, and tiny pieces of Salchichon, a Spanish cured sausage. We continued with our entrees, which were quite hard for us to select, given the diversity and creativeness of the dishes! Our waitress recommended the dried octopus from Motril (Spain)--the chopped pieces of octopus and the crispy tentacles sat on a creamy, smoked potato and zucchini puree. The preserved octopus was delicious, though the dish overall was quite salty and could have been better balanced in flavor. We also got the fall-apart tender stewed beef cheeks, served with a cheese puree and fried green peppers. This dish was also tasty, but like the octopus, was quite salty and felt somewhat monotonic after a while.
Come to this place for its views and fantastic service! Its food is creative and interesting as well, though the portions are somewhat small, and the flavors could have used more balance.
