How to Tackle Southeast Asia, Country by Country

"One day you’re holding on for dear life to the edge of a cyclo as you zip through Hanoi, the next you’re knocking on doors at traditional H’mong houses in a village in the Vietnamese highlands. Add kayaking in Hạ Long Bay (above), a history tour of Saigon, and a cocktail or two at the war-era landmark Rex Hotel, and now you have a full itinerary."

All in all this is a fantastic hotel. Lovely friendly staff always welcoming and smiling. I'd inadvertently cancelled one of our two reservations but the reception staff bent over backwards to help. Rooms aren't huge but not too small you're falling over each other, some rooms have windows and other don't. The room we had had two windows that was fine except that in the early morning the local traffic starts by blowing their horns at each other. The first morning I woke thinking it was the postie delivering a parcel. The location of the REX is impeccable, with beer, food, money changers, laundry services, and travel agents all within meters of the front door. Lovely rooftop bar for a nightcap with a view, interesting indoor swimming pool to cool down at the end of the day, and elevator music that sets the bar so high that every elevator ride from now on will be judged solely on the REX.

As a family, we stayed at Rex Hotel for 1 night as a last minute change to our Vietnam itinerary. The staff were friendly from the get go and very professional/helpful. The services (room, pool, pool table, bar, restaurant etc) were lovely, clean and offered a nice retreat from the busy streets. It was nice staying in the heart of the old quarter, very close walking distance to a lot of places that we needed. Well worth the stay!

Clean, decent and service-oriented hotel. The hotel comes with a rooftop bar, indoor swim pool and a restaurant. Rooftop bar provides a good view of Old quarter and surrounding area. Staff is very friendly. Bed is clean. One complaint is the door requires some push to close properly. Overall, great hotel for all travellers

Rex Hotel located in a very strategic location. The hotel is very clean and staffs are very friendly. The restaurant in the 14th floor is very unique. You are allowed to take your food and drink from the restaurant and enjoy them at the roof top sky lounge everlooking the scenery of Hanoi City. The restaurant itself has a five star staff called Vivian. She is very helpful, has a sweet smile and speaks a good English ....

Good: Aircon Mattress Quiet rooms Great breakfast Rooftop bar Bad: Don't even consider the pool, it's in a humid room with no noise buffering. Small and stuffy rooms. 3 star at best. Common areas are cramped and upstairs has no AC during the morning/day. Can't really have any space to chill out/relax in the hotel (isn't this sort of the point?) When we checked out they held us from departing while they 'checked the room'. I'm not a criminal. Thank you overall

I recently stayed at Rex Hotel Hanoi. The location is excellent, right in a prime area close to the market street and the lake. The rooms were decent and comfortable enough for a short stay. However, the service was quite disappointing. At check-in, the staff showed inconsistent behavior, which left a poor first impression. The breakfast experience was also concerning – staff were unwelcoming and at times rude. When I requested a Vietnamese coffee, I was told to make it myself, yet shortly after another guest was served the same coffee at their table. This lack of consistency and hospitality negatively impacted my overall experience. The hotel has potential due to its location and reasonable rooms, but service standards need significant improvement.

We stayed at Rex Hanoi Hotel 1. Arrival was so easy. Hannie is an angel. She assiated us and took it upon herself to go to pharmacy and translate for us. My husband felt better in one day. We gave her a gift for her kindness 2. Edwards helped with luggage and always approached us to see if we were doing well. 3. Room was great nice and cool especially for us women with hot flashes. Clean room always 1202 is close to stairs to go to bar and pool. You can hear sometimes the people outside of your room. But not bad at all. 4. Hillary our bartender was so friendly always with a smile. Made our drinks just the way we want it for her being a starter. She is a great service to this hotel. We will come back again. Till next time Rex Hanoi Hotel.

First time visitor to Vietnam and solo trip. Booked at Rex Hanoi hotel via Booking.com. Spoke with Hannie via hotel's customer service and she was awesome. She helped me book on some tours before I arrived in Hanoi. She met me on arrival which was a national holiday so made check in a breeze and worry about the payment for the activities not a priority so I could settle down. The hotel is beautiful, well located and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Enjoyed the trips I booked on including Ha long bay and a Hanoir street food tour with Train street. Best 2 days I had.
