Riad Dar Zaman, Marrakech, Morocco - Explore & Book

"The taxi dropped me on a main road opposite a narrow cobbled lane which looked, for all the world, like yet another dark dead-end in Marrakech's winding medina. And while it may be a cul-de-sac in the strict sense, a regal wooden door at the end opens to reveal a true haven from the bustle of the outside world. Riad Dar Zaman’s beauty lies in its intimate size (there are just 4 rooms) and its truly personalised service. It also happens to be great value. When Peter, a British former ad exec, first visited Marrakech in 2005 he had no plans to settle, but on entering the calm of the riad it is easy to see why he has stayed. The building - little more than a shell then - has been lovingly restored to emphasise the beautiful pointed arches, white stonework and wrought-iron grilles of the central courtyard, which now provides a perfect space to relax after a day of exploring the madness of the souks. As soon as darkness falls, the riad comes alive in the glow of candle light and warm hues. The 4 bedrooms are stylishly simple and decorated in neutral tones to complement the Zen ambience. Couples on a budget will love it here. Highs Peter and Hassan's warm and attentive service will leave you feeling like you have spent your time in Marrakech with kind and knowledgeable friends An easy 10-minute walk from the main square, and a short walk from some of Marrakech's best restaurants & street food spots – the team will advise on their top picks Excellent value for money, and a pretty and peaceful haven from the busy streets outside. We awoke to nothing but the gentle sound of birdsong Our 3-course evening meal was delicious, fresh and creative, which cannot be said of all in-riad dinners Their cookery classes are brilliant – they include a walking tour of local food markets to buy ingredients, and a lovely meal at the end Lows Finding the riad can be a tricky, but someone will come out to meet you at the main road when you first arrive Bathrooms are quite small, with little natural light; bedrooms are narrow too (as so often in riads) With just 4 rooms, you'll need to book early There's no swimming pool, but a small plunge pool in the courtyard provides relief from the summer heat" - Charlotte Bonsey

We had a really pleasant stay at the Riad. Peter and his staff are attentive and helpful with tips. Also the communication with them before our arrival was fantastic and coordinating diets/airport transport. The rooftop was great to chill on, and breakfast was so nice. The Riad is close enough to the action but not as busy as being TOO close to the central souks, which was perfect for us. Overall, quiet & safe. Would stay here again!

Just returned after a 7 day stay at this fabulous Riad. All the staff made you feel special and because there is only 4 rooms, they are very attentive. We had great individual chats with them all as well as Peter the owner. Special mention to Hassan, Hamza and Adil. Nothing was too much effort for them and they were always on hand to offer local knowledge. The Riad has a great roof terrace to sit and relax. They organised airport transfers and we had a lovely meal on the first evening and wine and beer were available! Would definitely recommend to others.

Visited Riad dar zaman for 3 nights. The location is the old town which is very authentic to Marrakesh, it’s down back alleys & quite hard to find at 1st but don’t tell the locals it’s your 1st visit to the city as they’ll show you the way & insist on you paying. |Our room was very clean, on the small side with a shower & toilet separate (no door for privacy) & a lovely comfortable bed off a lovely terrace. It’s very traditional Moroccan Riad. |Breakfast was really good & Hassan & another young man who served us breakfast were really helpful & very informative probably the best hosts I had on my travels. |The area & alleyways around the Riad was a bit off putting for me but if your after an authentic experience in Marrakesh Riad dar zaman is a hidden gem.

What a gem of a place. All the staff were so welcoming and big thanks to Peter for the chats and Hussan and Adile and the other young man for their excellent service. I had the terrace room at the top and loved it. So quiet. All other guests were friendly. About 15 mins walk to the main square which was a nice walk either through the souks of along the main road. Loved my visit here and would definitely stay again. The food was superb ! Sorry I did not get the Branston and Mature cheese Peter for you. Super place.

My first Marrakesh experience and it was a big success, mainly because of the great hosts of this amazing riad. The riad is beautiful, quiet and has comfortable rooms. Breakfast is delicious. And the staff - Hamza, Adil, Hassan and Karima will do anything to help you and give some great advice and ideas. Highly recommended, and will definitely return.

We had a great day together with Peter, Hassane and Karima at the cooking class. We started with a tour of the neighborhood together with Peter, learning about the lokal baker, cooking traditions and lokal markets before going back to the Riad. The cooking class was very well conducted with simple instructions, and a good variety of a main dish and lokal salads and desert. Thank you for the hospitality! We can't wait to come home and make some delicious Moroccan dishes for friends and family.

This was the nicest day! It was a real pleasure to speak to Peter as he showed us around his neighbourhood, and Karima and Hassan explained their techniques and use of spices for a brilliant lunch. I’ve rarely been made to feel more welcome. We didn’t stay but would do next time as the rooms looked lovely. All in all a fantastic experience.
