Richmond Tea Rooms is my absolute go-to spot for afternoon tea — not just for its central location, but for its charming atmosphere and consistently delicious food. It’s a popular place and can get quite busy, so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation in advance, which is exactly what we did. As we had someone with coeliac at the table, we ordered one gluten-free Queen’s Afternoon Tea, and for myself, the Alice Afternoon Tea (not gluten-free). We were genuinely impressed by everything we tried, but the scones were without a doubt the real highlight and the one we found ourselves missing the most afterwards. Having tasted both the regular and gluten-free versions, I can confidently say that both were excellent. Another lovely touch is that the teapots come with a one-time refill, which makes the whole experience feel even more generous and relaxed. The venue itself has such an authentic and immersive atmosphere. The staff are incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. A huge thank you to the entire team. I’m already counting down the days until my next visit.

Always a fab time at the tea rooms from Afternoon tea to Christmas meals the food is always divine and the staff are beyond helpful. Set in a beautiful Alice In Wonderland fantasy theme, the decor is stunning, the toilets are spotless and the cake choice is unreal. Nice touches and the Christmas meals are huge and flavourful, home made giant yorkies to crispy parsnip shavings. Even GF and V choices. We all had a fabulous night here. Thank you so much wish I had taken more pics but was having too much of a nice time xx

WOW! and WOW! What a gorgeous place! My daughter gave me a voucher for the Queens Tea. Was stunning inside and very quaint and cosy. Service was great from the start when you enter inside. There’s a great selection of food and drinks to order. Opens from the morning so many people were having breakfast whilst others were enjoying desserts or high teas- which there is a lovely selection from. Not too far from Picadilly to walk. Definitely worth a visit whether it’s breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and they even have entertainment by night.

One of my favourite restaurants in Manchester. It has a wide range of teas, as well as gluten free and vegan food available. The decor is fabulous.

The Richmond Tea Rooms made our celebration even more special for us by lots of little touches and excellent service. We had the queen's tea and the vegetarian tea also. Everyone was very happy. Large portions not everyone finished but we were given takeaway boxes in beautiful bags.

I recently booked The Mad Hatters’ late-night adult tea party, which included live entertainment, participating party games, and the option to win prizes. I was fortunate enough to win a complimentary mint shot, while my friend won a £20 voucher to enjoy at the tea rooms. The magical tea room is themed around Alice’s adventures in Wonderland throughout the building, transporting you to a storybook world. The tables are adorned with treasure rows of China crockery and tablecloths, serving homemade cakes, finger sandwiches, delectable scones, and gorgeous cocktails and mocktails. It was a feast for the eyes and taste buds. During the party, we had the chance to meet the Mad Hatter and his quirky friends, including Alice and the White Rabbit, who kept us entertained all night. The staff and performers were incredibly friendly and welcoming, ensuring that our evening was filled with unforgettable moments. I highly recommend Richmond Tea Rooms for a truly unforgettable night out. I can’t wait to return and relive all the magic again – the evening flew by! The Richmond Tea Rooms are conveniently located near the vibrant Canal Street, shops and bars in the heart of Manchester City Centre, making it the perfect spot for a fun-filled night out.

Mad Hatters Tea Party. What a fun evening; perfect for two or groups. Beautiful decor and decoration. Lovely food but it was the hosts that made the night. Just the right amount of sarcasm and innuendos. We laughed and laughed! Could have done without Snow Whites extra bit.. didn’t seem in keeping BUT what a fun evening. The cat was hilarious. Will definitely return!!!

We had tea at this Alice in Wonderland themed tea room for my birthday. The service was A1, spectacular. The staff gave us excellent recommendations and help. We really enjoyed ourselves with the delicious sandwiches, tea, and cakes. This was the highlight of our visit to Manchester. The interior is so fun and charming. Afterwards, we walked around the area to read about Alan Turing. What a wonderful memory. Thank you!

This would be my first English Afternoon Tea, and it was an absolute hit. Plus Alice In Wonderland themed? Say no more! The ambiance was amazing and super cute! We did the Queens Afternoon Tea and it was delicious. The finger sandwiches had a fine selection and the dessert cakes/sweets were decent (I'm not big on sweets), the star of the show were the SCONES! it was absolutely divine. We tried the chocolate tea and passion fruit mango guava tea, both 10/10. Staff was attentive and sweet! I'm already dying to go back just for tea and scones before I end my trip.

