We had reservations one night while in town . And it was a great experience. The staff was great and the food and atmosphere was excellent. We got the baked oysters for an appetizer they were amazing. Could've eaten a dozen easily!! I got the maple cured Cod and it was great highly recommend. Other entrees at our table were the hog chop and duck both were great as well. I don't think you could go wrong whatever you choose. Would definitely come back!!

Google
I tried the mashed potatoes and it is salty. Also, the cesar salad is a little bit salty. The french fries is not tasty and served a little bit cold. Regarding the service, it is slow , and all the food served once.

Google
Food was ok, difficult to get a reservation. I had the chicken which was nice, my wife ordered a burger well and it came out rare. She explained that since she was pregnant, to be safe would like it cooked fully. They apologized and took it back. The next burger came out more rare than the first. The third burger was cooked on the outside but pretty pink in the middle. At that point she just didn’t eat the center of the burger and we cut our losses and left. Not many options in Woodstock, unfortunate to have that experience.

The hotel this tavern is located in is beautiful in itself, no question. The tavern was also excellent, and the food was mostly locally sourced which I loved! The baked Ricotta was a great sharable, the oysters were served with some creative sauces which is always a refreshing and exciting alternative to just cocktail sauce. The mussels were excellent, the brocolini was probably the best I've had, and the cocktails were on point! Also the deserts were very creative and delicious. We had a mojito gateau which was a great end to the meal.

We’ve been coming to the Woodstock Inn for years but decided to try out Richardson’s Tavern for the first time recently. Wow were we blown away. Service was great, burger with pimento cheese and bacon jam was to die for!!! Also loved that there were several non-alcoholic cocktail options. A beautiful tavern atmosphere but make sure to book a reservation as seating gets tight.

Google
We were staying at the hotel - which is an incredible place and I would give it a top-notch review no question. But the tavern was extremely disappointing. First off, our table was near a sort of staging area for the waiters, and two of them were standing almost in physical contact with the chairs of two of our party. They were talking loudly about work etc and it was really intrusive. When they stepped away for a moment we moved our table over a bit. It seemed unprofessional for such a handsome location. As for the dinner, aside from a mushroom pasta dish that we shared - which was excellent, no question - the food was mediocre at best and an extreme disappointment when considering the price. I asked for a medium-well burger, my son asked for a medium-rare burger and we both got burned-down-to-a-piece-of-charcoal burger. The bread was hard and difficult to bite through. In sum, it was terrible. My wife had salmon and quinoa. The sauce appeared re-heated from days past. The salmon was overcooked and not fresh. It was greasy and unrefined. Not at all what you would expect at such a place. We canceled our reservation the next night of our stay.

Google
The ambiance was very nice and cozy. However, I was disappointed in the food, especially given the price of the entrees. I ordered the NY Strip which comes with "herb frites" and broccolini. The steak was very tough, and my two dinner guests also got steak and agreed it was tough/chewy. The fries seemed to be from a frozen bag and had a little parsley added as the "herb", and my broccolini came out cold. For $40, it was not worth the splurge for "fine dining".

Google
This is a nice place for casual dining. Not a huge selection, but the dishes we had were tasty--potato soup, flatbread appetizer with mozzarella cheese and salad on it, seafood stew and salad with grilled salmon. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. The manager was very attentive. When our dinner was delayed, he apologized and at no extra cost gave us another round of the beer and wine we had been drinking. Portions are a good size, but not overwhelming, and prices are reasonable. This is a good choice when you don't want a fine dining experience, but something less formal.

Yelp
I'm honestly shocked the reviews are so bad. While I wouldn't say this was the best "hotel meal" I've had, it also was far from the worst. We had a 7:00pm reservation and were seated in the middle of the restaurant. We ordered the parker house rolls, tuna carpaccio, and beet & apple salad to share/start. All three were great but I personally liked the rolls and carpaccio more. For mains, my sister got the cod, mom the oxtail, and myself the duck. I didn't try the cod. The oxtail was just okay, a bowl of pasta with meat. Mine appeared to be the most innovative of the 3 but even then was an odd combination of flavors. I had a glass of red wine (pinot noir) to go with my duck & it was passable at first but got pretty hard to finish near the end. At this point we were still hungry & I was yearning after the shishito peppers I saw earlier on the menu. I was so happy when it came out & appeared to be the crowd pleaser. Though not innovative, the flavors aligned just right. For dessert I had to get the profiteroles for the pumpkin element on a fall "leaf peeping" trip. These were unlike anything I've tried and so I definitely enjoyed these. Was definitely a highlight of the meal. Overall, not too bad but also not "elite". Given its Michelin key designation & the Chef's James Beard recognition, I'd expect much more. Additionally, service wasn't positive because it seemed like everyone had an attitude (not that it was lacking at all though).

