The Moscow chefs stirring up a culinary revolution - SilverKris

"Housed in the former Olsufiev family residence that later became Moscow’s Central House of Writers, this historic dining room combines faded aristocratic grandeur—a gigantic chandelier once from Komsomolskaya metro hangs above—with a menu of classic Soviet comfort foods. Tables are laden with pirozhki, Pozharsky cutlets, mushrooms with onion and Olivier salad, all washed down with horseradish vodka, creating a nostalgic, convivial atmosphere that evokes the city’s literary and social past." - Matthew Luxmoore

It is a very impressive building, with quite a historical past and it is worth visiting. The food was OK and the waiter that served us, was polite. What I couldn't stand, is that thought I read that someone could have even a tour inside the building, we weren't allowed to go even upstairs to see... And even though the waiter told us to go to the first part of the second floor, there was an other guy, that told us it was a private place and couldn't go... The restaurant was...almost empty.....as you can see..

Feel privileged! Not just a restaurant, but a club, a historical building and antiques gallery. For a special occasion, romantic dinner or lunch business meeting, this place is a great choice! Very private, very upscale. Yet, reasonably priced for what you get.

Worst service, i order sits on the phone and the restaurant staff first tell me there no order and then i get my sit, after hour come the manager of the place and start to threatening, "who give you the sit" she said "today its club member only, do you want pay 5000 euro? “ we explain we order a sits week before and the staff walk as to the sits. We walk before we finish the dessert and no one apologize.

Great place located in a historical building, which literary and artistic elites used for passing time. The menu is carefully thought out and offers several traditionally russian dishes among other choices. The service is very professional with waiters not being intrusive but ready to offer an expert advice. The quality of food is superb but the prices are on the expensive side. I'd recommend budgeting at least $100 USD per person for an inclusive experience, which includes cold and hot appetiser, main dish, select alcohol and a desert. Live piano music makes the visit very relaxing and enjoyable. The only unfortunate cirmustance is that some parts of the building that used to belong to the restaurant and were accessible to all clients are now owned by a private restaurant and club with restricted access.

Old, very rustic building with wooden floors that crack under your feet the same way they did under the feet of historic russian writers. The food is good, wine for every taste but not for every budget. Very good service. Ambient live piano music accompanies the evening. One of my favourite places in Moscow.
