Unfortunately, I have to give this place 3 stars because it’s hit or miss. We love the Osmanthus cake, but it has to be eaten fresh—don’t keep it overnight or it loses its texture and flavor. The durian and mango mochi are also really good, but again, best when eaten right away. On the other hand, we didn’t like the soybean glutinous rice cake it was hard and too dry. The black kernel rice cake was also disappointing. And this isn’t based on just one try; we gave both a few chances, hoping they’d be better. That said, we’ll continue to come back for the things we do enjoy!

The first time I came here I was quite disappointed. The mochi was very hard. I decided to give it a second chance since my first visit which was a year ago. So this time I got the mango mochi, osmanthus drink, and the soybean mochi. I’d say the soybean mochi is my fav, the mochi is a little dense and too thick, but the soybean flavour is good. The mochi was a bit watery so I’m not sure if the mango was going bad for it to be watery (it was really ripe), and the osmanthus drink was just unpalatable. It was bland and slimy. To sum it up, I don’t think I’d come back.

After dinner, we got some bubble tea, and still looking for some dessert. We decided to try some Mochi. Red bean mochi rolls r sold out already, but we tried a strawberry Mochi, taro-yam Mochi, and fruits covered sugar. They r not too sweet, and Mochi was very soft and chewy. Pretty good.

Google
There were many options for rice cakes, such as black sesame, red bean, soybean, osmanthus etc. There were also fruit mochis, and we got the mango mochi. We didn’t realize the mango was frozen, so when eating it the mango was crunchy with ice crystals, and it wasn’t the best. The soybean mochi we also got was better and was very soft. It tasted a little like peanuts.

Excellent staff but what I had this afternoon was rough - both the osmanthus and oreo rice cakes were dry and had the wrong chew…maybe they were a tad too old or maybe it’s the heat wave? We both had them seconds after walking out the store though. The red bean glutinous rice cake was decent. Perhaps I will give the other items a try in the future.

I came by here to try out the new Vancouver Fall Food Festival offerings and I got: Redbean Glutinous Rice Cake Mango Mochi Strawberry Mochi Cake Sando Mango Mochi Cake Sando The Strawberry Mochi Cake Sando and the Mango Mochi Cake Sando features charcoal powder cake ‘slices’ filled with cream, fruit and a thin layer of mochi. I am a huge fan! The cake is so soft and moist, and the fruits are so sweet and plentiful. The thin layer of mochi adds a great chew. This is such a unique and delicious item.

🍡 RICE CAKE MASTER 🍡 Rice Cake Master is a mochi shop that has been around for years. Specializing in steamed and glutinous rice cakes, you can find a variety of traditional flavours. I personally really enjoyed the steamed Osmanthus Rice Cake. The light floral flavour was super refreshing, and the chewy but firm texture of the rice cake was right up my alley. Their Black Blean Glutinous Rice Cake was my second favourite. It was so chewy and stretchy, perfect for people who love that chewy soft texture (糯叽叽). They have a ton of new menu items like Snow Skin Cake, giant fruit Daifuku, and mochi cakes.

We were just passing by and decided to check this out. We weren’t planning to buy anything but my 3 year old saw this strawberry and cream mochi dessert so we tried it. It was good. Not too sweet and good balance between fresh cream and mochi and short cake with strawberries. It wasn’t busy on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. They have seating for about 10 total. A person came in after us and ordered 6 of these in different varieties for a party.

Yelp
This is a cute spot that we were recommended by a friend who comes here often. It's tucked into the Continental shopping center, with lots of other spots nearby, and so an easy stop off for dessert, say, after lunch or dinner. They have a very few savory items - for the most part it is sweets that include mochi. We don't know if we ordered wrong - we gave the numbers & letters associated - but ours were two mochi balls dusted with peanut dust and not the long taco-looking version in some of (most of) the photos. Past that though, they were very good. Just enough combination of mochi and the flavor, in this case peanut. We did have a slight criticism of the packaging - the lids are not all the way on (there is an "envelope" of sorts that goes around the package so that keeps the lid on, or at least that's what it did for ours); also, as far as the candied fruit, some research could be done on how to best package those - ours was spattered with juice on the outside of the filmy cover and THEN the filmy cover itself was broken into a hundred pieces that took forever to remove before we could eat the fruit - the fruit was delicious - very refreshing; just a very messy experience. I kept hoping the filmy cover was edible because I couldn't otherwise figure out the choice that was made to use it for this item. On that other hand, VERY happy to find a place that sells the fruit as I haven't had any in years. The service was indifferent, I'd say; the décor was cute and clean.