Super cute tea room with wonderful service and fantastic food. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and the large menu selection. You can even get cocktails. It's best to have a reservation but if you don't have one they will still try to squeeze you in, it just won't always be possible.

Special shout out to our server Adele who was so great and helpful during our afternoon tea time. My brother and I happen to be walking around Manchester and the Piccadilly area and we wanted to do tea. I found this place via Yelp and Google which had some great reviews. We came in the afternoon around 2pm and didn't have a reservation but they gladly accepted us. We took a look at the menu and wanted to do a tea set which came with a pot of tea and the food sets. I forgot which one was which but my brother probably got the Queen's Tea which came with a pot of tea and the tower (they have vegan options), and I got the Richmond Tea which also comes with a glass of champagne, tea, and the tower. I think I chose the tea that the Queen drinks which was some type of black/earl gray tea when I asked what was the most popular. I can't remember what my brother got. And I ordered another herbal fruity tea which was great. You can add sugar and milk (they have almond, soy, oat options too). I personally don't like adding things to my tea especially with all of the sweets and sandwiches. The tower is definitely easy for 2 women to share. My brother devoured his tower and I pretty much took a bite out of each piece and saved the rest which became my dinner. It's pretty cute inside and if you want to order individual items and ice cream you can too! They have a separate area for parties downstairs and the bathroom is also located downstairs. Super cute inside and if you're in the area, would definitely recommend this place for tea!

Hilarious Alice in Wonderland decor, and they're willing to pack a to-go box of treats. We didn't have time on this work trip to sit down for a full tea, but did have time for someone to run out and grab a box of sweets to eat in the hotel. Took a few minutes for them to put something together, but it was delightful. The tall front steps are a beast if you're pushing a pram or stroller. Can't imagine doing it with a wheelchair --- website states "We have two large steps outside which lead to an accessible chair lift." We'll have to come back some time when we have enough time for a proper tea!

Definitely an interesting place. Has a vintage atmosphere and detailed retro-style interior. I would advise to book in advance, as every time I have been there it was quite busy. The place is certainly not cheap, but the food and teas are lovely!

I am not the biggest tea fan, but I cannot begin to describe the wonderful experience in the Richmond Tea Room. From the moment you walk in, you are transported to a Wonderland-esque state of mind. The staff is over the top friendly and quick. The aromas from the different teas/coffees weave through the room, and my cinnamon black tea did not disappoint! I only had tea cakes (that were yummy) but the eggs Benedict and English breakfasts everyone was having around me looked absolutely delicious. A must in Manchester for tea and if you can breakfast/lunch for sure.

Very sweet tea room. The seating and surrounding is as crazy as Alice in Wonderland. The service was very nice, lovely tea and great scones. The cake was a bit to sweet for my taste but that might just be me. I will definitely be back to try the sandwiches

My fiancée and I had a meal booked which unfortunately we had to cancel as we were forced to self-isolate due to coronavirus. We were charged £15, which is an illegal practice according to the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and guidance put out regarding Coronavirus by the CMA. I explained this to them and they fell back on "It's in our terms and conditions", despite the fact that this does not make it a legal practice, and the terms and conditions specifically says that it is discretionary - so they are choosing to penalise us for being safe and following the law, which I can only assume they are doing to many other customers too. Unfortunately we were regular visitors to this place, but will not be returning again.

I LOVE this place! Not only are the sandwiches and scones delicious but so is the tea and dessert! Plus it's Alice in Wonderland themed so you can't get any better than that. This place gets really busy so make sure you come early. I've been here a few times now and every time I go to Manchester I HAVE to stop by this tea house. It's a pretty big place and sometimes they have Mad Hatter tea parties where you can dress up. For those events you have to buy tickets in advance. I would love to have a birthday party here it would be so much fun. And who doesn't love tea parties? Also the milk shakes are bomb you have to try one. They have a huge assortment of tea and I've tried many different ones. And the sandwiches are sooo delicious. My co-worker had a slice of their carrot cake and I tried a piece it was amazing. You can't go wrong with this tea house everything and I mean EVERYTHING tastes great!

