Richard's Fish & Crabs

I haven’t been to Richard’s since before Covid. Last time I went, they were still at the old gas station building. I stopped in because I saw a special for $1 crabs. I’ve seen it pop up now and then, but living 30 mins away, it’s wasn’t a oh, let me stop by and try. But this time I did. The old place was always clean, but being inside this building, it looked spotless. The young lady working there was very pleasant. The crabs were super hot, when I looked in the bag. Getting them home, I tried them. The size and weight of the crabs were exactly what I was expecting for $1 crabs. The only thing about these crabs were they a bit bland. Not sure where these crabs are from, but IMHO, they would have used a bit more salt in the seasoning.

Always love coming here for seafood when we're in the area. Food is fresh & delicious. Workers are friendly. Restaurant is clean. We showed up and ordered to eat there, but it seemed like most people preferred takeout. They swapped out hush puppies for the fries which I greatly appreciated! Seafood was cooked & seasoned perfectly, and the hush puppies are amazing. Nothing really special about the location/atmosphere. 5 stars because the place is very clean, but minus 2 because the inside mostly looks like a seafood counter with tables & the lighting is that white, bright light. Inside and outside seating is available. Highly recommend if you're in the area and want some seafood and want to support local!

I walked in. It was a short line, but someone walked over and asked if I had been helped and if I was ready to order. I ordered a half dozen of medium, today it was about $15, and they gave me 7 crabs. Every last crab was meaty and medium. It was only a 15mins wait for a walk in order. The next time I will get a dozen for myself because I wanted more. They were still warm when I got home, so that was nice. They were seasoned well! My daughter ordered crab fries, she loved them. They give you more than enough crab dip on the fries, cheesy goodness. They were pretty good to me (not the best ive ever had but theyre good) Overall, it was a good choice to go to Richard's Fish and Crab for my dinner.

There is very limited room to sit so mostly customers came in to either order or pick up orders. The prices seemed reasonable. I like the fact prices displayed included to sales tax! I ordered fried haddock. It didn't have much taste. My husband ordered crab cake and macaroni and cheese. He said it was very good.

My husband and I stopped by on one of our day rides and we got a fish sandwich it was great we loved it , we have been there a few more times, we had French fries big portion also, only thing is they put a lot of salt and alot of seasoning on fries so if you do not want a lot you need to tell them when ordering . While we were waiting for the order there was people coming and going they have other things besides fish.

Tried this shack for the 1st time. It is always slammed, so obviously a good sign. The family tried an assortment of food. Probably the best shrimp and crab I've had in MD. Hush puppies and potatoe salad was great! Give them a go if you're in the area.

Tl,dr: Great hole in the wall type of place with tasty seafood that's only a bit on the pricy side. Get the crab cakes and the soup. So I had been long overdue for a weekend getaway and when the opportunity came up, I picked Maryland to be The state I poke around in. Being from Philly, it was about an hour and a half to Bel Air, right over the Delaware border, but I have to say that this place got my trip off to a great start! I ordered a crab cake sandwich with coleslaw ($13.50), an oyster sandwich ($11.50), a clam strip basket with fries ($6.50) and a bowl of their creamy crab soup ($7.50). I was expecting to eat parts of everything and save some for the evening, but I ended up eating most of it on the first sitting :) The crab cake was cooked perfectly. Great crisp on the outside, flavorful moist and sweet. The coleslaw paired with it nicely and was light on the mayo, which I appreciated. The oyster po boy was delicious! The oysters were fresh and had that great brininess that you crave in fresh seafood. The breading wasn't too heavy. I probably would have liked it even more if it were a little more crunchy. The clam basket was tasty as well. The clams were a little bit forward on the breading and there weren't that many of them, which was a bit disappointing. They did give a very generous portion of fries though. The soup was wonderful! Creamy, sweet, and rich in flavor, this soup, if paired with the crab cake sandwich and cole slaw probably would have been a complete meal for me had I not been starving :) Overall, I'd come here again and recommend it as a hidden gem, but being from an hour and a half away, I might not make the trip back unless we were heading down here anyway.

