Room was clean and spacious considering that you are in Japan. And it’s in a great location;not far from the station, morning markets etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks. FYI 1)Google maps directed us to their back door close to the car park and not the main entrance. If google maps sends you close to the car park ,that’s not the main entrance. Just walk through the car park to the next street close by and hopefully you will see the main entrance but some short videos has been added to this review to help make sense of my explanation. 2)once inside the inn before doing the stairs, you will have yo remove your shoes and wear their slippers that’s there(the slippers has been worn by others but sun cleaned etc) 3)They might give you restaurant suggestions but I will encourage to just go around the area because there’s many good restaurants few kilometers from the inn and you will enjoy the walk and discover. So note that many restaurants are close before 9pm and might require booking in advance but you might find exceptions which happened to us. 4)Inside the Inn,you have souvenirs that you can buy and a free hot water to make your tea in that hall leading to the room doors 5)You can leave your luggage after checkout but at your own risk. The staff will keep an eye if they are there but not always.

We stayed at Rickshaw Inn as a family of 4 in May 2024 for 2 nights while exploring Takayama. We stayed in the large Sakura room, which was by far the most spacious room we had during our whole trip to Japan. There were 4 futon set out for us, a large seating area, and it was very comfortable. The front staff was super kind and gave us some nice recommendations on restaurants in the area, getting around, and helped arrange parking there when we decided to rent a car for this portion of our trip. ||The location was very convenient too. We had no problems getting to all the areas around town we wanted to see (though we were glad to have the rental car to get to places like Hida no Sato and further afield--possible by bus, but easier to drive) and there were a ton of restaurants in the area as well. ||We absolutely loved Takayama and really want to go back, so we'd definitely consider staying here again.

The location of this place is amazing, close to the morning markets and the many restaurants takayama has to offer. The staff are extremely friendly, giving us recommendations and even helping us take a photo when we left! Inside is a cute communal lounge with stamps and information exchange in which you can write notes on the hidden gems and even just write things about your adventures or yourself! There’s also a kitchen too so that if you ever are staying for a long period of time you can cook up your own breakfast or you can buy some hida beef from the local butcher’s/ grocers and cook it up yourself (if you can’t bring meat back overseas) The rooms were spacious and cozy and the futons were comfortable that I had a good nights rest after a long day of walking

One of highlights for my trip to Japan last time is this place. Great aesthetic, spacious room, comfortable, i cant list everything its too good. I accidently left 2 bags on the Shinkansen Toyama Station while on the way to this Inn, the JR staffs at the station were not quite as helpful. Our bags ended up at Tsuruga Station, which is 3 hours car-drive away from Takayama. But the owner of Rickshaw Inn, Suzuki San, helped us making multiple phone calls to JR customer service, and he was able to get JR Tsuruga Station to mail our bags to our next Hotel in Osaka. I cant thank you enough Suzuki San 🙇‍♂️ Anyway, all of you reading this, must try this Inn.

The hotel is located in the best part of the city. Close to everything you need and want to see. The host suggested some really nice restaurants as was very helpful. The room was nice and tidy, and the inn provides amenities like shampoo, tooth brush and paste, razor, etc. The inn also has a laundry where you can clean your clothes for a price. My only complain was that the tatami room had a strong smell whenever we arrived from our day out, but nothing that opening the windows for a few minutes didn't solve.

It is a wonderful Japanese Style Room with private bathroom. Room was clean and quite spacios with a separate toilet and shower area. Room is equipped with a humidifer and additional heater (in additon to air conditioner) which were very nice and helpful with the harsh winter weather in Takayama. There are shared kitchen (no fridge nor kettle in the private room) and shared coined laundry and dryer. The dryer did not dry the clothes properly, we ended up having to airdry the clothes. The staff was very helpful, however was only onsite during checkin time only. There is a space at the front foyer behind the shoerack to leave luggages. The location is quite strategic near the Old Town, although quite a distance from train station (approx 15mins walk). There are many good japanese restaurants and izakaya nearby. There are a supermarket and conbini nearby.

We stayed here for two nights. Initial confusion as thought we'd booked a private bathroom, however my room was right next to the communal bathroom and toilet so not a problem. The room felt spacious after all the other standard hotels we'd stayed in on our journey. Bed was comfortable, a heater and de-humidifier covers all weathers, a small sink in the corner. There was a warm, homely feel about the place. Traditionally decorated with a comfortable lounge to relax where tea/ coffee is available and lots of books, magazines and newspapers, jazz playing in the background completed the picture. Breakfast can also be served in the lounge if you want it. Remove shoes as you arrive and flip flops available to wear in the hotel. Quite a lot of stairs to negotiate so not ideal if you have a problem with that though the staff were happy to carry bags if necessary. They have good English and are exceptionally helpful. Very convenient for exploring Takayama and very good value for money.