I hosted my best friends baby shower at Richmond tea rooms a few weekends ago and it was the perfect place. This Alice in Wonderland / tea party themed restaurant is quirky and fun and ALWAYS busy! You can only book for tables of 6 or more so if you're looking to go as a 2 or a small group, particularly at the weekend, you'll pretty much have no chance unless you time it right. I overheard the hostess tell a couple that it was over an hours wait, and for tea and cake I found that a little too long! I know exactly why is popular though - the afternoon tea I ordered was great, although a little expensive for what we received. I ordered the £18.50 afternoon tea and for that I received half a pot of tea (to share with my best friend who had also ordered the same) 4 very small, but quite tasty, finger sandwiches. 2 cakes and a scone with clotted cream. I've had afternoon teas elsewhere that have a higher standard for less - but still, it was nice and the surroundings are lovely. If you can get in, it's a must try.

The epitome of a traditional English Tea Room, Richmond's has a wonderful Alice in Wonderland theme and is decorated in such a manner, but in more of a Victorian style with lace doilies and swagging curtains rather than Disney Cartoon. The venue itself is beautifully decorated and very comfortable to relax in, with a mish-mash of furniture. There are tables-and-chairs, three curtained booths (very theatrical) and even a little "greenhouse" which inside is themed as such! The toilets are PROPER TOILETS, not "cafe toilets", ie you have a hand towel, not paper towels etc, which is always a treat. These too are kept in-theme. The staff are very friendly and professionalm and the food is both delicious and incredibly tempting! Not just the lunches and the sort available, but the large counter of wonderful cakes would tempt even the staunchest dieter! The drinks are also wonderful, including coffees, soft drinks, and a superb range of teas, as well as their own 'Richmond Blend' itself. They also do Afternoon Tea packages, including sandwiches, cakes, scones, teas etc. A real treat! There's also a bar which is in a separate room from the tea rooms, and is decorated in a 'hunting lodge' style complete with antler chandeliers. To those who may be a little un-nerved about it being in the city's 'gay district', I implore you not to worry, because despite its location down a back-street behind Canal Street (which feels like you've gone the wrong way, so stepping through the looking glass from the dismal street into the sumptuous tea rooms is very Alice in Wonderland indeed!), you could bring your granny here happily, and enjoy afternoon tea with her. I highly recommend Richmond's for the traditional tea room experience, as it seems most places are moving towards the modern coffee shop style.

Pros: A great variety of teas thats taste awesome. The decoration is one of a kind. Lots of delicious cakes. We tried the carrot cake and the Victoria cake, loved it. Cons: The service was little slow.

The staff are friendly, the food is good (when you know what to order), and the interior design is delightful. I went with a friend for dinner and we both had sandwiches. She went for the salmon which was pretty average but the veggie club is a must for those who love goats cheese. With a side of fries and salad, the meal is very filling. I would also recommend trying the apple and rhubarb for dessert.

Richmond Tea Rooms is super super cool. I came here just for afternoon tea and was really happy with the food, ambience and service. For a Friday afternoon we didn't have to wait long for a table for two. Their scones and clotted cream are to die for. I wish I could haul a giant tub of clotted cream back home with me. We had the Queen's Tea and the Hatter's Tea which came out to 28.50 pounds. It's a bit pricey but it was a fun experience. I would probably just get the Hatter's Tea next time because we had too much food to finish. It's a great place to bring a girl friend or just to stuff your face with delicious treats.

Its like stepping in to a fairytale this place. Hidden down an unassuming side street near to the village, the Richmond tea rooms has everything to satisfy your sweet or savoury cravings. We were seated in "the greenhouse" which was a really cute indoor outdoor construction near the window side of the room ( see pictures) the whole place has a lovely decor with each side of the room taking a slightly different theme but the alice in wonderland inspired "eat me" painted on the wall near the cake selection is my fav! They offer a good menu of snacks and breakfast items as well as cake, cake and more cake! Oh and scones if thats what tickles your fancy! Normally the brunch items finish at 1pm but one of our party fancied scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast and our lovely waitress was more than happy to check with chef to see if he could rustle it up. They take booking for parties of 6 or more but there is a non refundable deposit of £20 required - it is advisable on a weekend as it does get busy esp. around lunch time. If there a just a couple of you you won't necessarily need to book but may have to wait for a table especially on a Saturday I had the Alice tea (scone and tea) £6.50 which was more than enough as the scone was the size of a plate! Don't be afraid to ask for more cream and jam the guys will happily let you have as much as you need.

