Where to Stay in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"Situated right at Dam Square on the very edge of the neighborhood, Hotel Rho occupies a gorgeous former Art Deco–style theater; the rooms are a little bland but comfortable and the beds are comfy, and you can’t beat its central location and price point." - Matthew Kepnes

The 8 Best Hotels in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"Located right on Dam Square at the edge of De Wallen, I find this hotel offers simple but comfortable rooms in a gorgeous former Art Deco–style theater; the rooms are fairly large for the location, have a lot of natural light, and good water pressure in the showers, though the decor is a little dated. I sleep well here, and there’s a substantial breakfast buffet plus free coffee and tea in the lobby. I love its central location and price point." - Matthew Kepnes

A great hotel that I found last minute when had to spend one night in Amsterdam unexpectedly. Great service, they have all the facilities you might need. The room could have a brighter lighting though, it was pretty dim, but for me it wasn’t a problem. What was exceptional though, is their breakfast! I don’t remember when I last time had such a versatile choice in European hotels. They have really everything (scrambled and boiled eggs, cereals, pancakes, croissants, fruits, veggies, yoghurt, coffee, tea, juices and much more) and it’s super delicious!! As I said, I rarely decide to have breakfast at a hotel, but here it was even better than in many cafes. Thank you, Rho Hotel :)

This hotel had everything we needed. We liked having the window open, except a few times there were people talking loudly in other rooms. They do give ear plugs. But if the window is closed, you really don’t hear anything.|Location on NES was great. You don’t open onto a busy street but you’re close to everything including restaurants.

Good location heart of the tourist area, close to all places to visit, walk to train station or tram outside door a block away. The rooms are comfortable, they could put bigger bed in room we were assigned but still was nice basic room. A little noisy outside the entrance after hours as it is like a alley entrance to hotel with people walking back to hotels or leaving pubs. But was not terrible.

ery good location. Train station within walking distance. Shopping street very close. Rooms clean, fridge in superior room, old fashioned hotel but very nice. Breakfast quite good. All staff very nice. The woman at the reception at breakfast is extremely sweet and pleasant. (blonde with short hair) But one things is strange. somewone came in the room and leave the tv on. Nothing was taken from us, but very strange.

Stayed for a few nights fort business. Rooms nothing special, bed comfortable. Service great. Lobby intriguing, really special. Location, don't let the WALLEN fool you. Its in a side street, that isn't busy at all. Your in the center of the city while pretty quiet. And, I rate based on value for money. Don't expect perfection.

Great location! We took the train from Amsterdam Airport to the city center and walked to the hotel easily. The hotel was clean, and our room was spacious enough for three single beds with plenty of room to move around without feeling crowded. The staff were friendly, always greeting us and happy to answer any questions we had.||Positives: Excellent location, close to major tourist attractions and shops|Clean and comfortable rooms|Friendly, helpful staff||Not-so-positives: Honestly, nothing negative to mention — it’s a old school hotel & exactly what we wanted/needed.

The staff is so helpful. Beyond expectations. They try to help with every need and are completely successful esp Christian & Esmeralda. Perfect location to get anywhere in Amsterdam including Metro, train and walking. The value and comfort of this hotel is like non other in this city for travelers. Highly recommend. Good WiFi too & delicious breakfast included!

Great location, fair price, and very comfortable rooms. Close to so many great places to eat and drink, walking distance to everything. No A/C, but there was a fan in the room - and an operable window, warm during the day but perfect at night. They stored our luggage for an afternoon after we checked out, and were very helpful and accommodating. There were 2 steps at the entrance and another staircase up to our room, so just be sure to let them know if you need an accessible room. Shoutout to Nomadic Matt for the recommendation!