Found Richard's on my epicurean tour of Maryland this spring. The crabcake was only middle of the road. It wasn't bad, but wasn't a "jumbo lump" cake. HOWEVER, at $11.99 for a 4 oz crabcake, with seasoned fries, I will order it again. The fish and chips were a pleasant surprise. No frozen Mrs. Paul's here. Freshly breaded flaky white fish fillets (3) served atop seasoned fries satisfied a long running "jones" for that meal, which had gone unfulfilled until our stop there. The Maryland Crab soup was good, not great but good. I probably would have rated it higher had I not just eaten the amazing crab soup at the Bayou in Havre de Grace only days before. Again, I'll order this soup again. I really liked that I was able to order crabs in any quantity I wanted; I didn't want a full dozen so they sold me six. And I got them on special that day for $2 each. Score! Here's a cool special. Every Sunday evening beginning at 5, certain sized get prices slashed. It varies every week depending on what they have lots of. If you can wait until Sunday, score some big discounts. But be prepared. This is no Old Bay they are using. It's a really spicy crab spice they use. Have plenty to drink standing by. They also have a pretty decent seafood market inside this converted gas station. Yes. Gas station. Interesting reuse of unused real estate which is normally tough to sell. Plenty of parking, easy to find (look for the BRIGHT yellow signage), and a friendly, helpful young staff. Richard's. Worth the trip (and we came over from Delaware).

Stopped for lunch recently and had to try the soft crab sandwich! Let me tell you, from my lovely girlfriend, she was all in my ear about them having the best soft crab sandwich!! And this was my first!! The sandwich was huge! Holding 2 deliciously fried to perfection Maryland Soft Blue Crabs! The sandwich was absolutely delicious, and we had some great sides with it! *shrimp macaroni, broccoli salad, and potato salad. We also had some hush puppies and crab dip egg rolls. Service was great, and though you can eat there, we ordered online and got our food to go. They have many other fresh seafood options! Give them a try if you haven't We'll definitely be back!

Way too expensive. Not enough variety. Borderline unclean. I won't be going back. Plenty of other like places.

This place is near my job and I love finding new crab houses. So I decided to try them and they are now in my top 5! The crabs are always heavy and steamed to perfection! The food is good too except the crab egg roll. The staff is always friendly. They have TVs up while you wait and they have a few tables for you to sit and eat.

This is my go to spot for their seafood box and steamed crabs to take home. We've never been disappointed. They have daily specials they advertise on Facebook as well.

Very fresh fish. Big thick cuts of haddock and cod. Clams strips are very good. Any of the sandwiches are very good. Parking is sufficient. Service is speedy. Price is reasonable for seafood. Not really suitable for dining in. It's more of a take out spot.

Richards has about the best crabs around. I will say, a lot of that has to do with their seasoning. The staff has always been polite, kind and very helpful. I have always loved their potato salad. However, a few weeks ago when I had family over for a Sunday afternoon meal, I ordered a pint of their potato salad. I am thankful that I didn't order a quart (which I usually would). For the first time ever I was very disappointed in the potato salad! The potatoes were quite firm which basically ruined the salad! I have decided I will try it one more time in case it was just a "one-off". If it doesn't measure up, I will be looking for a new favorite potato salad!! Update to follow!

Drove up there today and ordered Crab Cakes with cold slaw and fries. Bottom of both Crab Cakes were burnt, no taste. Won't be going back again. They use to have some ofthe best crab cakes at the old spot. Guess they don't care anymore!!!!

Some of the better wings I've had in a long time. I ordered the Bay Box special , and I would do it again. The fries and shrimp were also very delicious. Service was timely and prompt, and I was reassured that I would be getting fresh, hot food. The atmosphere was amazing. Very clean establishment. I would highly recommend Richard's if you're in the area looking for seafood.

We ordered min dock, mini shrimp sandwiches, they were amazing! We also had crabs, fried oysters, and fried clam strip basket. They were so fresh and very delicious. We will definitely come back next year to try more things when my daughter has Rose meet again!