Yelp
The Inn staff highly recommends reservations for any dinner at the Inn, and there's only two choices. I'm sorry but the kitchen really falls down on this one. It seems to be the same kitchen as the Red Rooster, but the quality is far below standard, and prices are exorbitant. The walnut-crusted trout. Fully coated fish filet that was over salted and burnt. It was like eating a salty fish cracker. Actually there was no fish taste whatsoever. Served on a bed of lentils and other veggies. The sauce was a complete mismatch with the salty fish stick. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. The chicken wings. Over fried. So hard they are inedible. There was a casserole with cheese and cauliflower. Decent, but ordinary. The only bright spot to our meals was the clam chowder was ok. After a day of snowmobiling you're pretty hungry and will eat just about anything. Sorry, but the quality at Richardson's Tavern left us hungry for more.

Yelp
Interesting dining experience. We had an 8:15 reservation, arrived 5 minutes late, and were sat in the very back by the server station. Drinks were nice, and the appetizers were delicious. Then we waited over 15 minutes for the entrees. The server came by twice to tell us there were two tickets ahead of us. Food finally gets there, the fish tacos are very overcooked. The swordfish was ok but no more than ok. Now the squash was amazing. That was the highlight. Service was a decidedly C at best. I would not come back here. Not worth the poor service and uneven food.

Yelp
The food and deck were surprisingly superb. The wine rioja was exceptional and only 50$ a bottle. Get the quail yum yummy

Yelp
Not good Sorry Just not good - actually an extremely poor performance by the entire kitchen. Our server tried hard but... Very dim low light atmosphere It took 2 and1/2 hours to slog through this abhorrent meal. New England Clam chowder? No baked potatoes soup with a singular clam Broccolini charred as though an arsonist cooked it Food has no flavor Everything severely under seasoned NY strip? No it was a different cut either way a tight tendon running through it - steak was rare and cold. Lovely hotel but seriously this is an abomination and not reflective of the wonderful meal we had a year ago in the main dining room. This was a disaster.

John M.

Yelp
The people working there were very good and helpful. The food was decidedly mediocre. The mussels almost inedible. The chicken appetizer made one wish for Kentucky fried chicken. The hamburger was very delicious and good.

Yelp
Great food and service. The atmosphere was very relaxing. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
An absolutely wonderful spot, ultimately 4.5 stars! If you're ever staying at the Woodstock Inn, you never need to leave the building (or even your room) for top notch dining. In person, their staff is incredibly thoughtful and attentive, but if you opt for room service it comes so quickly with the plates still hot. Garden fries- generous serving and crisp, just needed a touch more salt/seasoning Fondue- love!! The cheese has a nice kick to it, I assume from beer, and the spread has a great variety. When you order it to your room they give you a tea candle and matches to keep it hot Tenderloin tip salad- so tender, flavorful, and the perfect dinner salad serving. So many veggies, and the croutons make the whole dish Shepherd's pie- comes out piping hot and covered in cheese. It's so hard to be patient and not dig in right away, honestly worth burning my mouth for this Be sure to ask about their specials too! They rarely disappoint. If you're staying at the inn it's a no-brainer, but also worth going a bit out of your way even if you're just in town for the day

Yelp
Hostess on 10/19 was unbelievably rude. Wouldn't allow us to sit at the bar to meet our friends, told us to go to Red Rooster. Asked if we could sit at one of the numerous empty tables, said they were all taken. Terrible attitude and hospitality

Yelp
This was my fiancé and I's first time at the Richardson's Tavern inside the Woodstock Inn. The staff all around the hotel were super friendly and welcoming. While approaching the hotel, you'll be greeted and have doors held open for you - again, super friendly people!! Going into the actual tavern, we were told that there was a 30 minute wait (it was 8:30pm, wow!!). To keep yourself busy, I recommend walking around the Inn, the courtyard right outside, and checking out the game room downstairs! Once we were seated, we noticed that the the meals were super pricey and the service is a little slow. My fiancé ordered the burger and I got the fish and chips. The burger was excellent and the bacon bits were the perfect crunch - presentation was great too! As for my fish and chips, I sort of hoped for my fish than chips. The fish to fries ratio was really off - I had two medium slabs of fish and a huge pile of fries. Their cole slaw was a great side and the dipping sauce was plentiful & tasty. Another person from our party ordered a lentil and minestrone soup as her meal and was a little disappointed with how it turned out. For one, she didn't get a spoon for the soup. And secondly, her soup wasn't hot at all, so she asked to have her soup be re-done/heated so that she can get it hot. The second time it came in still lukewarm. Not too sure what happened there - but it wasn't worth asking again. Overall, it wasn't a total bust. The food was still great, our waters got filled frequently, and the staff was friendly enough to try and accommodate our needs. For the restaurant, expect on street parking unless you're staying at the Inn.

