My wife and I prefer Bed & Breakfast Inns and have enjoyed many of them over the years. I do all of the upfront research and selection and thought I made a good choice in the Rhett Inn. It was a disappointment. We stayed three nights over New Year's during a cold snap, and suffered for it.
After checking in, we entered our room (at the cottages) and found the inside temperature was 62 degrees, with no instructions provided on how to operate the thermostat. I fiddled with it, thought the heat was on, and we left to visit our friends for dinner. Upon our return, it was still cold, about 63 in the room and dropping to 35 outside. The management had left for the day, so we again tried to adjust the temperature, but nothing worked. We were cold all night and complained the next day. The staff were working on the system in the morning as we left to see our friends, and later we found a space heater in our room, the central system turned off, and no explanation. The central system never worked adequately.
Overall, the Inn was undergoing substantial renovation, which made getting to breakfast in the main house a chore. Breakfast itself was better than a chain hotel, but far below what we normally expect in a boutique Inn. While one expects compromises in a historic structure, the Inn needs work, with grimy windows, paint peeling in places, and suffers from expansion and reductions in quality of service and facilities. Staff was friendly, except the management failed to offer a discount when I complained about the heat.
We wont be returning.