If I had to describe this place in one word, it would be sumptuous. As soon as you walk in, your eyes are welcomed by luxurious drapes of satin and velvet surrounding ornate embroidered armchairs at tables covered with lacy cloths. The mere sight of this tea room was enough to make me melt, and I feel I have to explain further. At one end of the room, satin drapes partially obscure three little tables, making them a little more private. Furthermore, these tables are accompanied by a gorgeous red velvet sofa complete with extra cushions. It is very lovely indeed. And as if that wasn't enough to win me over instantly, there is the most delightful feature in the opposite corner. Behold: a mini conservatory. Well, sort of, conservatory is the closest word I can think of with which to describe it. Again, this area is slightly more private, with two little tables being separated from the main room by glass-panelled partitions. This little area is decked out with potted plants and suspended candle-lamps, with another cushion-laden sofa. Aahhh I just love it. The menu comprises a very pleasing selection of teas, which are served up in gorgeous white ceramic teapots. A pot for one will set you back around £3 or so, but pots for two are also available for around £5. They do not shun the coffee lovers here either, and the standardised selection of coffee is on offer too. To tempt your appetite the menu also includes a range of sandwiches and light meals to accompany your pot of tea. And of course, like any self-respecting tea room, they sell lots of delightfully delicious cakes. I'm also heartily impressed by their opening hours. They're open 11am - 11pm, seven days a week. This means not only can you indulge yourself at this little haven during the day, but also make the most of it in the evenings, perhaps dropping by after dining out, a hard day's work, or as a rendez-vous before night-time adventures. You might asking yourselves why then, I have not given Richmond Tea Rooms the full five stars. And there are two reasons for this. Firstly, the quality of the cakes doesn't appear to be consistent, one day they can be deliciously moist and indulgent, and the next they can be a little dry and not really anything special. Secondly the service isn't quite up to par. I was seated with a menu on my arrival, but despite the place not being particularly busy at this time of day, it was a long time before anyone actually came to take my order, an experience which has been mirrored in visits by my friends. If these two points can be resolved, it'll get the five stars for sure. I do hope so!

We came here at the end of March for Cherie Bebes burlesque review. If you didn't already know that it was alice in wonderland themed, it definitely hits you as you walk in! We headed to the room upstairs, after gazing at the cakes in the cafe downstairs longingly, even though I was definitely still full from lunch... As a venue, it still worked even without a stage, the staff were wonderful and the decor was quaint, I particularly liked the garden-y feel of the trellis. We drank tea, coffee, beer and cider, we asked what the cakes were and were given a food menu instead, and decided it just wasn't meant to be and that we would just have to waddle home if we crammed any more in there... The bar wasn't extensive, but varied enough, and there were flyers for s really good range of events. I fully intend to come back here and fill myself with cake.

Ah well, I had a wonderful weekend in Manchester for Pride, but the end of pride would not be the same without a visit to this wonderful establishment

Went there today for tea with a friend, it's a very pretty place and has the Alice in Wonderland theme if you're into that. Tea was good however the service was rather slow, my tea was more or less cold when my scones and sandwiches finally arrived!

My first time in this enlarged tea room and am won over by its charms. Much more than just a great selection of teas, scones and cakes but a full and imaginative brunch menu and a great choice of themed teas incorporating food (the Gentleman's Tea for example comes with a pint of beer, sausage roll and fish and chips! It seems a little pricey at £23 but 'vignette' feasts go with a choice of vignette surroundings. We settled for a light bite on this occasion of Tweedle Dum - a 'wonderland whimsy' pervades everything - a very tasty and filling Croque-Madam. The ham and cheese toasted sandwich with fried egg was greater than the sum of its parts and well worth the £6.95 we paid. I think I'll have to add this ambient treat to my regular list of must do's.

Best tea rooms in Manchester! You'll find a range of light to filling lunches, fresh cakes, hot puds, large variety of teas or if you want something stronger they have a bar. Made to feel like you're entering Wonderland, this quaint place should be on everyone's bucket list. It's extremely popular so do expect a wait. However they do take bookings for larger groups.

