Richmond Hotel Matsumoto

We stayed in the Standard Double Room, Non Smoking (No Extra Bed, 18 sqm). The room was clean, practical, and slightly more spacious than typical business hotels. The bathroom had a small bath tub, which is customary, and a humidifier was provided where you add your own water before switching it on. Amenities such as coffee, toothbrushes, and combs were available at the lobby’s self-service corner. Check in was smooth and the hotel already had our Expedia reservations prepared. As with most Japanese hotels, copies of our passports were taken during registration. The hotel also provides coin laundry facilities along with vending machines for drinks and beer. The location is convenient, a short walk from Matsumoto Station and within walking distance to Matsumoto Castle. While there is a shopping mall right beside the hotel, it is currently closed. The nearest active mall is further south, closer to the bus terminal. Overall, Richmond Hotel Matsumoto provided a comfortable stay in a well connected part of the city.

Good location to get around the sights. Front desk and amenities are at 2nd floor, while the restaurant for breakfast is at the first floor. Excellent breakfast with a good selection of Japanese style and western food selection. Only 4 washing machines for laundry needs, and the best time is you can monitor the status of the washing machines from your room. Room size is good, do note that most hotel rooms in Japan are kinda small. Hotel front door seems to closes from midnight to 6am. So take note if you like to take a late night walk or go for a drink.

We loved our stay here - lovely rooms and the biggest we had while in Japan. The location was fantastic - easy walk from the train station (even with luggage), short walk to the castle and shopping street and many beautiful cafes and restaurants in close proximity. Would highly recommend and we would definitely stay there again.

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Everything about the room was very comfortable and we highly recommend staying here when visiting Matsumoto. The hotel staff went above and beyond to help us when we encountered an issue with ETC along the way to this hotel in our rental car. (The issue had nothing to do with the hotel.) We asked the front desk how we should handle this issue as tourists and their staff and management went out of their way to make several phone calls on our behalf with the ETC staff and our rental car company explaining what happened. The hotel manager even said that if our rental car company or ETC gave us any issues when we turn our rental car in, to reach out to him directly and he would help us. This was a very compassionate gesture to offer us, especially when the hotel had nothing to do with what happened! Not only will you get a nice and comfortable hotel room if you stay here, but you will also have very emphatic and friendly staff who will go above and beyond! We are very thankful to the hotel management and staff for taking such great care of us during our stay!

Our family room seems newly renovated and comes with two single beds and two tatami mats, making it comfortable enough for a two-night stay. The room size is adequate, but luggage needs to be opened one by one due to space constraints. Daily eco-friendly services include towel changes and rubbish disposal. Located on the highest floor (10th), the room offers a lovely view of the mountains. The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance of many eateries, including a famous miso ramen restaurant just across the street. It's a 5-minute drive to the castle. The hotel parking is automated and operated by friendly staff, and it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Overall value for money.

The hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes’ walk from the train station. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and equipped with thoughtful extras. The reception area offers a wider variety of complimentary amenities than you would normally expect for this hotel category and each guest is provided with a pyjama/robe. Rooms also include a dehumidifier. Pillows have two sides: one of them filled with cherry pits for added comfort. You can easily explore the city on foot, as the hotel is very well situated. What surprised me the most was the air-conditioning and ventilation filters in the ceiling right after entering the room. They were full of dust!! Surprisingly, and for the first time in Japan, the front desk staff were not as supportive or kind as usual. At times they felt a bit rude and very direct, possibly due to language barriers. The breakfast is very affordable, but the quality reflects that: limited variety and most items were served cold.

Stayed one night, on transit. Have only the highest praise for the hotel. Check in was efficient and prompt; hallways and rooms looked freshly renovated. Room was large for two persons, although we accommodated three which was slightly more of a squeeze, but bearable. Fittings and light controls were modern, lots of charging points, and everything was well laid out. Bathrooms were standard for Japan, clean but functional. Shower was really strong. Lots of essentials placed at foyer, including some (really good) drip coffee. (paid) Laundry and microwave facilities available on some floors; you could even monitor the laundry progress on the in-room TV! Check out early was problem-free, you could use the self-service terminals in the foyer. The hotel is a short 5 minute walk to the station, along very uncomplicated routes, and is also centrally placed to most of the eateries that you might want for Matsumoto.

We just has 3 nights at this hotel. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Staff were efficient and eager to assist. Laundry facilities useful. Location ideal. Only down side is breakfast. Felt like an American diner. Very noisy and food barely edible. We stuck with miso soup, rice, fruit and tea as scrambled eggs looked like egg soup and bacon looked boiled! If the hotel gave this area a makeover in service and food offerings it would be a great hotel.
