Ricci's serves top-notch Italian food. Their pizza is of particular note, given that Rochester suffers from a dearth of quality sit-down pizza joints.
That being said, if I were being kind, I would rate their "customer service" as sub-par. My father and I popped in there this evening (a Tuesday) at approximately 9:32pm, looking for a late dinner after doing some holiday shopping. The posting on the door clearly demarcates their hours of operation terminating at 10pm on Monday-Thursday; as a former food service professional, I understand that the later it gets, the less enthused one becomes to serve new guests. However, I also understand that if you clearly state that you are open until 10, you stay open until 10 and you feign a hospitable attitude whilst doing so!
There was at least four tables enjoying or waiting for their meals; there was also at least five patrons sitting at the bar. When we approached the hostess stand, one younger employee motioned for an older employee, presumably her superior and presumably someone in a supervisory capacity. The older broad approached us and said "Mmmm, I think we just finished." Just finished what, we inquired. "Finished serving food. Sorry," she said, not sounding sorry in the least. We pointed out that the hours on the door indicated that they should not be done serving food for another 28 minutes, in which time we could easily order and consume our pizza, but she reiterated that they were no longer serving food and waited for us to see ourselves out, which we did....never to return.
I really appreciated Ricci's as the go-to restaurant for a sit-down experience with traditional, hearty pizza, but I guess now we will have to take our business to Pontillo's on the Ridge.
