I recently stayed at Riad Tizwa during my first visit to Morocco, and it was a truly beautiful experience. From the outside, the riads in the Medina appear as imposing, windowless walls defined by a dense maze of narrow alleys, creating an intimate yet chaotic ambiance. However, behind the massive, ornate wooden doors—designed for security and privacy—lies a peaceful sanctuary.
Riad Tizwa’s entrance opens into a stunning central courtyard adorned with intricate tiling and highly detailed cedar-carved doors, offering a calm, private oasis away from the bustling Medina streets. As an architecture enthusiast, I was genuinely impressed by the blend of fortress-like exterior and elegant interior design.
The rooms were perfectly accommodating—clean and comfortable. Although the beds felt firm when sitting, they were surprisingly comfortable for sleeping. I especially appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the variety of shower soaps available. Mornings spent in the charming breakfast area were delightful, sharing strong coffee, fresh orange juice, yogurt, fruit, and a selection of breads while chatting with fellow guests.
Merieme, our warm and welcoming host, provided helpful insights about Fez’s layout and recommended excellent vegetarian cafes and local spots to explore. Her beautiful scarves and cheerful demeanor made us feel at ease, allowing us to relax and recharge after the city's lively chaos before heading out on excursions.
Overall, Riad Tizwa offers a perfect blend of traditional Moroccan architecture, comfort, and genuine hospitality. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Fez.