Yelp
Richardson Tavern.... I'm not sure if Vermont has lost its tastebuds? Our server Lonnie was great! And the atmosphere is charming! However... We had several items on the menu and zero flavor. The peach flatbread was decent. The lobster pasta- zero flavor. We added much salt and asked for some lemon aioli and that made it edible...but little else. The cheese fondue and the corn was not bad. But not remarkable. The cocktails the same. The Woodstocker burger was over cooked. The dessert however was not worth swallowing. I'm not sure how anyone with any sort of tastebuds would be satisfied after eating here.

Nicole A.

Yelp
The food, service and atmosphere were great! We had a delicious hummus plate to start and a salmon ceaser salad and chicken tacos for dinner - it was all excellent! Our server was very friendly and attentive. We had an excellent seat by the cozy fireplace. All around a great dining experience- and my husband thought it was fantastic also!

Yelp
I got last minute reservations here and it was such a great experience. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was amazing , a lot of farm to table. I had a cocktail and that too was really good. The server also suggested the maple cake and it was very good.

Yelp
Enjoyed our visit To Richardson's Tavern. We were immediately seated and drink orders were taken. The restaurant is a bit on the dark side but it was romantically lit. For starters we had the fondue which was really good, full of lots of different items to dip. Next, I had the baby back ribs which were fall of the bone delicious. They came with an order of sweet potato steak fries which were out of this world. My girlfriend ordered the shepherds pie and said it was delicious. Overall we really enjoyed the meal, very impressed with this place and highly recommend it.

Yelp
My husband and I were staying at the Woodstock Inn and decided to eat here one of the evenings. The room was dark, cozy, and romantic. We had walked by earlier and eyed up the perfect table for 2 near the fireplace and the hostess gladly marked us down for that spot. I loved the atmosphere and it was the perfect place to go since we did not have to leave the hotel grounds. The food was just OK. We started with the Garden Fries and the Sweet Potato & Apple Bisque. The fries were not so great. They looked amazing and had a nice drizzle of aioli and a red sauce to dip but the flavors fell flat. I felt like I just wasted a bunch of calories on the deep fried coating. The soup was better but it came out lukewarm so we had to ask them to heat it up. For our main we shared the Fork & Knive Charred Babyback Ribs. That dish was really yummy. The ribs had an amazing bbq sauce on them & the sweet potato wedges were seasoned deliciously. I'd go back if I was staying in the hotel - but I would go for the location & vibe over the food.

Yelp
Went in with good expectations and left disappointed. Hostess was sweet took us to our table. Writer was off looked at us funny when I asked for dessert then I just said forget it. Our dinner was not good. No bread served ahead of time. French fries tasted like frozen cheap ones you get in supermarket. Burger was not large and for $20 you'd think you get a larger burger. Mushroom sandwich was fair, but part of it tasted off. The dill pickle was gross. Pure salt taste. Seats very uncomfortable. Some had the nicer larger cozy chairs. Table wobbled what you don't expect here. No diversity in staff.

Yelp
Wow....we were warned off this one as we were told the food went down hill. Except there's really not much left of town and it was convenient for eight people to meet. Sadly for them on a Friday it didn't appear busy....the food was perfect and nicely imaginative. Their friend chicken thigh sandwich was absolutely delicious!!! The steak was excellent and the reports on the salads and burgers were awesome too. Their wine and beer selections were also quite nice. And service was prompt, pleasant and attentive. Hope things pick up for them...that area seems to be losing a lot of restaurants lately!

