Our hotel recommended this place for dinner. It was good. I was a little surprised by what I had got for a caprese pizza but it was different but in a good way. I also got the passion fruit cheesecake which was really good. The service was relatively quick. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the local area.

El Patio is a really good casual restaurant right downtown. The front of the restaurant opens too a pedestrian Street so there is great people watching here if you sit upfront. Food is great and they have a large selection of mostly Costa Rican dishes.

The food was fresh and tasty but a bit differently prepared than what I was use to. Music was great, the beer was cold, and the service was nice and with a smile.

Food was cooked to perfection. The service by Fernando was very well done without feeling suffocated in the slightest. Good street view with a nice relaxing atmosphere

We found this place via Google reviews, and the quality of food wasn’t up to the mark. Even though the interior was amazing with tropical theme, we wished the food would have been better. The service was OK and the location is prime as well. We were exploring the escalante road and found this restaurant at a walking distance. The drinks were great, we just had mocktails so cannot comment on how the cocktails were. It’s a good place to hang out in the evening for a couple of drink and snacks rather than a meal when you are starving. Still overall a good time we had!

I had the pleasure of visiting El Patio during my recent three-night stay in San José, and it quickly became my go-to spot. I came every morning for breakfast and even returned a couple of times for dinner and drinks with friends it was just that good! The food was consistently delicious, whether it was a light breakfast or a more filling dinner. What truly made the experience stand out, though, was the service. While I don’t remember all the staff names, everyone I interacted with was genuinely friendly and kind. A special mention goes to Ashley and Karla, who went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and well taken care of each time I visited. Their warmth and attentiveness added a personal touch that really made me feel at home. If you’re visiting San José and looking for a place with great food, good vibes, and exceptional service, I highly recommend stopping by El Patio. I know I’ll be back on my next trip!

This is one of the best restaurants in downtown San José. I went there one night and everything was good. Axel attended efficiently, and he was very diligent with getting everything in place. I ordered a Costa Rican soup, and it was full of meat, and it was very tasty. Unfortunately, they did not have my first choice for the main course, which was San José fusion, a mixed platter of meat and seafood. I had to order a second choice, which was seafood mix with rice. It was tasty and good. Overall, I had a good experience here.

Hotel Balmoral in S.J., Costa Rica, happily includes breakfast at "The Patio" restaurant: a wonderful addition to my vacation. The restaurant is spacious, comfortable and inviting. Especially nice after a late evening out. (smile, please!) I also much enjoyed the hospitality of Restaurant Host, Fernando. He helped me with my beginner's Spanish, explained menu options, and thoughtfully asked of my doings here in San Jose. Fernando then patiently answered some questions I had about living in Costa Rica. His frank and specific responses were a tremendous education. 🙆‍♂️ So trust me on this: The Patio + Fernando are what you want to recall while in downtown San Jose, Costa Rica! 🙂
