Rex Hotel

We went here as a retired couple for lunch. My husband ordered the roast of the day off of the Seniors Menu and I ordered the beef schnitzel off of the main menu. After ordering our meals and drinks both arrived very quickly at our table - very prompt and quick service. The staff were friendly and attentive. My husband's roast was both plentiful (it was a Seniors meal) and delicious as was my beef schnitzel, the salad my meal came with was both very fresh and tasty. We both also ordered dessert which was also delicious. Overall a lovely pub meal. We'll be back again.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but after a long week on the tools, I decided to stop in at The Rex Hotel for a feed and a few drinks—and I’ve got to say, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while. Straight off the bat, the place has a great vibe. It’s got a proper atmosphere—classy but not pretentious, just real welcoming and well set up. You walk in and feel looked after straight away. Now, I’ve got to give a big shout-out to Rich, the bar manager. The bloke is a true professional. Knows his stuff back to front, makes a bloody good drink, and treats every customer like they matter. Doesn’t rush you, doesn’t faff about—just good, solid service with a smile and a bit of chat. You can tell he takes pride in what he does, and honestly, you don’t see that enough these days. The food was spot on too. Had a decent feed—everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavour. No corners cut. You can tell the kitchen takes just as much pride in their work as the front-of-house team. Whether you’re after a quick bite or a proper meal, they’ve got you sorted. Honestly, if you’re after a place with great food, proper drinks, and a team that gives a damn, The Rex is the place. Hats off to everyone there—and especially to Rich behind the bar. Legend. I’ll be back for sure.

Rich is honestly the best. He keeps the bar running smooth, always helps people out, and actually listens. Plus he’s super proactive with the beer lines — if people are asking for something, he makes sure it’s on tap before you even have to mention it again. Chill, friendly, and just gets stuff done. Melbourne Cup lunch. Very tasteful and excellent staff attention. Cost very reasonable, wine list price to induce a second bottle. Having booked very late we were overwhelmed by what we received will be looking towards next year. Thank you to all staff

Had a Birthday Party for 14 people. Every meal that was brought to the table was lovely. We are from a restaurant family so we know how meals are prepared and presented and we weren’t disappointed. The staff are friendly and considerate. And the new revamp looks great. Will definitely return. Thank you to all the staff.

An old school pub vibe with an impressive upgrade! Filled with locals, amazing food, spacious outdoor area and friendly staff. Rich is always incredibly kind and accommodating!

First time to eat in this bistro. Three of us came for dinner on a Sunday. Really friendly service and the food was excellent both in quality and quantity. Great price for the meals too. We will be back. Thank you

Had Dinner there last night greet at the bistro by lovely young lady showed us to our table also ask if we want somewhere quiet as the was 3 tables for a party .she offered us also a table quiet away from them which was lovely ordered food food was amazing I ordered lamb Souvalaki which was so yummy I hope they don’t take that off the menu and hubby ordered southern fried burger which he enjoy generally he don’t like slaw but when together he really enjoyed it we will definately come back again thank again we enjoyed our evening

Well, I've been hammering through my reviews to try and get through all of the outstanding ones (that is the ones that I haven't posted yet) before I head off on my next adventure, and it seems that I have reached the section where I have listed all of the really bad places that I would simply not recommend. As you can guess from this intro the Rex is basically one of those places. Mind you, inner Adelaide, like many of the other cities, has been transforming, however that transformation does not appear to have hit the Rex at this time. It's been here a while, and I have frenquented this place on occasion, and honestly, very, very little has changed with the place. It certainly isn't a pub that I would recommend - it has little character, and little to make me want to come back again, especially since there are pubs that are a thousand times better in the local area.

Visited the Rex with my parents and younger siblings on a Saturday night. The staff were pretty helpful, and the atmosphere was very comfortable and country-esque. Our meals arrived really quickly, a lot faster than I expected given the place looked pretty packed! My dad and myself had the special- a 500g steak for $20 on Saturday (there are different specials each day of the week). It was really tasty, even as a non-steak person! My mother had a chicken breast dish which I tasted and was also really nice! They also have a salad bar, which is a nice change from many other restaurants these days. The salads I tried were very nice, including coleslaw, which I usually find to be really gross when anyone but me makes it! Overall it was a really nice meal out and satisfied a group of varying ages and tastes. Also, there is a quiz night on Saturday evenings that is free, and uses multiple choice questions/answer buttons at tables. We didn't stay for this, but it looked like it would've been fun!

Chats bistro ...value for money, great friendly staff, comfortable with space to move, and quiet enough to hold a conversation even when packed ... Food is always enjoyed...

When I first went into the Rex Hotel, told by a friend that we had to go there for dinner, I was very unsure. But once I was in there I was definitely sold. Having an old school country vibe, like as if I was in the local RSL back in my home town of Mildura, it has a really nice atmosphere and (if the right people are putting in the coins) good music played on the jukebox. There are also a number of pool tables, which I don't seem to find a lot of in hotel-pubs. What I was most surprised was with the quality of the chicken schnitzel I had. I mean, I know, how can you screw up a schnitzel? But this one just seemed to be amazing. The pepper gravy was really tasty without being too hot, which I really like.

This place was near my old work so was handy to go through their drive thru bottle shop sometimes and we even had a Xmas lunch here, mind you we had it in January. Pretty much just the bottleshop faces the road and you go around the back for the main entrance. There's plenty of parking on site if you do drive. The meal we had here wan't bad but it wasn't something to brag about. Just average I guess. However I have also used this Hotel for accomodation for staff we had to bring over for certain events. Their accomodation is very well priced and the rooms are fine. When I have rung to make any bookings or for any other dealings I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Definitely offer great accomodation at fantastic prices and still very close to the city.

Lunch was mediocre at best, and our meals took quite awhile to arrive. lucky I had great company.