Yelp
We had a lovely meal at Richardson's Tavern inside The Woodstock Inn and Resort. The place is pretty dark, but it's candlelit and actually quite cozy. The menu is farm fresh and offers a variety of options from sharing plates and apps such as Vermont cheese boards, Garden fries and oysters etc., to unique salads with highlights such as pickled apples and fig balsamic. There are classic comfort food items such as burgers and shepherds pie. Sammies and larger meals such as salmon, paella and seafood stew also. Something for everyone here. Richardson's is a good option whether you're looking to nosh and chat with cocktails or sit and indulge in a large, filling meal. There are also daily specials. Kale salad, New England Clam chowder, cast iron mac and cheese and stuffed chicken were our choices. All were enjoyed thoroughly. Our waiter was inviting and attentive, even for the busy "Wassail Weekend". There's a few things you should know: First come, first serve only. No rezzies. Opens at 5 daily. Last dinner order is taken at 9pm on weekdays and 10pm on Sat & Sun If your tables isn't ready they will make you a spirit of your choice to enjoy in front of the fireplace. I highly recommend giving your name then heading to the game room until your table is ready. This is a great idea especially if you have littles in tow. No kid's menu but the cast iron mac and cheese is a great option. Ask for it sans crispy prosciutto for vegheads. Priced appropriately for the Inn as well as for the town it's located in. I'm looking forward to another meal here when in town again! We recommend!

Yelp
New review (2 stars): Went for dinner and was reasonably disappointed in the food quality. It was crowded, but not terrible and our meal took a long time to come out of the kitchen. Our server was very nice and we were ok with the wait but the food was not great at all. My medium burger was well done w cheese on it that wasn't melted and a very hard roll. The fries were so salty they were not edible. Many cocktails were $16. Even in Boston I rarely pay that. Local draft beer was $10 which also seems expensive. I love the Woodstock Inn and Richardson's has a great ambience but it's way too expensive considering the food quality. Old review (4 stars): If you stick to basics like burgers and pub food, it's great. Anything else, it's good but not great. The ambiance is very nice - comfortable seating, dark wood paneling and the servers were helpful. If you stick to pub good you'll be very

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner here while in Woodstock for a night on a road trip. The ambiance is upscale comfortable and we had a nice table near the window. We were on the early side (traveling with a toddler) and everyone was friendly and attentive. I had an excellent salad and I appreciated that the kids menu had good options for a rounded meal (fish, broccoli, and potatoes) rather than the usual three options of pasta, chicken tenders, or grilled cheese (they do have those as well). Not sure we'll find ourselves in Woodstock again, but would go back here if we were.

Aldo M.

Yelp
Came here w my wife for a drink, and when we told them we weren't guests at the hotel they suddenly didn't have any seating for us. Even though the place was empty! Then they promptly escorted us to a "private patio" (read: out of view of their guests) in the back of the hotel, even though we're a damned good-looking couple (ahem). Lots of dirty looks. Would not recommend...

Jan B.

Yelp
As a local, I have been going to the Tavern for years. This last visit on a Thursday evening just kept going from bad to worse. We were a table of 8 on a not very busy evening. Drink orders took over 10 minutes to be initiated let alone arrive. Dinner, from ordering to delivery took an hour. When the waitress was asked about our dinner delivery delay her answer was "The chef is cooking it!!!!" Not an appropriate answer for The Woodstock Inn staff to make. My rare burger had no doubt been cooking for the entire time as it was anything but rare. . And when you leave more than half on the plate that should be an indicator that something was not right and the chef should know. Staff should be trained to get feedback. Will not be back. Red Rooster at the bar with Scott, the bartender, will be the only choice for me in the future.

Patty C.

Yelp
This was our first time dining here and we will definitely be back. The Mussels appetizer was so good.. The only disappointment was the onion soup which wasn't hot enough and could have used more cheese. The entrees and desserts "pictured" and reviewed below were all fabulous....

Yelp
My husband and I decided to try Richardson's Tavern thinking it might be a standard bar menu. We were delighted to find a very cozy spot where both the atmosphere and the food could not have been better. The cheese slate was amazing and the chicken dinner was the best we've had. Delicious and we highly recommend.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner at Richardson's on Saturday night. We had the garden fries, a wedge, the steak frites, and a couple of burgers. The food was great, the service was perfect, and the atmosphere was so relaxing. Looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
This is the casual restaurant located at the Woodstock Inn & Resort. Came for dinner on a Tuesday night and was told there was a 45 minute wait. Admittedly, I was taken a little bit back by the wait time, but so it goes. Finally seated on the outside patio, placed our order and waited, and waited for our food. Waitress came out to check on us several times and apologized for the delay. A different waiter at another table apologized to another couple that had also been waiting for their food and said they have been having issues in the kitchen. When the food finally came it was burnt. My wife's fish and chips were inedible. Didn't want to make a scene understand things happen. But I was definitely expecting a lot more from a restaurant at the Woodstock Inn. If you're staying at this hotel I recommend you take the short one minute walk into town and eat somewhere else.