Just popped in here for a hot chocolate (not the best, as they use cheap whipped cream and marshmallows, but the actual chocolate did not leave a bad aftertaste) but I will definitely go back because I loved the whimsical Alice in Wonderland decor and light and airy feel - unlike Sugar Junction's basement, this space benefits from three large windows. Cakes looked decent but not amazing, but it was late on a warm Sunday so they were probably done anyway. It is very nice that there is somewhere you could go for a nice tea quite late on a Sunday (they were closing at 9.30pm although a couple of tables were sitting on past then). Staff not the friendliest but efficient.

One word - WOW. so after the day from hell on Monday, my boyfriend brought me here to cheer me up and calm my nerves, and accomplished exactly that! what an amazing place this is!!! As a Lewis Caroll fan i was absolutely in awe of the Alice in Wonderland theme the tea rooms has, even names if some if the drinks and food. My lemon cake was so pretty and tasted even better than it looked and my milkshake came in the cutest little jar!! Prices weren't TOO outrageous and we came out very satisfied with our visit and the customer service given by the staff. Whom were very attentive and always poilite, ensuring we had everything we wanted on our visit and checking in every so often! This is a great place for a one time visit or even as a regular I don't think I would ever get bored of the quirkiness in this place!! It even had two seperate seating areas to ensure the room was not too cramped.

Visited Richmond Tea Rooms with a friend in a wheelchair. Access was quite difficult, using the Bloom St entrance meant there were fewer steps, though still 4 with no lift and no disabled toilet. Having said that, once inside, the experience was a very positive one. Great friendly, attentive service, amazing cakes and an incredible range of teas. I had Lemon Drizzle Cake and Darjeeling Tea, cost £7.75. Not cheap, but worth it for the choice, quality and great service.

This used to be a place I dreamed about due to it's stunning Alice in Wonderland interior and great cakes. It seems to be a victim of it's own success now as we waited ages for a table (you can't book for smaller parties) in a crowded section of the back room. This used to be a bar now it's stuffed full of people also having afternoon tea and other food. There are too many tables and once we were seated I felt like I was on top of the people around us. The two afternoon teas we had were generous, too much really but only average in quality. My friend ordered a sticky toffee pudding that looked great but was frozen in the middle! Sorry Richmond Tea Rooms but you are off my list now. There are too many other great places to choose from in Manchester.

What a lovely place! The decor and atmosphere of the place is fantastic! Makes you feel in one of the pages of Alice in Wonderland book. Every tiny detail of the place is well planed, for your to have a nice experience. Their chocolate fudge cake is THE BEST! It's hot, so the chocolate melts whilst you eat it, and also comes with ice cream. They have a long list of teas, which I recommend people to try so they'll have the full experience. I think it's a good place for an afternoon tea. Their sandwich and food is really expensive, so I don't know if it's really worth it. But afternoon tea is amazing! I really recommend it!

Amazing service and gluten free selection bread sandwiches, and cakes!!! Yes yes! The queen's tea is the treat for you to go for when feeling selfish - tea of your choice, sandwiches, scone with cream and jam and a selection of cakes for £16. And did I mention they did ALL gluten free for me? Your dietary need is not even a bat of the eyelids to them. It's done with a smile and the kindest of service. The staff are lovely! Want to book for a party? They'll do that too. We had a great time having a tea party for a friend's birthday. The food arrived all at once and there were at least 20 of us. Good planning and organisation. They still do a selection of food they call 'light lunch' - jacket potatoes, Welsh Rarebit etc. Suitable place for gluten free, vegan, vegetarian. The decor is fantastically well done - it will remind you of Alice and Wonderland but that shouldn't be a negative thing. Think of the entertainment factor and the beautiful decor.

I was introduced to Richmond Tea Rooms by my wife, earlier this week. We had wait for about five minutes as we had not booked a table. So I definitely recommend booking in advance. The place has ambience and character, I admit it. The menu, however, felt quite pricey for what was being served, but we decided not to order food as it was one of those in-between hours. We decided to stick with tea and got a pot of passionfruit, guava and mango gunpowder tea for two. The pot arrived fairly quickly. The tea itself had a great aroma and was very flavoursome. At the moment I am only offering a three star because it was not exceptional and I still haven't tried the food. Based on this experience I'm keen on going back again for a full whack. Is it worth the price? Watch this space.

Great tea, unique atmosphere. Exceptionally pleasant host. Was a bit busy so our server was inattentive, we had to ask another attendant for the bill. Great tea, the tiered selection of sandwiches, scone, pudding and tiny cakes was excellent. I'm giving this four stars though because the larger pieces of cake were disappointing and severely ovepriced at £5 each. Great place to come with a friend. Overall, recommend it.

