The Exciting Toronto Restaurants Popping Up Along This Newly Delicious Stretch | Condé Nast Traveler

"Reyna on King may be popular for brunch and lunch, but it's especially alluring at dusk, when its big wraparound windows glow, lantern-like. Inside, a lush canopy of greenery hangs over the long dining room and bar, making it easy to channel Andalusia over a fizzy Sevilla Spritz and a plate of cauliflower croquettes."

What can I say? I’m a sucker for a corner bistro. The shawarma platter and croquettes were my favourites of the dishes ordered. The pitas are so fresh and fluffy. The space is stunning with the ceiling of hanging foliage. The service is lovely.

Great food and service. We came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. They have a beautiful patio and some tables by the open window to enjoy the sunshine. We ordered lamb shank Benny and croque madame. Good flavour and presentation. Both were amazing. The decor was very nice as well. Will come back next time for dinner!

Google
I would realistically give this place a 4.5 ⭐️ The best part of this place is the aesthetics and vibe. The decor is beautiful and the ceiling is full of greenery. Great for photos! This restaurant is tapa style and the food was delicious. It wasn’t anything overly memorable but still an extremely enjoyable experience and I would recommend visiting. Would recommend the salmon tartare and croquettes. It is often packed so make sure to book a reservation in advance. The wait staff was great and had solid recommendations.

Google
Reyna on King was on my to go list for some time and it did not disappoint. It’s a small place probably 20 tables + Bar. Food was good, service very attentive. My wife ordered a mocktail while I had the whiskey sour. The greek fries is a must try too. Recommended

Reyna on King is an absolute delight! From the moment you step inside, you're welcomed by a warm, stylish atmosphere that perfectly sets the stage for an incredible dining experience. The menu is a vibrant celebration of Mediterranean flavors, with beautifully plated dishes that taste just as amazing as they look. The lamb kofta was tender and packed with spices, the whipped feta was creamy and addictive, and the seafood dishes were incredibly fresh and flavorful. Every bite was a perfect balance of texture and taste. Cocktails were equally impressive—expertly crafted, refreshing, and a perfect complement to the meal. The service was outstanding, with friendly and knowledgeable staff who made great recommendations. Whether you’re out for date night, a gathering with friends, or just craving incredible Mediterranean food, Reyna on King is a must-visit! Highly recommend!

Google
A small, cozy place with very good Mediterranean cuisine. The dishes served are very carefully prepared both in terms of aesthetics and taste. I recommend the seafood, it will definitely not disappoint 😛

Google
Barkuterie!!!!! Yes they do the best happy hour ever here.....a full menu just for dogs and drink specials for the fur parents. The staff is amazing. Daniella makes one of the best margaritas I have ever had. It's tapas style food so you get to try a lot of things. I highly recommend the green chickpea hummus. It is delicious and the grilled Flatbread and tons of crudite they serve with it makes it almost an entree. Make sure you hit this patio before the season ends.

Google
Food was ok, service was good. Good cocktails. Bread to meat ratio was kinda off. (You can sort of see it from the pic. Way more bread than cheese / sauce or meat) Food did end up taking a bit longer than I expected (25 mins) for something as simple as a grilled cheese.

Yelp
Good vibes only at Reyna on King! If you are going for brunch make sure to make a reservation because they can get quite busy. However, the vibes are great, staff are friendly, and the food is pretty good! I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with braised beef and it was so delicious! Also the fruit cup , not sure where they source the fruits but it was so good. I wish they put more grapefruit in it but that's my only complaint!

Yelp
The food and ambiance were amazing. I loved the Greek fries and the avocado toast. The hostess was very friendly and they have free WiFi.

Yelp
This a lovely spot in Corktown that matches the neighborhoods quiet and hip vibe. Staff were attentive and croquettes were delicious.

Yelp
The mushroom Montaditos are worth the trip to this King East gem. The ricotta fritters will make you go back. Everything in between will make you a happy diner in the moment. Hail King Reyna!

Yelp
I am aware that my cocktail tastes are not particularly refined, but I quite liked both drinks that I was served! When my preference had run out, I just told them what sort of taste profile I was looking for and they cooked up a "jungle bird", which I quite enjoyed. And the decor speaks for itself; it was the reason we went and it was delightful. It was cozy and small, not too loud. Great for friends or for a date.

