Rick's Cafe Americain

I visited Ricks Cafe and overall really enjoyed the experience. The place itself is a whole vibe, especially at night with a great atmosphere and a lovely balcony area. The food looked amazing and was nice, although I would say it was more on the average side in terms of taste. The drinks were great with so many different options to choose from. The highlight of the evening was definitely the service. The night shift manager was absolutely amazing, so friendly and attentive, and honestly the best service I have had in a long time.

The theme of the food & decor is Moroccan, which I knew but the name of the restaurant implies differently. Be aware. We sat on the roof terrace, a great covered table sheltered from the sun with an open view toward table mountain. Service was very friendly. The drinks menu is never ending, that decision takes the first 15 minutes alone - a swimming pool cocktail it is, at a great happy hour price. Food was delicious and plentiful. We spent a happy 3 hours enjoying 2 courses, cocktails and the view.

We just had dinner at Americans Café in Gardens, South Africa (Clove Street), and it was absolutely fantastic! We had a beef fillet that was cooked to perfection — super tender, full of flavor, served with delicious vegetables and herb butter — as well as a typical Moroccan dish that was also incredibly tasty and very reasonably priced. A special thank you goes to Charles, our waiter, who gave us an amazing wine recommendation. The wine was honestly one of the best we’ve ever had, and his recommendation matched our taste perfectly. On top of that, the service was outstanding — truly one of the best we’ve ever experienced, far better than in most restaurants in Germany. Thank you so much, Charles, for making this evening so wonderful!

We were on our way to another well known restaurant just down the road when the rooftop at Rick's drew my attention. We went in for drinks and lunch, and to enjoy the views of Cape Town and Table Mountain. The rooftop deck is fantastic, as is the rest of the venue's decor. Service is professional and friendly, and prices were on par with my expectations. The only drawback for some might be that you cannot bring your own wine. I ordered the lemon chicken tagine, which exceeded my expectations especially with regards to portion size. The next visit will be on a perfect summer's evening for sure!

Amazing place, a must see. Great views from the roof with heaters and solid music choices, waiters were exceptional very friendly and funny. Had the spicy seafood mix blew my mind. The middle floors are quite chill as well some couches and the like to sit back and relax, something for everyone

Great place to visit. We were on the first floor( table of 12). Food was 4 out of five. Waitrons were very friendly but also very, very slow. Ground floor live band ( Roy and the Ricksters) weres absolutely great. Will most definiely return on a Friday and Saturday for the music.

My wife and I visited Cape Town from Montreal, Canada last year, and we stumbled upon this restaurant. It was the best thing that happened to us that day. Her lamb tajine was well cooked and superbe, I had an oxtail tajine that was a tad bit not cooked to perfection, my wife was marvellous! We are on our way back to Cape Town and will definitely repay a visit! Good job, nice atmosphere and view on the rooftop! Kudos to the staff!

The service was great till we had to wait a while for the bill and to pay. Great vibe, view and atmosphere but the food was sadly a huge let down. Ordered a few different options to share and only one dish was enjoyable. Flavors are not balanced and actual dishes are not clearly thought out and executed. If you going just for drinks and snacks and a vibe then yeah it would be great. But don't go hungry