I love the Richmond Tea Rooms, although it is getting harder to just turn up and hope for a table as they are now a venue for hen parties and birthdays. But if you are planning on celebrating life I suggest booking a table rocking up and taking advantage of the quirky interior, tea, food and amazing cake. The Staff know their stuff and are good at recommending tea or something stronger that will match cake or anything else on the menu. They are friendly and have a attention to detail. The food is a big pile of Yum!! which helps, I would recommend sharing the cake as there is so much choice and if you are like me to you will want to try it all. If you are not able to get a table right away i would also recommend the bar just behind the tea rooms. Definatly not a place to be missed.

Worst experience I've ever had. Came with my wife from Los Angeles and a friend recommended this place. We called a day before and they said for 2 people they don't do reservations to just come in. We show up and they said wait was 30 minutes and that was ok. We ended up waiting an hour and 10 minutes before they sat us and they sat down 2 other couples before us who did not have reservations and they clearly knew we were there waiting. After they sat us down they took another couples order first and they were sat down a few minutes after us. I had to flag down the waiter to please take out order and he gave me a smirk and laughed as he walked away. Finally a guy came who looked like Harry Potter took our order very rude. We ate and all the waiters were asking other tables if they needed anything else and once again had to flag them down to get out bill. First time in England and everywhere we've been to the people have been so great and welcoming but not this place. This place needs to work on their customer service.

Though somewhat pricey for their mains.. The tea, coffee, icecream and scones are quite reasonable to enjoy in this cute Alice in Wonderland atmosphere! Icecream and Sorbet only £3!

A bit on the pricy end, but the beautiful Alice in wonderland decor and the tea was really amazing. The snacks were very good as I had the afternoon tea set. They have it available all day, which I think is wonderful. Definitely a quaint little place that one should come to for enjoyment

Alice in wonderland-inspired tea rooms. Cocktails on one side, tea on the other. They've a range of about 8 teas for traditional tea served in a distinctly kitschy "your gran exploded into chintz and lace" place. The staff are super friendly - even when they get locked in the wine cellar digging up your champagne (slight tip: our fizz was not cold enough!) Clotted cream-laden scones will fill you up, but the sandwiches are fab as well. There are a range of cocktails from the bar next door all brought to you by friendly, efficient service. It's lovely.

Came with 4 others - booked table before coming. Efficient service , plenty of hot water top ups, great quality food. Nice ambiance . Mostly full of women having lunch today.

Agh this was a busy little place for a late 11ish brunch on a Sunday. I took the boys here as it has a nice little royal vibe. Full of queens and princess and I don't men of the Royal family variety. However there was also a taste of the European with some very cute little families in from Denmark or Sweden. I'm rubbish at geography so apologies. Anyway my little lad had an absolutely amazing milk shake. Dear god that was on orgasm in a glass. That's sounds wrong as he simply said it was very yummy. I'm embellishing for the reader. I also had a gorgeous latte. Whipped to perfection and nice and hot. My lad had a tower of pancakes. My tip here is order maple syrup as oddly it doesn't come with the pancakes we ordered and took a while to arrive after we asked for it. I had a fabulous eggs Benedict. Eggs done just how I like them. downton Abbey style. Ha. My mouth is watering thinking about them. The big lad had a RT version of Rarebit which on paper sounded gorgeous bit in reality was a disaster. Too much sloppy mustard not enough grilled Cheese. Such a shame as well the bread was delicious. This my dear friends is why it got a 4 not a 5. Anyway if you're about on a Sunday and fancy feeding. Pop in. Alone in a couple or even a group. I promise you that it will be a fun experience.

Certainly quirky. My friends and I went on Valentines' day, and that was probably why the scones weren't as nice as my friend said they usually were.

I came in here with high expectations and they were not met, after ordering it took 20 minutes to get my food. The Omelette was satisfactory but not worth the high price and long wait. I also had an Iced Tea, I nomally love Iced Tea however here it tasted just like water, a cup of tea gone cold with Ice thrown in. They also got my order wrong, after 20 minutes I got my omlette without my toast and then I had to wait a few minutes for that and then about a minute for butter. I am very dissapointed. There were times where they was a very nice, cheesy bite of the omlette but them times were few, it was mostly bland.