Yelp
Came for brunch after seeing this place on social media. While it is very "instagramable", it is also delicious. My friend and I agreed this was one of our favorite spots we tried in Toronto! We split the baklava french toast and Shakshuka. WOW. I would eat the french toast every day forever if I could. I wish the Shakshuka had more bread but otherwise was wonderful. Good service but took quite a while to get the check which I think it just common for Canada (I'm not used to it!).

Yelp
Brunch: Ambiance: there is no doubt this place is aesthetically appealing & unique. Ceiling covered in greenery, vibrant furniture to match the surroundings. High table tops, bar seating and much more comfortable intimate seating. Its alot smaller than one would assume but they make best usage of the space. Overall a great vibe! Food: tried the salmon board, avacado toast and croquettes madame. The avacado wasnt ripped so that was a bit unpleasant. Otherwise everything else was fairly delicious. Paired the dishes with the greek and Italian fries, these were really thin slice of potatoes and actually were very good. I read other reviews which indicated that the food was not worth the price. I think the portions were decent. Tried a few different mocktails... nothing to rave about. Service: very attentive, the food came in a timely manner. Overall will return to try the dinner menu

Yelp
Kinda lacklustre service, food was kinda pricey. Not terrible, just kinda not worth the money in my opinion.

Yelp
We were here on a weekday. Busy. Great cocktail bar vibes. Our reservation was for 8:30pm so a little later than the usual dinner crowd. We wanted to sit at the bar as we arrived early but no can do. After we were seated service was good even if a bit slow. We ordered tapas style, lamb baklava was the best dish we had, beautifully presented and delicious. Melt in your mouth. Italian fries was another super dish, very stringy and truffle oil is a weakness for me and in aioli form was good as well. Lebanese tacos also tasty, lots going on and a good quantity of chicken filling, perfectly spicy for me ie not too much. The Picana beef I would give a 2 star, as a bit too chewy though good flavour (fig glaze was a nice touch). Maybe we have never had this cut before or it was undercooked not quite sure. We will be coming back for the vibes and to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
This past week was my first trip to Toronto and Reyna was one of my favorite destinations. The ambiance and service was as top notch. The vibe was absolutely perfect. I had the prawns and a few of the smokehouse mezcal cocktails and everything was delicious. Perfect intimate destination for a date night or bar socializing. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! I was drawn into this restaurant because of the beautiful ceiling. They also look like they have great cocktails. They blew my mind! The staff were super friendly, knowledgable and efficient. You could tell they really had a love for food and beverage. We tried four different cocktails and they were all fabulous. My favourite was the mezcal smoke show. Soooooooo perfectly balanced. The food was also out of this world. We tried the Spanish fries with spicy chorizo and Spanish cheese. I love how thin cut their fries are and this is one of those dishes that is so good fresh from the kitchen. We tried to order things that wouldn't travel week as takeout. We also got the cauliflower croquettes. Mmm the spicy mayo was so yummy. Then we tried the lamb baklava which neither of us were expecting a lot from but again, wow! So good! There was a honey mayo and the flavours and textures were unreal. We ended with the halloumi Skewers with housemaid flatbread tomatoes and a delicious Tzatziki sauce. We can't wait to go back. I've been fantasizing about it all day.

Yelp
Great interior and music but food did not match the ambience. Came with my partner for brunch. Shakshuka was decent but bread was stale which is inexcusable. My partner ordered the short rib grilled cheese which was dry and was made with the same stale bread. Their fries are excellent and mimosas delicious. Service was ok; standard for downtown. Worth a try. Undecided if we'll return. Lots of potential and room for improvement.

Yelp
I came across so many tiktoks about this place! I decided to come here for my birthday and the interior is absolutely stunning to take lots of pictures with friends. The food tasted good overall but it is expensive. The portion size is small versus the price you are paying. However, the food is more for sharing. Only the chicken is halal but check with the server.

Yelp
I went here for drinks and bites 3 nights during a recent Toronto trip, and I had great times on 2 of those nights. It was in walking distance from my AirBNB in Corktown and offered a nice alternative to the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto spots. This place felt like a polished yet chill neighborhood restaurant. All of the dishes I ordered were good except for the octopus; the menu said it came with something like "crispy potatoes," but it showed up on top of some kettle potato chips (big let-down). But again, the other dishes I ordered were good. As for drinks, the cocktails were well-made on 2 of the 3 nights I was there. The one slightly underwhelming cocktail experience was on the one night with a reserved (and maybe a tad standoff-ish?) bartender. The bartenders on the other two nights played fun music, engaged patrons at the bar, and sparked conversations between patrons, making the experience enjoyable for all. I'll definitely return during future Toronto trips.

