The only issue I had was there is no WiFi. Yes it’s an old funeral home but the parlors are freshly painted , bathrooms are clean and stocked for families and it’s decorated nicely. Alice and Shannon were very professional and funny at times which we needed. If you’re looking for funeral directors to guide you through the services , this is not the place. You’ll need to do most of the arranging yourself.

We recently held my father-in-law’s viewing at Ortiz Funeral Home, and our family had a very pleasant experience. We honestly didn’t know what to expect after reading some of the reviews, but our experience was nothing short of positive. The staff was professional and made the entire process seamless during such a difficult time. The funeral home itself was exceptionally clean, peaceful, and well-maintained.

Ortiz Funeral Home is the absolute worst. Their service is horrible. I have never seen a funeral where they leave the body at the church and tell the family members they have close the casket before the service. The lack of care and compassion was the worst I have ever seen. I would NEVER recommend this place. They should be shut down.

They made my mother look like a whole different person . When someone dies I know they don't look the same but they look like they threw old outdated make up that didnt even match her skin tone. She was Caramel and they had her looking like milk chocolate. I'm disgusted they charge so much and cant provide decent make up. RUN

First of all I would like to start with saying thank you very much Alice and the rest of the staff for being so supportive, compassionate and caring during this difficult time of my life. The entire team was amazing, friendly and very caring. I truly appreciate all your help and support.

My mother’s funeral was in May and we had pre planed arrangements here as my father’s funeral was also held here 7 years prior. The planning process was smooth and the chapel held all of our mourners well. My mom was well displayed and there was only a hiccup for the prayer cards which was resolved after a bit of phone tag. Overall a beautiful send off for my beloved mother.

There are other funeral homes in the Bronx, everyone - please look them up. Ortiz has got to stop being our go to for our loved ones. Customer service for my Uncle's funeral was not the greatest. The woman in charge was very cold - when she opened up the room she didn't say a word to me, just dropped the wrong funeral cards and left. When I realized we received the wrong funeral cards, I couldn't find a single employee in this entire place for well over an hour. I had to call the mainline to get in contact with someone and push to get the correct cards that we paid for or find the ones that were lost. I will say a very nice gentleman found them for us - an employee with a Yankee hat (sorry i didn't get his name) who after 2 hours went out of his way to find the cards for us. How on earth is a funeral home in the Bronx being left unattended for any length of time? There was no one there directing foot traffic, checking in on families - nothing. The furniture is torn up, the place wreaks of mold, the lights were flickering through out the ENTIRE service and that red wall paper that I've been looking at since the 80's will make anyone feel like they're walking straight into the gates of h*ll. It was so sad that through out the entire service, anytime something went wrong, someone would just roll their eyes and say, "Well, it's Ortiz". This has got to stop being acceptable. Ortiz - you make more than enough money to update your establishments and give your paying costumers better. Never again!

This funeral home should be closed down. My beloved friend’s family had prepaid for his funeral arrangements many years ago, and they had no other alternative but to settle for this unkept, poorly managed establishment. The person in the office who claimed to be “the person in charge” (EVELYN) should be fired! The first encounter we had spoke volumes about her lack of professionalism and outright rudeness. We asked her for her last name and she mumbled that she doesn’t have to give us her last name. We tried so hard to see beyond her rudeness and oppositional approach, but the day of the viewing I had to give her a piece of my mind. We arrived a 1/2 earlier to set up a video and view the body privately before it was opened to the public. She came out of her office and said how we weren’t supposed to be there till 3 pm, but she was letting us in because we were already there. I told her that the other lady in the office told us to come earlier, and she rudely responded that she’s not the one in charge! I told her that she needed to take that up with her employee and to pls have some compassion for this grieving family. I proceeded to ask why can’t the family view the body privately when that’s the courtesy every other funeral home gives the mourning family members! This was “A First”! I never heard of such a thing. When I told her I would be writing a review about this experience, she tried to “fix herself” a little, but her negative attitude is embedded in her unbecoming personality. Shame on YOU, EVELYN AND THE ENTIRE ORTIZ FUNERAL HOME ESTABLISHMENT! Treat others the way you want to be treated. I hope you read All of the reviews shared in this platform. We’re not done yet! We will be filing an official complaint to the powers that be. No grieving families should experience such unpleasant memories. If I could give it a ZERO rating I would 👎🏼

This place is the worst to say goodbye to your loved one. They are rude, insensitive and don't provide the bare essentials. No PA system, no TV for pictures, no WiFi for Zoom. DO NOT USE THIS FUNERAL HOME. They wake a bad situation, infinitely worse. Zero Stars!

Ever since I was a kid I remember hearing about Ortiz Funeral Home on Southern Boulevard in the Bronx, that's where everyone went for funerals in the local area. I attended a funeral for the first time at Ortiz Funeral Home and driving from outside the city it is nice they have a parking lot available. My first impression was that as old as this place is, it is run down in need of maintenance and updates. A beautiful chandelier at the entrance welcomes you when you first come in, multiple rooms on the first floor and additional space up the stairs which I didn't make it upstairs. What's there to say? They provide a service in time of grievance, it seems the team assigned to the grieving family have very good customer service, but I can't confirm. The limo driver and the person assigned to the grieving party seems like they had it down pack, everything seem to run smoothly as far as I could see.

