Riad Laaroussa, Fes, Morocco - Explore & Book

"You arrive at Laaroussa via the narrowest of alleyways, past donkeys, street vendors, laughing children and stray cats. After pushing aside an ancient wooden door and following a covered passageway, you emerge into a patio of such lofty grandeur that you can only gasp in wonder. This was once the inner sanctum of the annexe to the Mnebhi palace: it later became a Koranic school before being acquired by the Larussa family from Italy, only to be abandoned and forgotten. In the latest chapter of the riad's fascinating history, 2 entrepreneurial French partners rescued the building and rebirthed it as one of the city's most sumptuous hostelries, after an inspired restoration project using the city's finest artisans. Fountains, columns, keyhole arches and ornate tile and woodwork conjure up visions that feel plucked from the pages of 1001 Nights. Bedrooms are regal in size and furnishings, there's an amazing hammam, a lavish courtyard pool and a rooftop restaurant with a side order of city skyline. Highs You're at the heart of the action, in between Bab Bou Jeloud and the Kairouine Mosque The hammam is one of the city's best, with a great team of masseurs and therapists Oodles of exotic and sensual charm, and perfect for a romantic break The pool is a rare treat inside the old medina Stay for lunch and dinner to try out their Med-meets-Morocco restaurant Lows The stairs up to the higher floors and roof terrace are steep; Orange, Green and Gaetan's Room are on the ground floor The laid back atmosphere won't suit those seeking luxurious levels of service Laaroussa isn't cheap by Moroccan standards but is good value when compared with places back home - and the price includes an excellent breakfast" - Guy Hunter Watts

Riad Laaroussa (Fes, Morocco) 7 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Spend a few hours in the raucous, twisting alleys of Fes el Bali — the larger of the two walled old cities in Fes, Morocco — and you’ll understand why riads exist. This traditional Moroccan dwelling solves nearly all the problems of the sweltering, dusty streets with time-tested architectural panache. High, terraced walls enclose a lush courtyard complete with citrus grove and gurgling fountain; the combination ensures refreshingly cool air, privacy, and a contemplative retreat from the pressures of the world at large. Like many classic riads, Riad Laaroussa’s recent renovations (say that five times fast) have brilliantly restored the captivating Moorish visual appeal and storybook construction details of this 17th-century landmark. Slow, majestic, almost preserved in amber, it strikes an expert balance between ritual relaxation and the timeless practice of luxury." - Tablet Hotels

Riad Laaroussa was one of my husband and my favorite places to stay during our 3 week tour around Morocco. What a gorgeous, historic property! The Terrace Suite was luxurious, oozing with character, spacious, very well equipped, and we had a great view from our private terrace. The bed was comfortable with soft linens and good pillows. The bathroom was enormous with a deep soaking tub, large shower, bidet, double sinks and a closet with loads of storage. Towels, robes and slippers were top quality. They offer a very reasonable, quick and excellent laundry service among their many amenities. It was quiet during the day and night, so we slept soundly. We're so glad that we had 3 nights here and would have been happy staying longer.||Service was outstanding. Everyone here treated us with such kind attention and care. We especially appreciated Othmane, who we think is a manager, though all the people working in the riad were delightful. ||Meals in their rooftop bistro were good, especially breakfast. On a very hot day we cooled off in their pool, which is in a peaceful setting with plenty of loungers, sun or shade - your choice. The location in the medina is convenient and they escorted us to dinner at a different riad one night and came back to collect us afterwards. ||We really can't say enough good things about this riad and would stay here again in a heartbeat if we return to Fes.

Riad Laaroussa is a wonderful place to stay and the perfect base from which to explore the magical city of Fes. We stayed for 7 nights in the Gaetan room, and we felt the room, the gardens, pool and roof terraces were even more beautiful than they looked in the photos. Whilst our room was one of the more affordable options at the riad, it still felt very special, beautifully decorated and really spacious, with doors that opened onto a peaceful garden. The riad is so relaxing that it's the perfect contrast to the hustle and bustle of the medina. Our stay was so comfortable that we could have easily stayed longer than a week! The pool is a refreshing treat and was really quiet each time we used it. All the staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent - we particularly enjoy the local breads/cakes at breakfast, and appreciated the excellent range of veggie options for lunch and dinner. The hotel also recommends local restaurants and each of these that we visited was of really high quality. We came to Fes for the Festival of Sufi Culture and it was an amazing experience - would highlight recommend!