Yelp
Reyna on King was a pleasant surprise, and it surpassed my expectations. We sat on the patio out front, where we were able to enjoy their early 2000's playlist that was playing inside for a fun cool ambiance. With the exception of the calamari which was bland and uninspiring, all of the food we ordered was absolutely delicious!!! Surprisingly I did not miss the potatoes in their version of Patatas Bravas using cauliflower. The Halloumi Souvlaki was the perfect combination of salty, savoury, and creamy. The Spanish fries were out of this world with the melted manchego and chorizo. By the way, the fries were the biggest bang for your buck with a larger than expected portion. The service was great. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I'd love to return.

Yelp
Went to Reyna on King for a friend's birthday and our experience was amazing! Aside from it being quite loud in there, their cocktails and food were on point. I ordered the Rumi's Ol' Passion, which came with a presentation! Our server assembled my drink at our table (you'll have to order it to experience it!) which made the experience all the better. I also sampled my friend's Lamb Baklava - it was quite delicious and unique! Would definitely return to try their other food items and cocktails!

Yelp
I recently returned to one of my fav local restaurants in Toronto, Reyna on King. I love this place for so many reasons! Great staff, service, ambiance and food! Sharing is encouraged to try all of their tasty offerings! They have a unique selection of cocktails including my fav Paloma and the Smokeshow featuring mezcal and tequila Some of my fav dishes are pictured here including the beet and cashew tzatziki, the grilled prawns amazing charred octopus, the halloumi souvlaki cauliflower bravas, and the chicken shawarma platter. Not pictured here but also AMAZING is the lamb baklava which they are known for, in addition to the lamb chops and lamb kofta. So much delicious food ! If you haven't yet tried this place they have two locations both of which are amazing, and you must try to brunch! I love the patio when the weather is nice, and the open windows concept although too chilly for it last night! It does tend to get a bit loud as well as the space is quite small with limited table space, plus the background music, so keep that in mind! Ty for another great night!

Yelp
I went here for a friend's birthday dinner and the atmosphere was very nice. It catered very well to my gen z/ millennial need for an instagramable backdrop. But after that the restaurant kinda fell short. The Greek fries were shredded potatoes with feta, the shrimp was actually really good and the half souvlaki dinner wasn't souvlaki?!? If I'm not wrong souvlaki is chicken skewers and not a half chicken. I feel like it takes away from the juiciness and chard taste of the chicken. Also wasn't a big fan of the lentils that is came with it and I have to mention the pita was actually a tortilla. I get that's it's a fusion restaurant but come on do the dishes justice I am not there to only take pictures of pretty drinks and your plant wall.

Yelp
Great place! Food is excellent, staff and the crowd are nice and easygoing. Highly recommended

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem! The cocktails are original and delicious and all come with a small story. The service was absolutely wonderful. All the staff members were incredibly friendly and attentive and truly added to the relaxed vibe of the place. You can feel right away the love and attention that the owner has injected into this place. Now for the food! No, this is definitely not a weak point! With everything in a snack format, it really makes everything great to pair with drinks and a relaxing place to chill with friends. As everything is reasonably priced and easy to share, everyone can order their favorite dish. I have to say though, if there's one dish that I absolutely recommend that everyone try is the croquette! And for the Instagramers out there, this place is fantastically Instagram worthy!

Tracel L.

Yelp
Super cute and chill neighborhood hidden gem! Loved the vibe during brunch, the bartender was awesome and food amazing!

Yelp
Not sure why this place is rated so low. It's a somewhat still newish neighbourhood spot. We went the first week. The staff and the owner were super nice to us. They let us move from the bar to a window seat once most of our order had come because they knew we had been eyeing the seat. Drinks and food were decent. The portions aren't huge so you have to order a bunch of things, but it's meant to be snacking-tapas style. The baklava and pide were my favourite. The cauliflower was missing something, which we told to the owner. She was really nice and receptive. The space is beautifully decorated. It's not huge, but there's lots of natural light coming into the front - mix of small tables and bar seats. The leafy ceilings are interesting.