Yelp
I visited Nam Dae Moon Rice Cake recently and I loved everything I tried! I'm a huge fan of mochi and I loved how much variety they had! Everything is the perfect chewy consistency and isn't too sweet either which makes it perfect for Asian families Strawberry Mochi Cake Sando (11.99) Red Bean Glutinous Rice Cake (7.99) Osmanthus Rice Cake (9.95) Caramel Lotus Rice Cake (Winter Special) Salted Oreo Cream w/ Ferrero Mochi (5.99) Black Sesame Milk Mochi Cup (3.99) Follow me on Instagram @angelanomz for more!

Yelp
This tiny shop is tucked away on Cambie Road next to CoCo Fresh Tea. There are a variety of different flavor glutinous rice cakes to choose from. I purchased the Osmanthus and Chestnut & Date cakes. The texture of the cakes is quite chewy and soft, yet dry. The cakes taste best when they're fresh and hot, which I recommend coming early to buy. I'm not a fan of these glutinous rice cakes, as I prefer sweeter desserts. I wasn't able to try the mochi, which I would be interested in returning to try along with other items on the menu.

Yelp
This is literally the place to go if your a mochi lover! And best part they have a few locations now! * Taro with meat floss glutinous fried dough ($7.99) ~ ok this was bomb. The meat floss paired so well with the mochi and fried dough. I didn't particularly taste the taro I wish it was more prominent but the meat floss and fried dough is bomb combination! 8.5/10. * Salted egg yolk and dried meat floss sweet green mochi ($6.95) ~ probably my favourite thing. It was so chewy and the salted egg yolk tasted soo good with the meat floss this combination was the perfect savoury item here! 10/10. * Strawberry mochi cake sando($11.99) ~ super soft bread with delicious strawberry cream the mochi was chewy and good. The strawberries were also sweet I wish they had more pieces of strawberries throughout the cream. 8/10. * Soybean glutinous rice cake ($6.99) ~ the soy bean powder was very prominent and made the rice cake a bit dry. But the soy bean was super fine and delicious. Loads of it though so prep yourself with some liquid! 7/10. * Yuzu mango icecream ($6.99).~ soo refreshing! The mango and yuzu paired so well with the icecream and mochi layer! 9/10. * Matcha Mochi cake taco ($12.95) ~ soft and chewy. The taco was a bit grainy for my liking but I liked the strawberry and matcha combo. 6.5/10. * Oreo chocolate lava rice cake ($9.99) ~ super chewy and firm. The chocolate lava was nice I wish there was more chocolate. 5/10. * Mango mochi ($5.99) ~ super chewy mochi and tasted good. I wish there was more mango to it. 6.5/10. * Osmanthus sea coconut & pear tea ($6.95) ~ collagen heaven! It was loaded and delicious I like that it's not sweet. 8/10. * Overall it's a mochi heaven! Good consistently in mochi throughout all their products

Yelp
It was interesting to see a Korean business making mochi, since I associate mochi with Japanese desserts. We tried a Mango and Strawberry mochi, and the Chocolate & Matcha Mochi Cake Tacos. The mochi was extremely soft and fresh, and everything was light / not overly sweet. The desserts were the chewy consistency you'd expect from mochi.

Yelp
Nam Dae Moon is amongst one of the few latest hyped-up must-visits in Richmond's ever changing food scene. Word on the street is they are bringing the infamously delicious Korean rice cakes over from their Toronto location. To no surprise, hype is hype, one can only expect them to be near sold out of almost everything in the store, the remaining items (a strawberry daifuku & a cute pack of dates+almond nougat) is what we opted for. The forewarn is my expectations for their mocha / mocha-related items are HIGH. The strawberry daifuku looked adorable, it tasted fresh, made the day of given its incredibly soft outer texture, but did not hold up after a bite in. I'm starting to think the indoor dining restrictions worked in the shop's favour because there is no way this item would/could've been consumer in any clean manner possible - the whole filling basically disintegrates once a puncture is made to the exterior skin, there is little to no structure whatsoever. IMO - a disastrous experience is bound to mask any great flavours that may have otherwise been the highlight of the show. The dates with nougat is exactly what the name suggest - its is a rather large dried date (jujube), pit removed, and replaced with 3 pieces of whole almonds, and rolled in milk powder. The first bite in resulted to a bug question mark - it's salty? like fairly salted. In my mind, this is a dessert, a sweet snack, nowhere did I think it would be a savoury item, I suspect its from the milk powder alone. There a lot of rough texture in one bite - theres the saltiness of the outer coating, the sharp dried skin of the dates then the crunchy bits of almonds. This is a nice and different offering for sure, though it's definitely a one biter for me, this is not an item I'd make a return trip for. I'm still hearing & reading great reviews of Nam Dae Moon and their most popular rice cakes - my review currently does not do it justice, it is a mere review of the only remaining items available at my time of visit. I'm keen to update the post once / when I make a second visit.