Yelp
Favorite meal of our vacation. So relaxing. Fantastic service. Food was excellent and a great value. Crispy trout sandwich is so good. Husband's burger was as well. Great memory
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
For starters we were told the wait was 45 minutes and instead it was about an hour and 45 minutes. The food was bland, and overpriced. The lettuce on the salad was wilted and no dressing, until we asked. On the arrival of the clam chowder nobody brought a spoon. And we had to ask for that as well. if they want to be upscale and charge upscale prices, they need to learn to be upscale.
google avatar

Kathy K.

Yelp
Disappointing experience. Pricey. $12.00 for sparkling water? Food okay. Service is good. We wouldn't return.

Lawrence S.

Yelp
We came here last night, and we will start off by saying that it is an amazing and cozy atmosphere. They had a young acoustic singer that was phenomenal and set the mood perfectly in this all wood room lit by candles and the fireplace. When we arrived, we were told that there was an hour plus wait for a table, but the hostess was very nice and accommodating, telling us to help ourselves to explore the hotel or hangout at the bar while we waited. We decided to go to the bar and get drinks and enjoy the music. My husband was waiting patiently behind an empty chair to order drinks for a few minutes, then suddenly the bartender (Brittany) comes around and stands next to my husband and just stares at him like he's doing something wrong, not saying a word. So confused, my husband says how he was trying to order a drink. she says back with this condescending attitude, "Well thats why I'm here". Very confused still he orders us drinks. About 10-15 minutes later, a young women in the corner asks us if we would like to sit bc shes just waiting for her boyfriend who is the singer and shes going to head out to grab pizza. We thank her and take the sit. As soon as we sit down, the bartender rushes over and again with this major attitude says to me, "did you just take her seat?" I said no and explained that she offered it to us. I've never in my life been accused of stealing someones seat at a bar and by the bartender no less. We thought about ordering dinner at the bar but after those two rude encounters with the bartender we decided to wait for a table. Once we finished our first round of drinks she clearly ignored us and was drying glasses while we sat there for another 15 minutes. She finally came over and rudely offered another drink and soon after got a table. Everyone else who was working was extremely friendly and nice. The food was very good and was tasty pub fare. Overall we would come back here but hope we don't have the same bartender. She definitely dampened our evening, otherwise we would have given it 4 stars.

Maureen S.

Yelp
Sorely disappointed in the quality and presentation of the food. We love visiting Vermont because of the fabulous fresh and well prepared food and we thought a quick stop at the bar would not disappoint. The two bartenders were friendly and attentive. We ordered both the wings and asparagus as appetizers. The wings were greasy fried with very little taste. The asparagus appetizer had one piece of asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and was burnt. For dinner we had a chicken sandwich and supposedly a salad with cauliflower. There were three pieces of cold fried cauliflower on mixed greens. Definitely not worth the money or time.

Nina S.

Yelp
Great room. Food is good. Service is terrible. Understaffed, ran out of bread. This is a very expensive resort, they should not have these problems.

Jill O.

Yelp
Went to Richardson's Tavern at the Woodstock In on Tuesday night with a friend. I was very surprised by the snotty and condescending attitude of the staff. It was as if the guests were unimportant especially those that went up to the bar to get a drink and were snubbed by the bartender. They were having half price burgers (now $8.00, and that must have meant half the attention was given to them. The buns came out burnt and haphazard appearing some with cheese and onion sticks others without. So many servers, order takers and management floating around yet it still took more than 30 minutes to receive our meals. The place was busy off and on but expected more.

Scott S.

Yelp
Service was slow. Does not take reservations. Food was okay. Portion size average.

E G.

Yelp
Came here at 5:30 and asked for a table. The guy told us "oh geez we're booked until 9 sorry." Then we said "ok let's go to the other place" (of theirs, at the other side of the hotel) and he said"oh they're booked too." Then we went into the bar a few minutes later and a different woman said "oh are you waiting for a table?" And we said no there are none. And she said "oh but one opened up." Then we got seated and literally there 5 tables open around us THE ENTIRE NIGHT. The place was basically dead. Don't know if the guy was racist (one of our party was the only nonwhite in the entire hotel) or against kids (we were with 3 kids) or they're just TOTALLY INCOMPETENT. At least the woman hostess was sensible. Food was great. Waiter great too. They just need to manage this place better. We almost left entirely to another place. And because they said initially they couldn't seat us, our kids ended up not being seated and had to eat in their rooms. Even as the entire place was basically empty the whole time we were there. My friend said the same thing happened to them last time they were here. Dumb.

Patricia E.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in Woodstock! Friendly waitstaff and great bartenders! Wonderful food! They don't take reservations, but if there is a wait, you can order a drink at the bar and take it to one of the many sitting areas- or better yet, the game room-- in the Inn. Try the cheese fondue!