This crab shack recently moved from their nostalgic location to a newly built small strip mall. You don't have to look too far, as it is right down the street next to the liquor store. I loved the old location, but I know the new building gives them more space for customers. There are now tables to eat inside as while as a picnic table outside. For years, I've been coming here for crabs and deviled eggs. I also enjoy the bay box which has shrimp, wings and fries is priced great for the amount of food you receive. If you are looking for something other than crabs, the seafood box (clams, mussels and shrimp) is great for groups. Whenever I come, the staff is always helpful and kind. Call ahead for crab availability, especially on holidays and weekends!

Great steamed crabs every time! The customer service is great, and the new location looks awesome! Try the shrimp salad, too.

Seafood paradise for take out!! Wouldn't expect it to be in a old gas station, but they made it work!! Their seafood is delicious! I have order from here about four times and a family member goes once a week!! I have always ordered before hand so I could go and pick it up. Their steamed shrimp with seasoning is so darn delicious!! The large that I ordered where big and came with cooked onions as well! The crab cake meal was delicious as well!! I ordered the cucumbers tomato salad and the hush puppies and both were delicious! Love having hush puppies that are not greasy. Their crabs ( sometimes have $1 crabs) are very good as well. They will offer them with out with old bay seasoning on them. The sitting situation is they have picnic tables out front, nothing inside to sit down and eat. The employees have all been really nice when I go and pick up my order.

I come here regularly stopped in for lunch and the food was great as usual. The employees are always very nice and they greet you when you walk in the establishment. The Ice Dock is great , not overly seasoned, and fried just right. The crabs eggs weren't bad it would've been even better if the crab meat was mixed in with the yolk mixture. I come here a few times a month and it's a good experience every time!

The crabs are typically tasty but often light. I'd venture to say that over the past two years that 50% of the crabs I've purchased were light Mediums and heavy Smalls. Shrimp salad is some of the best and that's all I'll purchase from Richards this year. Overall: Disappointed

I am so upset with them ever since they moved. I would faithfully get crabs from this place ever since I found them about 5 years ago because of the quality of the crabs and price. I was SO happy that I would never get a crab that was black inside. I always got crabs that were full and had bright yellow mustard, always.. well the last time I got a dozen large Males, there were a few that were black inside and barely any meat. It was the first time this ever happened, so I didn't think much of it. This past Friday (6/14), however, I ordered one dozen males and every single crab was awful! Honestly, over half of them had their big claws missing and 4 or 5 of them had almost all legs missing (and the big claws weren't even at the bottom of the bag). They were all light in weight, and the worst, black inside , they just seemed very unhealthy looking. Lately, it's been a different experience than what I have been used to. I'm sad because they used to sell healthy looking crabs that were full and delicious with bright yellow mustard and bright white meat. I've told so many people about this place and now I feel embarrassed. Im also a little scared to order from them anymore after the past 2 experiences, its wasted money. It's almost like they are getting to busy to care about everyone.

Finally tried Richards on a Friday and Saturday. You get the smell of seafood as you walk up to the window & they have seashells next to the sidewalk. The regulars probably know this but plan on 1.5-2 hours from order to pickup. I saw a good stream of customers when I picked up my order so it seems they stay busy. We ordered some sandwiches and sides. They didn't have bacon for the BOLT so ordered the regular Fried Oyster Sandwich. It was very good but we ordered a dozen Oysters on our second visit & this is the way to go. Oysters (seasonal) were seasoned just right, tasty & fresh. Also ordered the Ice Dock (Fried Haddock) which was gianormous! Much more fish than bread and enough for two (go with the Mini Dock). Seasoning and batter was very good. That said, we enjoyed the fish (White Fish) basket more. The batter was different and had more of a beer batter consistency. The Clam strips were also really good. They come as a side and we had 3 orders which can be an entree. We had to try the Shrimp Salad which was excellent. Many were picking up steamed crabs so next time. Overall, fresh seafood, good value for money and friendly people at the window.