Yelp
An urban oasis in the east! Came here on a Saturday for a girl's night. Wasn't sure what to expect with the snack menu (I was a hungry bear) but was so pleased! Lots of vegetarian options and a great selection of mocktails for the non-drinkers in the group too. We ordered the falafel sliders (delicious), the halloumi sticks (a bit salty, but good), greek fries (just what you'd expect), cauliflower croquettes (buttery soft and oh-so-good), and cauliflower bravas (spicy!). I ordered the Blueberry Rumble mocktail which was a great treat since I wasn't drinking, and they kindly kept the sparkling water flowing for me afterwards. The other girls drank wine all night, but we all drooled over the sangria at the next table. The atmosphere is stunning, with a beautiful green plant ceiling, gold details around the bar, and large, open windows to the street. I rarely venture to the east end, but next time I do, it will be to come here again!

Yelp
A great little neighbourhood spot with good cocktails and good food. The menu is fusion, so don't expect it to be authentic, but they offer a good balance of service, ambiance and quality. Makes for a great midweek spot every once in a while.

T N.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Reyna while walking down the street. Although we didn't have reservations, they were able to accommodate us immediately, giving us the best seats in the house! We only had drinks all night, but we will definitely return for some food in the future. The service was amazing- Troy, TJ, and Lacarrie were so kind and lovely. The drinks were tasty (and definitely did its job). Everything from the atmosphere, music, décor, drinks to the service were 5 stars! I highly recommend to come here whether it be a date, a celebration, or a casual meal- you will leave smiling.
google avatar

Chad R.

Yelp
Super great vibe. Beautiful decor. Friendly staff. Great service. Had all 5 staff come to our table over the course. Drinks were fast, food came out quick. Very tasty. Tried almost everything and will be back!
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
Great drink menu, nice snack list, and the servers were great. Little spot with a great energy! Recommend the Halloumi sticks and the Cauliflower bravas to eat. To drink, the sangria was solid - not to sweet but quite refreshing. Go on a nice day, large open air windows make it feel almost like a patio if you sit up front.

Yelp
While take out during covid is not shocking how good this was really was surprising. I ordered a spicy bourbon based cocktail and was wowed by the cute burlap bag it came in and the very nice garnish (orange peel spicy pepper). The short rib grilled cheese is what comfort food on friday dreams are made of and the little shoestring fries held up really well considering delivery etc. The best was of course the lamb baklava which I ate as dessert (for the cute points) as opposed to an app. So yummy highly recommend spoon to get all the sauce and pistachio that it came with. Yummy thanks so much

M K.

Yelp
it was easy to find ! clean and stylish. food was also nice and stuff there were nice too.

Yelp
We got the octopus with fingerling potatoes with a green pesto. The potatoes were good but a bit greasy. There was a lot of octopus. It was a bit slimy and no chargrilled flavour or marks, which make this dish shine. Instead, it was overcooked on the inside with a slimy side on the outside. With DILL as the main flavour. Dill is really hard to pull off on octopus that isn't prepped up to snuff. The dill overpowered the green pesto which was actually delicious. A completely unbalanced dish that I could not eat it was so unappealing. It looked gorgeous but was not good. There were some kind of chips added (about 6) that were basically a reservoir for oil. I think there's a lot of potential here, but this dish definitely needs to be adjusted. Make it solid before you add originality that doesn't work.

Isabel A.

Yelp
I would really had like to give this place a good review but unfortunately I can't because our reservations for Saturday were mishandled by who I'm assuming is the owner. I understand the circumstances of the pandemic so I made sure to contact the King street location as we were reserving for a table of 7 . Though I was informed after 4 days of emailing back and forth with "the owner" that the king street location wouldn't be stepping into stage 3 - over the phone, this afternoon from an employee and not the person whom I've been making arrangements with for the past 4 days. It's kind of hard to believe that "the owner" had no idea that the restaurant wouldn't be stepping into stage 3. These are decisions that are made in advance. Yes I know it's a pandemic and things are just starting to open up and head into phase 3 but I would have liked to have been advised that the Yorkville location was available for reservations and that the king street location has not opened for phase 3. The Yorkville location is now all booked for reservation making this matter an issue when it should have been an easy fix with the correct information. I'm hoping this is all a misunderstanding and hopefully "the owner" and her team can be on the same page. I would hate that another party would have to cancel their plans due to "miscommunication". Good luck and stay safe,

Tim S.