I visited The Richmond Tea Rooms in the heart of the Gay Village yesterday at about 5pm and it was packed! We had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. It gave us a chance to look around at the quirky, vintage style decor. Once we were shown to our table we had menus straight away but after that we constantly had to keep asking the staff for things. I know they were busy but we got the feeling they were avoiding eye contact. Once our order was eventually placed we waited about half an hour for food to arrive. We were just about to enquire as to how much longer we would have to wait when it miraculously appeared. I ordered the avocado, bacon and blue cheese salad which was quite pleasant. The bacon was lovely and crispy and contrasted well with the avocado which was beautifully soft. My friend had the Croque Monsieur which she struggled to finish. Be warned the portions are massive! The afternoon teas did look delicious, the Alice in Wonderland themed decor is novel and it is an interesting place to people watch. I spotted tourists, students, ladies who lunch etc. If I were to return I would probably choose a different time of day when it is maybe not so busy. Their themed cabaret evenings look like fun too!

This is definitely a place to visit... It's quite indulgent but a guilty pleasure. It can be a very busy place and quite hard to get a table but worth waiting for one to come available. Staff are generally very pleasant but at times are quite rushed. Quality can change at times also and they put this down to busy periods which does puzzle me as the stands / quality should not change from quiet to busy periods but even with this it is a nice place to come with it quirky environment. The Queens Tea is a must try but make sure they give you the big scones not the cheep little ones as you don't get a discount, this is one of the areas they say busy periods compromise there quality !!! Even with this I still rate it 4 out of 5 for a good place for a naughty treat.

Meh? Gay? Schmay? Who cares? Got taken for "afternoon tea" at nine o'clock at night by my girlfriend. Errrm? Wow! What a place. If they were going for the whole "stepping through the looking glass" thing, then they got that spot on. Like stepping back in time to a land of fantasy. The food was outstanding. (Can sandwiches and scones be outstanding? YES! yes, they can!) The staff were impecibly smart, courteaous, and attentive. You know what? They looked like they ACTUALLY wanted to be there rather than the normal in eateries these days. Guys n Gals....if you are in Manchester....you HAVE to pay this place a visit. You won't regret it. Venue: Jane Austen style! Pretty cute venue and they have a wonderful girly decor (but could be overwhelming!) If you want to hang out with your girly friends and drink some qualitive tea then definitely come here. It's a really delightful place to be in and to escape from reality for a while. (Unfortunately it was crowded around 2 pm and it can be loud when there is a big group of elderly women in the same room) The staff is attentive and nice but were a bit stressed out when I arrived around 2 pm. However, all in all a cute fairyland tea place with comfy chairs.

Lovely feel to the place. Like really stepping into Wonderland. Even with the music. Staff can be smiley and helpful but I find when I was a regular that all dropped. Great atmosphere and patient staff.

Thanks to other yelpers, I visited this fun tea room while visiting Manchester! It indeed looks like Mad Hatter's tea party. Not only the decor but food and tea were also great. We ended up sharing a big smoked salmon sandwich plate for dinner with tea and a huge scone. (yes, open at night!)

Wow! A fridge bulging full of scrumptious looking cakes, and a menu bursting with types of black and green teas! The setting is lovely, really cosy, with a bit of decadence about the decor. I went for the "cream tea" option, called "Alice tea" here and the scone was tasty, the Assam suitably flavoursome. My tea buddy was very happy with their crumble, custard and Kwazulu tea too. There are four choices of afternoon teas so this is the spot to treat a friend on a special occasion. The staff are very nice and helpful. Also, there's the adjoining cocktail bar which could be just the thing to cure the too-much-tea jitters! The prices are not really for those on a budget and perhaps the addition of some white or other teas to the menu would be good but I'll definitely be back! c*

This is a fab venue for birthdays,meeting friends etc and very good on bad weather days as the Alice in Wonderland theme makes you smile. All the cakes are wonderful and it is difficult to chose which one! A good and interesting selection of sandwiches which makes a good lunch along with the homemade soup. I always recommend this venue to people looking for somewhere different for lunch or afternoon tea. Next door is the bar, all dark wood and comfortable, a lovely atmosphere where you can carry on socialising once the tearoom closes. Only downside is occassionaly the service is a bit forgetful but they do get very busy so I always forgive them.
