The bistro seems like an afterthought hidden out the back of the main restaurant. What saves this place from feeling like a restaurant at a retirement village is the deck, the fantastic view and the quality of some of the items on the menu. I ate here three times, and scored a great meal twice. The porterhouse and veggies is a great feed, the octopus is absolutely fantastic, the winning plate on the menu (and affordable too). Don’t bother ordering the pumpkin mains or the sauté mushroom entree…these two dishes are are a gigantic fail! I really don’t understand the super small serve of roast pumpkin with quinoa salad and too many pumpkin seeds. Seems like two sides thrown together to make a vegetarian main…and the sauté mushrooms, I don’t get it…Please add some crusty bread to make the dish closer to edible.

A great place to chill after a good day hike; The view is breath taking and food is good as well.We will definitely be there again. We had a great time soaking in sun drinking chilled beer and we ordered the follow: 1. Salt and pepper Squid- RECOMMENDED: 2. Crispy Tofu Salad-HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: The tofu is crispy and tastes nutty and flavourful. 3. Cajun Fried Chicken-RECOMMENDED: The bun is soft and the filling tastes great. 4. Vegan-RECOMMENDED: The patty is so delicious and unique.

We stayed at Freycinet Lodge for two nights and the first night we ate in Richardsons Bistro. The food is excellent and the service first class. The views from the bistro and the outside deck are beautiful. The staff in the bistro are excellent and Marta deserves a special mention. She was very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for her. Good staff are hard to find but staff of Marta's standard are very rare. My wife had barramundi and I had the local mussels. Both were delicious. A very relaxed atmosphere with delicious food at a reasonable price.

1 star for the sweet potato chips— that’s the best of the night. And the service from the lovely staff. Oysters not fresh as I expected and very small, came a long way from Melbourne, and cost $27 for half a dozen for that? I learnt. Salt and pepper squid $18, it’s only ONE PIECE and Tough. Don’t order salmon, it’s over cooked. I paid for the view only!

Don’t know why this place doesn’t have a higher rating as the food was delicious! Went the noodles and they were fantastic with the vegetables cooked to perfection. The burger was delicious and was the size of a house, and the calamari was soft like butter. Couple with a fantastic view of the beach (you can sit outside or inside and both are fantastic) i highly recommend this place. Oh and the price was not expensive either!

Stayed in the Lodge for two nights and had dinner in the Bistro for the first night (heavy rain falling outside) the shared platters are great. Like tapas so you pick two or three - large portions of yummy food. Excellent value and taste. Then breakfast the next morning - WOW! So much great food.

Came here a few days after eating at the Bay Restaurant just next to it (food all comes out the same kitchen it seems). Excellent food, great service and really easy to order pay and food comes out in a timely manner whilst seated in a relaxed environment! Soup of the day was miso and pumpkin - excellent consistency, taste was good - nothing out of this world but also not bad in the slightest. Impressed by the beef salad! That was a delicious Vietnamese style salad! I could have almost eaten another one! And if you love a bit of sweet and sour the Rare Rose cocktail is a hit!! Would recommend eating here! Even over the bay restaurant!!!

Great variety of food. Extremely tasty meals and excellent service. Each night, we were served by Jules. What amazing service by all, especially Jules.

Yelp
This place has a killer view, but the burgers are overcooked and an odd texture, the lamb wasn't very flavorful, and the service was less than stellar. If you want a good view of the bay and don't care what goes down your gullet or how long you wait, this place is fine. The sauteed greens (which were broccoli) were actually quite good.
