Where to Stay in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"Situated right at Dam Square on the very edge of the neighborhood, Hotel Rho occupies a gorgeous former Art Deco–style theater; the rooms are a little bland but comfortable and the beds are comfy, and you can’t beat its central location and price point." - Matthew Kepnes

The 8 Best Hotels in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"Located right on Dam Square at the edge of De Wallen, I find this hotel offers simple but comfortable rooms in a gorgeous former Art Deco–style theater; the rooms are fairly large for the location, have a lot of natural light, and good water pressure in the showers, though the decor is a little dated. I sleep well here, and there’s a substantial breakfast buffet plus free coffee and tea in the lobby. I love its central location and price point." - Matthew Kepnes

The staff is so helpful. Beyond expectations. They try to help with every need and are completely successful esp Christian & Esmeralda. Perfect location to get anywhere in Amsterdam including Metro, train and walking. The value and comfort of this hotel is like non other in this city for travelers. Highly recommend. Good WiFi too & delicious breakfast included!

The location is amazing, the service, competent and friendly, and the rooms were rather comfortable. All in all, good value for money and recommendable. The blankets were so narrow that it took an effort to stay completely covered, and I’m a normal sized person. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Some facilities were old or broken. The AC in our room was leaking out water into the room, the dripping of which kept me awake one night. But they changed our room immediately as soon as I informed them the next day. One faucet was broken and you had to put the pin back in each time it fell out. The faucets were old-fashioned and it was a little bit difficult to adjust the water temperature. The walking noise of the room above was audible and irritating late at night or early in the morning.

Great location, fair price, and very comfortable rooms. Close to so many great places to eat and drink, walking distance to everything. No A/C, but there was a fan in the room - and an operable window, warm during the day but perfect at night. They stored our luggage for an afternoon after we checked out, and were very helpful and accommodating. There were 2 steps at the entrance and another staircase up to our room, so just be sure to let them know if you need an accessible room. Shoutout to Nomadic Matt for the recommendation!

Located central to everything. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms and hotel needs updating. Very tired and worn furnishings . Good hotel if you plan to sleep there and not spend more time than that.

A cosy hotel in the centre of Amsterdam with a comfortable bed. Very friendly staff! I had some Peruvian souvenirs with me and struck up a very pleasant conversation with the Peruvian receptionist and his colleague. This hotel comes highly recommended!

We had a lovely stay at RHO Hotel Amsterdam. We initially had an issue with the first room we were given, but the staff were very professional and quickly offered us an alternative room to move into the following day. The service here is very friendly and helpful, and we could not thank Stella enough for her help with changing our room and making us feel welcomed for the entirety of our stay. Thank you so much again, Stella!

The receptionists are very friendly. The location is excellent. The lighting in the rooms is insufficient. Also, while taking a shower, the water temperature kept changing on its own.

This hotel is right near the main square and has access to many places to eat and see. It also is very close to the metro, which is easy to navigate to the central station. The rooms were very nice and clean, and it was a quiet location. Very nice breakfast as well.
