Restaurante Casa Rivera

The experience overall was good. The location is great - a restaurant set in what used to be Cantinflas' house with great history behind it. The service was impeccable and the cocktails were great. The food was meh. I was expecting something at least good and then when I saw the check, I knew the food should have been great. For the price, the food is not up to par. Could have been the entree I selected. Nevertheless, a good experience considering the drinks, service and setting.

What a complete disappointment. This beautiful house used to be home ro a wonderful 5 star restaurant. The last time I was here I brought my family for amazing drinks, appetzers, meals and desserts. What still stands out in my mind is a plate of figs with crumbled cheese and honey drizzled over them. Years before was a plate of deep fried squash flowers and a soup that was of the gods I was sure. While the service was still impeccable, the wait staff struggled to carry over a ridiculously huge sandwich board that now serves as a menu. The offerings on said board were unbelievable. All things I could buy from any street vendor or could have asked a talented 8 year old to prepare for me. The drinks are yummy but when you charge 5 star prices you'd better be delivering more than Paul's Diner! Also... The bar used to be beautiful! Whoever "renovated" it?... Well... Mistakes were made, BIG BIG mistakes. I hope that Cantinflas can't see this.

Last night we stopped in to Casa Rivera for a drink and to look at the house that once belonged to Cantinflas a famous movie star. The reason was the pool was designed by Diego Rivera another famous person but an artist. and a icon along with Cantinflas for Mexico. i was very impressed with the service staff . We went with 4 small plates 1. Moletas de Platano the taste was very balanced between the banana masa and the beans and cheese and then you put the mola on it and the partnership was the best. wor 2. Cecina is plate of very this steak cooked in lemon juice along with chile, cilantro and cebolla excellent with the thin chips that come theiciche plate. 3. Ceviche Fish that has been marinated and served on 2 round tostadas. very well done and very tasty. 4. Tlayudas de Hongos around pan that looked like pizza but instead of dough it was done a very thin tortillas base . Again Tasteful. I really enjoyed my meal and to around the building's history and artwork made the night perfect
