Stopped here on a whim to grab lunch after attending the Farmer’s Market. Ricochet Tacos did not disappoint. The historic interior has a “pop culture” vibe that makes the place interesting and comfortable to visit.
However, the food is what makes Ricochet Tacos a gem of Valparaiso’s downtown area. All the food is made to order and can be customized to your particular tastes. Our server was more than helpful in explaining the menu and the difference between the two we were given.
For starters, we ordered the guacamole and chips. The guacamole tasted fresh with an excellent blends of spices (some other guacamole’s can have too much garlic or limes) and the chips seemed freshly made with just a hint of salt. Plus, you get more than enough chips. Perfect appetizer to start off the meal.
For entrees I ordered the Uncle Rico burrito (minus the beans) and my wife ordered Handle Bar burrito. (Yes, we went to a taco place and ordered burritos-don’t judge us) Mine was done to perfection with a creamy egg, crispy tortillas and a wonderful bleak of sausage, sauce, cheese and spices. I cannot overemphasized how important blending of tastes and spices are to me. Some other places give you a plate of one flavor, be it salsa, heat, guacamole or just sour cream. Ricochet Tacos does not do that. I enjoyed my entree from the first bit to the last.
I did taste my wife’s entree as well. Very tasty and well seasoned. The skirt steak filling was tender and flavorful and the rice was well cooked and seasoned perfect. The only downside of the Handle Bar was the cilantro. A bit too much for our liking, but it does scrape off easily.
The portions are perfect to a ‘good eater’ like myself. In addition, the prices are pretty good. Maybe out of the range of a struggling college student for everyday eating, but well worth a splurge once in a while. Our bill, which had no drinks from the bar, with tax and a good (20%) tip was $40.
We highly recommend Ricochet Tacos if you’re in the area.