How horrible!! How disrespectful!! Today..9/12/2021 my beloved family..to he viewed Today at 4pm. And all we are told " the body isn't here..we are running late!" WTH.. its after 5 pm..they will not allow the family inside to sit..oh..there is another body inside waiting inside to be picked up. This is a disgrace! If I would have been allowed to be part of the final arrangements I would have never selected this dump!! Stay away from this funeral home..no respect..considerstion.. wishing could give it a negative star

We didn't get the proper respect that a grieving family deserves. I would not recommend that anyone choose to use them. They were very rude to family members when we asked any questions. Brand new clothes were brought for our loved one and weren't on her. They would not do her hair and put a scarf and old hat on her. So she laid in her coffin looking a hot mess. If you want good service and kindness, don't go here.

My mother and I made arrangements with Ortiz Funeral Home (2121 Westchester Ave Bronx, NY 10462) to view and bury my grandma on February 10, 2021 around 12pm. Full payment was made in cash on February 12, 2021. Ortiz Funeral Home called my mother on February 15, 2021 at 8:56pm and stated they have to cancel the viewing for February 17, 2021 at 6pm because they had received her death certificate and it stated cause of death was due to Covid related complications and no viewings are allowed if the individual dies of Covid. The Spanish speaking woman that spoke to my mother stated a "special" casket was needed. The "special casket" would be sealed and costing an additional $1,400 or if we wanted the "special casket" with flowers for $2,000. The woman said we could go right away to give the money or drop it off the next to any of the girls that work in the office. The woman who called refuse to give her name. When my mother told me about the call, I immediately searched CDC guidelines. CDC guidelines states, " There is currently no known risk associated with being in the same room at a funeral service or visitation with the body of a deceased person who had confirmed or suspected COVID-19 after the body has been prepared for viewing." I also looked on Yelp for reviews and found a similar story. I contacted Bronx New Channel 12 Reporter Anthony Carlo, office of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, office of Assembly Member Karines Reyes and Bureau of Funeral Directing for assisting in the scam that Ortiz Funeral Home was trying to get away with. I received a call from the Bureau of Funeral Directing on February 16, 2021 around 12:30pm stating they received my complaint and to clarify viewings for deceased individuals who died of Covid are allowed. The representative of the Bureau of Funeral Directing also stated no special or sealed casket was needed to bury my grandma. The Bureau had spoken to Michelle Ortiz and stated everything was okay and she spoke to me. I never received a call from her. Representatives from both the office of Assembly Member Karines Reyes and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr called Ortiz Funeral Home and did not receive a reason why the viewing had to be canceled. A representative from Assembly Member Karines Reyes was able to speak to Michelle Ortiz but she had no idea what was going on. Michael Ortiz, director and owner of Ortiz Funeral called me on February 16, 2021 at 1:25pm and immediately asked, "Why did I have to call the state?". He said I spoke to him in person the night before and I told he must be confusing me with someone else. He later apologized for the confusion because he spoke to another Cynthia the night before. Ortiz said he had my grandmother's file in front of him but he named another deceased person. Ortiz stated files must have been confused. However, even if files were confused what the woman told my mother over the phone was incorrect. He said he is a man of his word and would allow me and my mother to have the viewing. Ortiz went on to say he had no idea who called and who would use the phone at that time. Also, he said if I had other issues to contact him directly. The viewing proceeded on February 17, 2021 at 6pm. I noticed the flowers for the casket were not there. I asked the office at Ortiz Funeral Home what happened to the flowers and an employee told me she would call the flower shop. The flowers were delivered and the delivering man apologized for the lateness of the flowers. He stated that Ortiz canceled the viewing so the flowers were going to be delivered to the church service the next day. His statement proved to me even more Ortiz had NO intention of ever having a viewing. They are scamming the community that has help them became so successful. Under unprecedented times, Ortiz Funeral Home has found a way to take advantage of Bronxites with last minute changes and additional fees. This horrifying experience was also feature on Bronx Channel 12 News. I hope NYC Consumer Affairs and the Bureau of Funeral Directing can assist me in making sure Ortiz Funeral Home does not scam anymore individuals in their most vulnerable moment.

Our sisters service was on Monday 09/12/22 , and we are so disappointed with our decision to utilize and TRUST this venue. The service was horrible , our sister didn't look anything like herself , and the director (Michelle) , had no kind of compassion. READ THE OTHER 1 STAR REVIEWS............THEY ARE ALL ACCURATE .

This place is terrible and disrespectful, We went to them to have my sons service, he was brought in on the first day an hour late, along with the family having the service in the room next to hours, then once he was cremated the held on to the ashes for 3 months and claimed they never had them at all, they blamed the delay on the crematorium, once we called the crematorium we were informed the funeral home had picked up the remains 3 months prior. We had to go in to the home to confront the owners and they miraculously found them. I will never go here again, they have coasted serving the Hispanic community for years with shoddy sub par services. Never again.

Be away from this funeral Home!!! We made a pre-arrangement for funeral services for my father. We signed all the documents. After that, we DID NOT receive the bank statements like other funeral homes do. We went personally to the office several times. We called and sent emails to the administrator "Michelle Ortiz" several times. She did not respond or return any of my phone calls or emails. We realized that they did not deposited the money for future funeral arrangements in several moths something that is illegal. They sent us documents and statements barely legible. It looked like a personal account. We could not even read the name and the account number. We requested a transfer to another funeral home, the difference is like a night and day. RG Ortiz Funeral Home is a very SUSPECIOUS business please do not use them for any future services.

Used their service for my mother funeral, good service excellent work preparing my mom for the viewing, we highly recommend them
