Restaurante El Patio Del Balmoral

This is one of the best restaurants in downtown San José. I went there one night and everything was good. Axel attended efficiently, and he was very diligent with getting everything in place. I ordered a Costa Rican soup, and it was full of meat, and it was very tasty. Unfortunately, they did not have my first choice for the main course, which was San José fusion, a mixed platter of meat and seafood. I had to order a second choice, which was seafood mix with rice. It was tasty and good. Overall, I had a good experience here.

We found this place via Google reviews, and the quality of food wasn’t up to the mark. Even though the interior was amazing with tropical theme, we wished the food would have been better. The service was OK and the location is prime as well. We were exploring the escalante road and found this restaurant at a walking distance. The drinks were great, we just had mocktails so cannot comment on how the cocktails were. It’s a good place to hang out in the evening for a couple of drink and snacks rather than a meal when you are starving. Still overall a good time we had!

We only had wine here waiting for the start of an event at the National Theater. The ambiance and decor is very nice, especially considering it's only location on the street in downtown San Jose. Service was excellent. I will return to try the food.

The service is pretty much nonexistent. Waited 15 min before a server came by to take order. They were out of most fish dishes so ended up with chicken Alfredo and risotto. Chicken Alfredo had ham in it along with chicken. Was not bad but nothing special. Risotto was pretty bad with uncooked rice. Ask for a refill of tea and 15 min later had to ask another server for a refill only to learn they charge more. Lots of other good places to eat close by. We should have checked out google reviews before we walked in. Lots of other similar experiences.

Food Quality: i believe that if the food actually made it hot to the table, might be quite good. Which is a pity for all the work from the kitchen staff to be ruined like so. Portions: restaurant options in general seemed to be a decent amount. I was VERY disappointed with the breakfast and the set menu options they give. For the price paid for the night, to not have a continental open buffet option, its just unacceptable. Drinks: decent amount of options. Price: $$$ a bit expensive for the restaurant of this quality. Service: very veeery slow and zero attention to details. We were taken to our table, then for 30minutes almost impossible to get someone’s attention to place an order. Then it took over an hour to get a hamburger and a soup made. Which was already not hot when it got there, but also while we had to wait another 5-10minutes to get cutlery for the soup. Also had to get up and take some cutlery and napkins myself as we were not even given napkins. Then of course another 20minutes to find someone so we could pay. Atmosphere: restaurant is quite big and has many nice spots to sit, but it gets very windy and cold, especially at night, another reason the food arrives cold. When they close the plastic protection still a lot of cold wind comes through. Things to improve: train staff, improve breakfast. Payment Method: cash, cc

We were staying in the hotel so endf up dining here multiple times. For breakfast we had the Gallo Pinto, and it was delish. It was so flavourful with all the herbs. For lunch, we had a 30 mins window so we requested our server for a quick lunch n he was so nice to accommodate. He recommended the seafood rice ( it would be quick) which was delish n packed with flavors. We also ordered the ceviche which was pretty good. That said, I found the rice in the seafood rice to be slightly undercooked, which is a common thing I am noticing. Great restaurant with great service!

Food was pretty good, the value was OKAY. Atmosphere and location are great. The service left something to be desired, but we were there on a slow night. Would still recommend if you are looking for a bit of a nicer dinner in this area of San Jose.

This place has the best patio for people watching in San Jose. Unfortunately the service was lacking as multiple times we had to get up from our table to ask for more water or other items because the service was horrible. The pizza would have been better if it was hot but it felt like the cook put it in the microwave instead of cooking in a hot oven. If I ever came here again it would be only for a cafe and dessert and people watching.