Yelp
There are not many Korean snacks that you can find in town. We found Nam Dae Moon Rice Cake 南大門米糕 serves Injeolmi ( Korean Sweet Rice Cake). We deeply miss traveling the countries and tasting the traditional food, so we ordered some new food. Pictured: Osmanthus Rice Cake 桂花糕 Oreo Chocolate Lava Rice Cake 奧利奧巧克力流心米糕 Sesame Glutinous Rice Cake 黑芝麻年糕 They were freshly handmade every day, and they were not overly sweet. It was fun to try! Comparing the three items that we brought, we liked the Oreo the most. It had the chocolate filling inside and topping with a mini oreo cookie. Located in the Continental Shopping Centre, #2132- 3779 Sexsmith Road in Richmond. Food: 3/5 Can Try! Service: Takeout Kids: 3/5 A-OK for kids. Price: $20-$30 for two (3 packs of rice cake) Presentation: 1/5 Parking: 3/5 Tips: * can check with the staff for seeking recommendations if it's your first time to try their items. * have a variety of flavours to choose from their menu. * can call to pre-order your items. Would I Return: Maybe

Yelp
Red bean glutinous rice cake $7.99: Not a red bean fan but it was surprisingly decent cause the red bean flavour was pretty subtle. The mochi was chewy and there's a good amount of filling however it wasn't consistent for every cake. Oreo chocolate lava rice cake $9.99: Eat this within 2 bites to get EVERY flavour. The cake part itself is bland & dry, and the texture was kinda like a sponge cake. When you eat the cake part with the chocolate filling & oreo you can get a mix of soft, smooth and crunchy textures in one. I recommend eating these on the day you buy them since it will be fresh! The next day you'll prob be eating stiff rice cakes.

Yelp
This was recommended by an instagram influencer that I follow, so I had to try it out. They are a new place that just opened up that specializes in Korean rice cakes. We orders the Oreo and the "no.1" fave: red bean. Both rice cakes were fresh and warm which I felt enhanced the flavor and textures of the rice cake. The red bean is a glutinous rice cake coated with red bean with a filling in between. I wouldn't recommend this if you don't like that red bean (azuki) flavor. It's pretty much that with a chewy mochi texture. I enjoyed it because I like red bean and I like mochi. It isn't sweet either. I felt like having it warm made it better. When I ate the rest that i brought home, it wasn't as appetizing cold. The Oreo was my husbands favorite. This one came out extra warm and the chocolate filling oozed out at every bite. The rice cake was a bread like texture which was a better texture for my husband rather than the mochi. I would return to enjoy this dessert again.

Yelp
It is suppose to be a Korean style rice cake shop but I felt it was more Chinese inspired than Korean. We got the soybean rice cake and a coconut and pear tea. The rice cake was not too sweet and had plenty of soybean powder which was nice. It was not too chewy and had a nice texture. The coconut and pear tea was not bad but I felt a bit overpriced at $7. Overall, a decent place for rice cakes and I would recommend visiting if in the area.

Yelp
New Korean style rice cake shop in Richmond. Soft opening today on April 24th, 2021. Definitely a good option of specialty dessert shops in Richmond. Rice cakes are freshly made daily and all handmade Daifuku/ mochi. They opened at 12pm and we arrived at 12:10pm. It was already a big lineup and sold out most of the items around 12:40pm. They are very friendly and came out to notify customers. They also handout their special drink for people in line. We have got something to try today: * Osmanthus Rice cake ($9.95): nice freshly made rice cake with bouncy texture. The sweetness is very light that came from the osmanthus sugar. * Chestnut & dates Rice cake ($7.99): very fragrant rice cake with small pieces of dates in it. Taste like brown sugar rice cake for me, but maybe it's because of the Chestnut? * Purple sweet potato & Red bean Daifuku ($5.49): the mochi skin is superrr soft and nice chewy. But I find mind does not contain much red bean in the filling but mainly sweet potato. Anyway, still very good Daifuku, just a bit pricey. * Taro & Dried meat floss mochi ($5.99): again, superrrr soft and chewy mochi skin. Love this item the most as their taro filling is sooo good! Please give it a try if you like taro. Hopefully we can get to try other items when they're not that busy or increase the production.

Yelp
I can only speak to the osmanthus rice cake which is was too much rice and wasn't sweet enough to balance out the carb. Is it unique though? Yes. Could it be a lot better?HECK yes.

