Dar Maya (Essaouira, Morocco) 8 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Moroccan riad is a hotel genre inherently packed with character — sometimes, if you’re sensitive to over-decorated spaces, a little too much character. Most of them could learn a lot from the tranquil Riad Dar Maya, whose airy, pared-down rooms are a breath of fresh air, both proverbial and literal. From the moment you arrive, greeted with fresh Moroccan pastries and a cool drink, Dar Maya’s soothing, laid-back hospitality begins to take effect, producing an easy calm that seems to wash over the entire coastal city of Essaouira." - Tablet Hotels

A five room boutique riad, managed by Youssef who is charming, going above and beyond to help with whatever queries you may have |The breakfasts are good: eggs however you want them, delicious bread. Fresh orange juice, fresh fruit salad with yogurt, sweet pancakes/a sugary bun (difficult to describe but delicious) and good coffee (or teas of your choice ). However, for dinner I suggest you eat out. The roof terrace is lovely but the sea views are not as spectacular as hoped for. The decor is sophisticated- lots of marble . The bedroom floor is very cold so do take slippers as they are not provided. Dar Maya is ideally placed within the walls and within easy walking of interesting sights, especially the Port. Also excellent restaurants five or ten minutes away.

This lovely little hotel is well worth a stay in an equally lovely town. You reach the riad if you walk the 500m from Bad Marrakech and then straight forward. Cars can't reach anywhere near here. Good breakfast and fast service. There is a jacuzzi on the roof top that you can ask to use (it's included). The room was spacious with a few quirks, like a fully tiles shower/bathtub to which you will have to step into through a small stair or the glass doors into the room (curtains seals off the view). The living room they show on the pictures are a common room on the top floor where you will find books and a place to sit down and relax.

Riad Dar Maya, in beautiful, welcoming Essaouira, Morocco, was a real find. With only five rooms, its is a wonderful place for those of us who like smaller, more intimate properties. Our room and the public spaces had a soothing, minimalist design, which was quite appealing. Everyone on the staff was very professional. The location, deep in the old medina and very close to everything we wanted to see, including the old Portuguese battlements, was ideal.

Big room, comfy bed, calming interior design, quiet, open indoor patio without fountain, and roof top terrace with view of Atlantic Ocean. There was a jacuzzi but we didn’t use this. Within Medina, nice location. Coffee not so great but usual Moroccan breakfast. Heated concrete bathroom floor and heated towel rack.

This is a modern riad, tucked away just off the market. It has been tastefully redone with modern amenities, lots of space in the rooms, and very comfortable beds. They have done a masterful job at maintaining the friendly, relaxed vibe of Essaouria with modern comforts

The hardware, the interior design was better than the photographs. Muted colors, ambient candle lights in the evening, alcoves, deep marble bath, and restrained decor were so soothing, welcoming quiet time to rest, read and write. We felt 'at home'. There is no view to the ocean, but I felt it is better so. It is a sanctuary from whatever is happening outside. ||The software, I felt, needs maintenance and repair. The staff English language, the fixtures like a broken lamp, the pipes which don't drain well, and stained pillow covers... Lacking quality control, manager or owner's presence and ownership when something deviates from the normal operations. ||The hardware is so good, I am letting it go...

Had such a comfortable stay at Riad Dar Maya. Centrally located in the medina, close to the old town wall. A quiet, calm part of town, at this time of year anyway. Everyone working at the riad was super kind and accommodating. Jacuzzi and rooftop were very luxurious and a delightful environment to hang out in the Essauoira sunshine. The interiors of the riad were so stylish, clearly developed lovingly by someone with a great eye for design. An epic breakfast served every morning. Thank you for being such wonderful hosts!