Yelp
First time came just after open - great cocktails, knowledgeable and friendly bartender who whipped up great custom-made drinks for us when we were unsure what to order. Little food bites were tasty though fries were heinously oversalted and over-spiced. But overall a good experience that made me want to return. What gets the low rating is last night. I came in with some friends from out-of-town and the host said it might be an hour but will call us if we left our contact info when anything comes up. They never did. I find that appallingly rude and has never happened before. What's interesting is for some reason I got a vibe we were being judged upon coming in and when we left after given my contact I said "I have a feeling they are not going to call us back ." Sure enough my prediction was correct. If you don't fit say a certain demographic here don't expect a table.

C S.

Yelp
Nice ambience, decent food, bad attitude. The room is beautiful and airy, love all the ceiling greenery and giant open windows. Highlights were the croquettes and halloumi. The fries were sadly a disappointment, they were overfried and hard. Although the prawns in the prawn cocktail were satisfyingly huge, they had that mushy texture that suggested they weren't fresh. Jamon was tasty but sliced too thick. The most frustrating part was at the beginning when we were trying to navigate what my celiac friend could eat. The waitress seemed to have no idea about any of the food, we had to ask multiple times about the same items and she gave us a lot of attitude for it.

Danny L.

Yelp
Beautiful space, and food was flavourful. Would highly recommend the grilled octopus, and Spanish fries!

Digital N.

Yelp
By far one of the best cocktail bars in this city. Always an amazing vibe. With great food, tunes and awesome staff. I cannot wait to come back for a dine-in experience under the lush ambiance.

Yelp
The food is imaginative, the service flexible and attentive. The drinks are fun, the vibe is cool, and Narrissa is the best bartender. Plan to spend time, and a bit of cash. It's worth it!

Maria S.

Yelp
The aesthetic and look of the place is beautiful. The open air windows are the best spot in the place. We got haloumi sticks which had the best shakahuka sauce ever. Also got Greek fries, really good. However, the drinks and service - meh. Honestly the drinks sounded super cool but in reality mine tasted like some cold tea with a splash of vodka. Something I could've made at home. My friends tasted like plain guava juice. Nothing special and honestly disappointing. Our sever was not attentive. Took forever to get her attention for drinks and the bill and she was pretty rude about us moving to the open air table by the window. giving us attitude that we would have to share the table if the place filled up. Which is fine ... since the place is so small sitting at any table is like sharing. Come here and get wine and snacks - saw everyone drinking wine which would've been a good call.

Jamie S.

Yelp
My coworkers and I came in because we heard there was a new spot around the corner. very nice looking from the outside but was greeted by an older lady with a massive attitude she sat us near the kitchen where she then let us know they had run out of several cocktails. And then processed to give her staff as it looked attitude so we ended up not grabbing food had a drink and left! Would never go back her vibe was very negative and the bartender at the time a young girl had no idea how to make their cocktails!

Scott A.

Yelp
Great cocktails and service. The falafel is outstanding! Happy hour specials for $5 on wine and 2 appetizers. Highly recommended and will be back!

David S.

Yelp
The food was fantastic, great service and atmosphere. I little loud for my taste but would definitely go back.

Marla J.

Yelp
Ambience, food, drinks, staff ... all top notch. My favourite place in the neighbourhood. Will be back many times.

Kaitlyn C.

Yelp
Reyna on King is a beautiful new local spot you'll be sure you want to go to. It has an oasis vibe as the ceiling is covered in greenery and the open window concept is amazing. Food and service was great, they were sure to make you feel like you were a regular customer within minutes of being there. The drink menu is super fun as well. Great first date spot or to go catch up with friends, food is tapas style- can't go wrong!

B L.

Yelp
Have been 4 times and last night took friends who were visiting from Minneapolis. They loved it! 5 stars every time. Great vibe for any mood: romantic dinner for 2 or catching up with friends. Great cocktails and food consistent and delicious. Love the Greek Fries and Cauliflower Croquettes. The staff have been great; knowledgeable, responsive and intuitively social. Will definitely return!

Kristina Z.

Yelp
It was a disappointment, I wouldn't recommend this place. They were extremely rude and unprofessional.

L F.

Yelp
Extremely rude and bad service. Would stay far away, would never go back. Avoid like the plague.