Easily the best crabs in Harford Co. I mean they never disappoint. Crabs are always heavy and seasoned just right! I've tried different places throughout the county but none compare to Richard's. The flavor is off the charts! If you are looking for MARYLAND steamed crabs then look no further!

I was driving around and wanted a hot meal while in Aberdeen, MD and saw a fish place listed on Google. You cannot visit MD without eating some kind of seafood, right? First, this place had (deviled) crab eggs! Who does that? They do and I ate them eggs before my meal was ready. Deviled eggs with lump crabmeat on top...woo! I ordered the shrimp and wing box with fries. They are HEAVY-HANDED with the Old Bay seasoning which can be overwhelming (salty), especially on the fries....that would be my only caution, to ask for light Old Bay (I will next time). I wished I would have found this place the first night I arrived in Aberdeen--I won't missing this spot any more. I had to follow this meal up with a small cone from Rita's! Seafood and custard for the WIN!

Food was very good Service was excellent. J had mussels and seafood baked potato. Both were good. My friend had a cheesesteak loaded and fries. Very tasty and huge. He had a doggie bag to enjoy for later. I'm looking forward to a return trip soon mussels

This food was very good. The price of the food was average for today's prices. The quality of the food makes the price difference. YES I will be back. The service was better then most places you go to today, friendly, courteous and polite.

We were in the area and gave this well reviewed place a shot. Two fish baskets and a dozen hush puppies and I got change back from a $20. Way too much food, we wished we'd have split it, and gotten some wings for later, ;p Staff was friendly. They make your food when you order it and they estimated the time accurately. Definitely a surprise win for today.

I always like supporting local businesses and have been a huge supporter of Seafood Stop. I now love going to their sister company and seeing the big new store and getting out of the parking lot so much more easier than SS. Thanks for making and serving great food.

Oh my goodness! The Ice Dock sandwich was the best I ever had! Great seasoned fries and excellent potato salad! My husband liked his gosh and chips and we got free refills on our sodas! I'll be coming back!

Cuteness!!! We had no idea it wasn't a place to sit down and eat. It's carry out with some picnic tables outside. I loved it! It was so cute. But most importantly the seafood was delicious. I ordered the haddock fish sandwich with small fries. FYI the small fries can feed 3 people. The fries had a nice malted vinegar taste, reminded me of the beach. My wife had a 5 oz crab cake sandwich on a brioche roll for .50 cents more. The crab cake actually looked bigger than 5 oz and my wife says it was tasty. She didn't care for the coleslaw but didn't hate it either. If I was in the area again I would go here. The prices were very affordable and the portions are huge. The main thing was the flavors were on point and memorable. If you want good tasting seafood without making you poor than try Richards.

Best crab dip in Harford county, MD whatever you choose, they not disappoint you. Try it, and love it.

love the seafood here been going for years. I love to buy 3 lb of shrimp with onions and old bay cooked with the shell on.

When you get out of your car, the mildly-salty smell will make you think you're at the shore. I haven't tried items from their menu, but I get at least a pound of crab meat from Richard's every time I'm in Churchville. I've also bought soft shells and steamed crabs; everything is always fresh and local. The prices are good, although they don't beat grocery store prices on the crab meat and soft shells (it's also much better than anything you'll find at the local groceries!). Employees are always friendly and helpful, the place is never fishy smelling, and there are a couple of picnic tables outside if you want to eat there.

Richards Fish and Crabs have the Best crabs in town! Super fast service and friendly staff! Will be back again soon!

The best crabs I have ever had. And the only place we buy shrimp. Always fresh. And the potato salad is delicious. Keep up the good work.

Definitely order ahead of time. Ordered the fish and chips basket and clams basket. Food was cooked fresh and served piping hot. Breading was crispy not oily at all.The tartar sauce and cocktail sauce was on point. Price is right for the amount of food. Service over the phone and pick up was friendly. Definitely will return!

