"Black and White Beach The charming coastal town of Vik is a perfect destination on any trip to Iceland . Vik is the southernmost village in Iceland and happens to be the wettest spot in the country. Arguably the best thing about Vik is its amazing beaches at Reynisdrangar. Made from coarse, midnight-black volcanic sand, Vik's beaches are especially beautiful when contrasted against fresh white snow and a pounding surf. The beaches feature unique basalt columns rising out of the sea that Icelandic folk lore says are former trolls who got caught outside at dawn when they should have been inside. On any trip to Iceland, a stop in charming Vik for a walk on its beautiful black-sand beaches is a must!"

Very busy with tourists, if you have the time, just sit down and enjoy people taken by waves by surprise.

It was a bit windy, which was perfect because it made a perfect wave show! Beautiful beach, the landscaping is breathtaking. Very clean. Come earlier or later for less crowds

I was honestly less interested in the standing rock formations offshore than I was in the beach itself, the rock formations and crystalline basalt structures in the cliffside caves and the puffins nesting on the cliffs swopping overhead.

Stunning!!!! But be safe and follow warnings for sneaker waves 🌊! It’s so amazing and one of the most uniquely beautiful locations! There is a restaurant and café located near the entrance. There was also plenty of parking the day we went.

Beautiful area on the south coast. This is where the most beautiful black sand beach is located. There are caves that remind you of scenes from Game of Thrones, and beautiful basalt columns. However, you need to be aware of the deadly sneaker waves. Hey close attention when you are walking close to the shore, as the waves can be very calm one minute and strong the next. There are signs all over warning you of this. However, the beach is gorgeous and one that must not be missed if you are in the area.

Great location in Southern Iceland. Be sure to walk around if you're photographing the sea stacks. They've now removed some boulders so now you can more easily cross for a direct view. The view from up top on the cliffs is nice too. Note that it can get VERY windy here which can cause very large waves, so be careful.

This is one of the tourists hot spots along the south coast a couple of hours drive from Reykjavik. I'm sure it can get really busy during the high season but still well worth the visit to see the beautiful beach and the famous basalt columns. For me it was really interesting to see how nature can create such perfect shapes that look like they are man made. As I said put this on your list, well worth the trip.

A great spot to explore the black sand beaches of vik. Turn left and you get to the cove and the large rocks in the sea. But if you go right and walk for a while you will get to see the arch. The best time to come is as the tide is going out and early in the morning but there are lots of signs warning people about the dangers of the waves. The cafe is nice and serves hot drinks and reasonable food