Tis Riad is one of the best in Morocco, has an inviting ambiance, we loved the mix of traditional and modern comfort very well done. Location is excellent, also they have staff to pick you up outside of the medina, making easy on transport your luggage. The staff is magnificent, started with Othmane, manager , he went out of is way to make sure that you are comfortable and happy. As well Ghita , Marwa and Hajar by the reception are exceptional. The staff working in the restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack are superb, Fatima, Mustafa, Zack, Mohamed and the rest thank you for such it great service. We had massage by Fatima and Baria excellent!!!!!. and we enjoyed very much the pool We recommend this riad without hesitation.

A fabulously restored Riad in the medina. One of a few with a pool. Has quite a design vibe to it. You won’t go far wrong staying there. Our room (Green Suite) was amazing though slightly blighted by tourists peering through the windows as it’s on the found floor overlooking the garden/central courtyard. Breakfast was OK but a bit samey, with the “fresh fruit” consisting of a meagre few pieces of apple and melon. Think thy could do better bearing in mind all the wonderful fruit available in the medina. Dinner was reasonable quality and we took advantage of eating in for 3 nights rather than venturing out at night. Again menu fairly limited but this is in common with other restaurants generally in Morocco. Alcohol is served which is rarer than I had imagined.||We did have a couple of service issues. I did find it odd that having booked a table for dinner on our first night and spa treatments months before arriving, the manager asked me to move the times of both for reasons that weren’t explained. They did honour the bookings in the end but I was left feeling like I was the one at fault! Then when we wanted to book dinner more spontaneously for the other 2 nights we were greeted with sucking of lips….need to check with the chef etc. We agreed on one night to eat at 6.30 to assist the kitchen but restaurant was quiet. All a bit odd. So if you want to eat in book at the time of room reservation and reconfirm nearer the time!

We are on Day 10 of a tour around the beautiful country of Morocco. We have been fortunate to stay at some lovely Riads but Riad Laaroussa is a cut above . Far and beyond the best experience. In no particular order what was great first and foremost the Staff. They were super friendly ,attentive and accommodating. The kind and professional manager( I believe Omar)organized for me to buy a piece of art I wanted.|The location of Riad in Medina was perfect, The Riad itself was so beautiful and comfortable. The restaurant had great views, food and staff.|I highly recommend a stay here.

OUTSTANDING!!!! To a person the staff were exceptional-- personable, helpful, humorous, anticipating what we might need from shade to a mint tea. The finest staff I have met at any accommodation I've stayed at; they clearly want to make every traveler feel welcome.||Rooms are spacious and unique. There are many smaller common areas to relax in hidden throughout the Riad. The rooftop is a fabulous place to relax, enjoy breakfast, an afternoon lemonade and dinner as the sun sets. The Hamman was excellent. I cannot imagine a better place to stay while in Fez.

our day here was without a doubt one of our best during our 3 weeks in Morocco. the staff are incredibly respectful and perfectly engaging, the food is delicious and well presented, the spa and hammam is a terracotta dream and the riad itself is subtle, natural luxury Zaack was our lunch server and made me some tea from the garden, he was professional and charming and provided excellent service. Our massages were by Sarah and Loubna and we can absolutely reccomend them. Did not get the names of our Hammam women but they were also top notch. the day pass here is without a doubt the best way you can spend your money in fes, thank you! p.s. they are also aware of gluten sensitivities and have gluten free bread!

Booked a hammam with massage (1.5hrs in total). |This was our First time trying hammam. Not use to the heat but our body adjusted after several minutes of being inside the heated marble room. |Massage was good and pressure was perfect to my liking. Hope it was longer. |After our treatment we went upstairs for complimentary green tea. Great view of the medina. |We decided to have a light meal - grilled calamari and fish of the day. Tasted great! |Will do it again when we return to Fez
