Rietvlei Nature Reserve

A great place to be and see the wildlife buffalo,rhinoceros, crocs. Lots of zebras, ostriches etc. The price is fair, at R79 for adults and kids do enter for free. The roads on the reserve are good, however some parts may require a re touch. The river or dam water in some sections smells which could be an indication of sewage. There is a nice picnic area with braai facilities, water and benches where one can sit. Toilets were clean and had toilet paper which is good. Thank you the management of this reserve and people/for keeping it clean. I did not see litter in all sections. Ticket purchase was swift with the staffs in a happy mood. We will definitely come again and again since its close to home-PTA City and for the price.

Great for a public nature reserve! Going there a few times a year. Excellent service, with roads that are generally well maintained. You can see a wide variety of wildlife no matter the day of the week, including white rhinos, cape buffalos, elands, waterbucks, impalas, zebras, ostriches, jackals, and plenty of different species of birds.

From morning to late afternoon, it was amazing! Rhinos, zebras, water buffalo, tortoises, we saw them all and more! Not too many other cars. Loved our day and would definitely return!

It was a pleasant experience. Innitially we only saw a few animals, like ostridge, a fox, and I think its a Hartebees, but then we found an abundance of animals, especially around the Jakkalsdraai road, that is on your right hand side when you enter the main gate. The Zebras were the best because they are playfull. Also Wildebeest. The scenery is beautiful. It felt as if we were in the bosveld. It was drizzling, but we were still able to go out with raincoats, whereever we were allowed to exit the vehicle. The Lookout stations were topnotch, it was sponsored by "friends of Rietvlei".Unfortunately we couldn't see hippos. . We ordered an omelette at the restaurant/house with memorabillia dated back to the 1900's. I think it's best if you pre- book with the wildlife rangers, they know all the hotspots. I will surely go back again, cause you can braai at the picnic site

Close to town but it feels like a small bush day. We rolled the windows down, followed gravel tracks along the water, and sat quietly when the plains opened up. A white rhino sighting turned the whole car into kids for five minutes. Picnic spots are simple and the light is lovely toward evening. You leave dust-coated and happy.

The old homestead, the coffee shop needs care. The sovenier shop is shocking. The food was good. The toilets were clean and had toilet paper. The animals are lovely healthy and we saw all the rhinoceros and many different animals. Plenty birds. Nature is stunning beautiful. Not yet seen the picnic area. The lookout points are excellent. So are the toilets at the lookout points. They are well maintained and kept immaculate clean.

We went in at 6:30 this morning, no waiting and very helpfull staff. Once in we start at Jakals drive and worked our way towards the coffee shop. Got their 7H30 and it was closed. I phoned the main gate and they said they will call them. We went back at 8 and the guy came to unlock the gate. We went into the old house / coffee shop the waiter came and took the drinks order stating the cheff will be on site in 15 min. Just after 9 they came to take our order and at 9:45 we got our food. The food itself was not bad at all, the service was bad and full of sorries and stories. I will go back to the pack but the coffee shop will not see me again. The park itself had a few bad roads (potholes) but the animals we saw was in good condition.We did not see any wardhogs or giraff in the park.

What a pleasant surprise!!! Right on our doorstep and yet I have not frequented the reserve before. It was so easy to get into the reserve, staff were helpful and friendly and it was a day that was really relaxing to view the game and try to spot those elusive cheetahs. Visit the picknic spot, it is so tranquil but get there early if you want a good spot. The old farm house now operating as a restautant needs some tlc. I see how specific little trinkets can produce a steady flow of cash for the reserve from those who want a souvenir.