Great crabs - extremely consistent!! This is the key for a super successful crab place, whoever's running the place and staying on top of the crab steaming is brilliant! Probably the hardest business to run is a seafood business ex especially crabs!!!! Hats off!

I have to say.... this place was really good. I got the fish and chips basket. LONG JOHN SILVERS has nothing on them haha. Their food is made fresh and is tasty. I enjoyed it.

I got the crab cake and the popcorn shrimp basket. Crab cake was very small and came with very little amount of fries. The popcorn shrimp was even more of a disappointment because there was barely any popcorn shrimp and it was placed on top of fries so it looked like there was more shrimp than there really was.

I had a craving for fish and chips and happened to be near this business so I placed an order and added the oyster appetizer to my order. It was reasonably priced and ready when I arrived. I made a couple stops on the way home and it was still hot when I finally opened everything. The seasoning in the batter on the crispy coated fish was delicious. The fish inside was tasty and moist. The oysters were battered and seasoned as well. I'll definitely get food from here every time I want seafood.

I was recommended by an Uber rider. I got the Bolt. Bacon, oyster, lettuce on white toast. Delicious

Greasy take-out joint in a former gas station. Their signature cream of crab soup was just that - creamy with not much flavor. Their vendor supplied clam strips were decently meaty - yet they still were overly breaded. Oysters on the menu, but was fed a line that they only have them "in months that end in R." I eat oysters year round, really? Maybe Santa will deliver them here... Detoured to try this place, next.

Yummy- went to Richard's tonight on a whim because I was going to be in the area and my family and I just discussed crab cakes. What a great idea I ordered the crab cake sandwich with fries. The both of them were delicious. The crab cake had no fillers and it was worth the price and trip. I'll be back.

Most of the food would've been very good if it wasn't overly salted. It's way too salty. Specifically the breading on the fish, and the crab pretzel.

I was at a recent conference close to Harford community college and stumbled upon this place thanks to yelp, and the fact that it looks like a gas station but the pumps are all missing so it immediately catches your eye Lol. The restaurant is a pure gem...it's your typical dive place whereas your instantly greeted, menu is simple and plain, and your food is cooked after you place your order....this is the key because it ensures your food is hot upon pickup. It was a cold day so I had to sit inside my car to eat...no complaints because the crab cake sandwich was probably the best I've ever had...on a warm day I would've sat outside as there is some outdoor seating available. I'd almost consider driving the 1.5hr drive from my house just for the crab cake....actually I'm tempted now lol...try it for yourself if your in the area

I have been to Richard's twice and I have been pleased with my meal and the customer service both times. The staff is extremely friendly and patient. Not being a regular customer, it took me a few minutes and a few questions to figure out what I wanted as I placed my order over the phone. Never once did I get the impression that the young lady taking my order was annoyed with my questions. I ended up getting the "Bay Box" - Six wings, 1/4 lb steamed shrimp and fries for $10. Food was fresh and perfectly seasoned. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the area.

I've ordered from here before- and it's always been ok. I attempted to put an order for crabs and other things in earlier this week- however, I was called later and told that the crabs would have to be ordered Friday morning- and I'd have to call back. They open at 11 am. I called at 11 am- and was told they were out of crabs for the weekend. What the heck is that? I can be pretty understanding- but that's just rude and unhelpful. It would have been nice to be told the truth earlier in the week so I could have tried elsewhere. To be fair- the food is decent (not great) and it's close to my home. However after this, I will be traveling else where to spend my money.

First time ordering crabs in the area and it was a good experience! I was hoping to order jumbos, but they didn't have those or XLs that day, so I settled on the larges. Called around 10:30am and place my order for a 12pm pickup. Around 11 I realized I wouldn't be back in the area until 1pm, so I called and they happily bumped my pickup until later. Pickup was a breeze and everything was ready to go at that time. The crabs weren't super heavy but pretty full--definitely true to size. Great seasoning and no duds in the bunch. Definitely plan to order again when we are craving crabs and hopefully they'll have some jumbos next time!

Love the new location!!! I don't know why but it just makes the seafood taste better