Yelp
Yes, this is the new "hot spot" in Vancouver, but is it worth the hype? The rice cakes were not overly sweet, it seems that the sweetness comes from the natural ingredients, The different rice cake flavours were true to its "flavours". Also, the rice cakes were very fresh tasting. There were a variety of flavours to choose from, I've tried four different flavours. 「 Chestnut and Date 」Sponge-like rice cake had a chewy texture, along with bits of chestnuts and a natural sweetness from the dates. This one was had the most sweetness compared to the rest. You definitely have to eat this one right away because it gets dry as it cools down. 「 Black Bean 」This one is a glutinous rice cake and it was the most moist compared to the rest. I actually really enjoyed this one, it had a sticky/chewy texture and the black beans added sweetness. 「 Red Bean 」This one is also a glutinous rice cake, it has a firm/chewy texture, not as moist. It had sweet potato in between the rice cakes, it somewhat overpowered the red bean flavours. I didn't mind that because we also like my yam 「 Sesame 」Also a glutinous rice cake, but I would only recommend this one if you LOVE black sesame. Chewy texture, but also somewhat dry because of the amount of black sesame powder, the rice cakes were literally COVERED in black sesame. It had VERY strong black sesame aromas and taste. Overall, I recommend giving it a shot, but it's undecided if I will go back for more. I went on a Tuesday afternoon around 1pm, the line was about a 5 minute wait; however, they were already sold out of a few flavours after being opened for an hour. ---------- PRICE|$$ 。$7.99 Chestnut and Date 。$7.99 Red bean 。$7.95 Black Bean 。$5.99 Sesame

Yelp
Cute place for rice cakes. Mochi had a nice texture and the filling was ok- I was expecting it have more fruits but it had a lot of whipped cream.

Yelp
After having watched a lot of Korean travel videos recently, I've been craving Korean food and treats like mochi/rice cakes. This shop opened a while back but we haven't had the opportunity to try it until today! We ordered the soybean, black sesame, and Oreo rice cakes. The texture of the rice cakes was unexpected. It was quite dense with a ton of topping. Once I ate it, I found it dry and tough to eat. It required a lot of chewing and my mouth was full of powder. Also be careful when eating because it can get messy! The rice cakes also weren't very flavourful. My boyfriend tried the Oreo flavour and said it was average (and not worth ~$10). The mochi is so filling that it can be an entire meal itself! Overall, we enjoyed trying this place and they do have some creative mochi choices. However, we don't think our experience was memorable enough for us to return.

Yelp
The interior is lovely and beautiful to step in. However, the rice cake itself is debatable. I'm not quite sure if I would visit again as I found the rice dessert to be quite plain. I would consider myself a big fan of injeolmi soy bean but the glutinous rice mochi had no taste amidst the powdery soy bean dusting. The soy bean powder texture & portion was a bit too much, and I felt like I had sand in my mouth. Both the rice cake & soy bean were unflavoured / unsweetened, which made for a bland snack. The Oreo steamed rice cake is alright as well. I'm not a fan of the spongy cake texture with the chocolate centre. It was just alright.

K L.

Yelp
I had the Osmanthus Rice Cake and the Taro/Pork Floss Mochi. Their rice cake is very unique and not like your typical rice cake. At first glance it looked like a soft pillow cloud. It has the texture of grounded cooked rice, it's very firm and chewy which I enjoyed. It has no taste, just a teensy b sweet, but I think if you purely just like rice you'll like this. Osmanthus Rice Cake: a tiny bit of osmanthus gel at the top centre and the rest was rice cake. Not much of a point adding the "osmanthus" in there since it was practically non-existence. Each piece is quite filling to my surprise, because it's so dense. Taro/Pork Floss Mochi: the mochi skin is sooooo chewy that you can pull it up so long and so high. The filling is mashed taro with pork floss mixed together and it was very yummy. Very generous of the amount of filling. Overall, the price is still high for what it is and I probably will never go out of my way to buy it. However, if I received this as a gift I would very much enjoy them.

Yelp
The food is not authentic Korean here but it is inspired by a lot of traditional rice cake making methods from Korea, China and Japan. I don't know why people are so stuck with being a purist. I have been here a few times. I used to enjoy the red bean glutinous rice cake the most, but my new favourite is seasonal pumpkin one. I like it not so sweet so that I'm able to enjoy the aroma of rice.
google avatar

Shinya K.

Yelp
Didn't like that much. I prefer the red bean rice cake from Fujiya. Just you know this is Chinese owned.

Junseon C.

Yelp
If you expect Korean style, it is not. If you Chinese style, it is. they can not said Korean style, but only shapes and brand name. They use different rice, something Chinese typical rice with small. if you are Chinese or Tianwanese Hongkong, you will like. If you are Korean or looking for Korean style flavour, it is not. Anyway, it is not Korean style, unlike their brand and said Korean style.

Patricia P.

Yelp
I went in for the cute character and the hype and I was not disappointed. As a Korean, it's hard to find places that do rice cakes right. This is the place!
