So this was another incredibly cool place I discovered last summer, post-cruise, by accident. After a week and a half of very weird Alaska in the summer sun (about 20 hours of it), arriving in Seward, I really needed a coffee shop, so I was just looking for the nearest one to the hotel. I had no idea I'd find that the nearest coffee shop was in a converted church, with great local art all over it, including upstairs, and with equally good pastries, too! What a wonderful find!
Anyway, what I was there for originally, I can confirm, they have great espresso, and make wonderfully good oat milk cortados. If I were ever back in Seward (presumably pre- or post-cruise, if I'm lucky!), I'd definitely come back here if I were looking for caffeine, that cortado was one of the best I've had. (Indeed, having discovered this place my first day in Seward, I *did* go back, the second of the two days we were there.) Also loved their pretty reasonable upcharge for oat milk (50 cents, as of a few months ago), and especially, that they didn't charge extra for the oat milk for the cortado (another reason I'd be there all the time if I happened to be in Seward.)
I'd also come back if I needed any pastries - though their pastries seem to rotate frequently, as a few of the items from the first day weren't there the second one, including a gluten free cheesy biscuit my wife had wanted to get another one of, after trying it the first day and loving it (I tried a bite - I *never* like gluten-free biscuits, but theirs were a definite exception). I can also confirm, between the two days: the chocolate chip coffee was wonderful, extremely worth it, full of gooey, great chocolate. Might even beat (slightly!) my favorite chocolate chip cookie locally. The lemon bar, also super worth it, exactly what a good lemon bar should taste like. The lemon-lavender scone, super worth it as well, it was $5.50, but it was also fantastic. Perfect sweetness, and full of lemon and lavender, just a great scone. The cheese and prosciutto croissant, at $6, was a great croissant, but I did feel like for $6, could've used a bit more... prosciutto and cheese. Not sure I'd say that one was worth it (it was a great croissant though).
Also, while I was happy to be back in the US, and therefore technically eligible for data... the Seward 4g coverage is pretty spotty, so I'm also happy to say, their wifi worked way better than our 4g coverage.
One warning though, when I was there the first day at 3 pm on Saturday (clearly well after the morning rush), it wasn't busy, and I got an espresso super fast. When I was there the following morning, 10 am on a Sunday, it was busy as absolute *frack*, so the cortado obviously wasn't quite so fast. Not their fault, just clearly word is out! (As it should be, it's a super cool place. And did I mention all the great local art hanging all over the inside?)
