How to Save Money on Your Next Trip to Reykjavik (Updated 2025)

"If you don't mind staying a bit outside the city center, I recommend Reykjavik Campsite — at 3,285 ISK per night it's the cheapest paid accommodation option in the city." - Matthew Kepnes

Great campsite, close to Reykjavík. Great price for the location. Good bathroom facilities and shared kitchen. Lots of helpful signage. A Paved parking spot for our camper van was a welcome change after many muddy sites that week. Grass area available as well for tents, though we did spot a few small campervans parked there as well. BYO lock so you can use their complementary lockers with outlets inside! Find these in the common kitchen. We didn't have a lock, so we didn't feel comfortable leaving our electronics unlocked to charge unattended overnight. The smart campers who brought a lock were lucky indeed! We visited in September. We booked ahead (the only time in 10 nights we did this) and easily entered the campsite and all amenities with our assigned code. Paved lot was fairly full, though grass lot had lots of empty space.

Expensive but well equipped. We liked our stay in a campervan here. Showers were included and the water was HOT! Everything was accessed with a code, including a kitchen and a space to sit and eat or socialise. Washing machines and dryers also available. We enjoyed it

We just finished a two week camping van tour of Iceland and frankly found the majority of sites overpriced, poorly resourced and minimal support from owners. The two exceptions to this were: - Berunes Campsite. The site was small and in a lovely backdrop. The owner was attentive. There was a kitchen and free showers and a nice place for meals and drinks. The second was Skaftafell campsite. Free showers and free laundry. The remaining lot that we stayed in were dreadful - some didn’t even have a shower. Some have two toilets for 30 + sites. The prices didn’t match these poor resources - they were $70+ Australian. We would not recommend camping in Iceland other than the two aforementioned. Of course this was our experience and others may well disagree.

Access to all facilities is available with the code provided upon reservation — it’s quite convenient and reasonably managed. The kitchen can accommodate about four groups cooking at the same time, and there’s a hot water dispenser that’s always available, which made cooking very convenient. We rented a Renault Master, which is a little over 5 meters long, but we just booked the smallest “A site” and stayed there (no staff checked or required any additional procedure). The only downside was that there were too many flies in the dining area. Overall, it’s a decent camping site. 3people - 9895isk

Decent sized kitchen and dining area, 3 washer/dryer sets, clean(ish) facilities. Absolute highlight is the pool next door - 1.300 kroner for a great swimming pool and hot tubs, absolutely local vibes, definitely go there if you are staying at the camp!

We stayed two separate nights at the Reykjavik Eco Campsite during our travels around Iceland in October 2025. The location was excellent being only about 10 mins from the city of Reykjavik, and about 40 mins from Keflavík Airport. The campsite was spacious and we had no issues getting in/out or finding a spot to park. Bathrooms and showers were clean and we never had to wait to use the toilets or showers. The cat outside the women’s bathroom was so sweet. We didn’t utilize the laundry room or cooking area but both looked great from what we saw.

Best campground. Located centrally in Reykjavik. Close to almost everywhere. Bathroom and kitchen are open 24/7. No time limit. Lots of stoves and lots of free leftover food from campers that are leaving, which was really helpful for small things like salt and oil. No need to buy. Wifi was working well and quite fast. Only drawback is the dryer in the laundry was not drying well, leaving clothes half wet. Overall, the best campground

Fantastic campground right in the city. It took me about 45 minutes to walk downtown. I loved the pool just down the road (so many hot tubs). The campground has fantastic facilities - kitchen, eating area, dish washing area, laundry and great washrooms with showers.
