This Charming Region Was Named Europe’s Most Overlooked Winter Getaway Destination

"A museum focused on the town’s distinctive Art Nouveau architecture, interpreting the story of how the colorful buildings were rebuilt in that style after a devastating 1904 fire. It provides context on local history and design, making it a rewarding indoor stop that complements views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains and fjords during a winter visit." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. A great museum. Inside, there are not only rooms and objects, but also interactive displays, as well as staff dressed in the style of the time, telling stories and creating an atmosphere.

It is an ideal place to see the living conditions of a wealthy Latvian family in past centuries. Here you can not only see the living conditions, but also additional exhibits related to the history of the city. The building itself is built in the Art-Nouveau architectural style, and from the window you can see many buildings built in this style.

The Art Deco museum wasn’t very special. The museums in Brussels are far more impressive. There was an exhibition about Art Deco in Groningen, which felt odd without any explanation. I missed some depth instead it seemed mostly focused on mass tourism.

A stunning glimpse into early 20th-century life! The Riga Art Nouveau Centre is beautifully preserved, full of intricate detail, and offers a unique insight into the Art Nouveau period. Located in architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns’s former home, it’s like stepping into a time capsule. Don’t miss the spiral staircase!

I do appreciate the building and the whole street for their art nouveau heritage, but I must say the museum was rather underwhelming. The downstairs was a temporary exhibit with more information on the objects on display upstairs. I thought the rooms weren't designed particularly well, so you don't gain much by visiting the museum itself. The building is worth seeing though -- the staircase sure looks beautiful, which you can see before buying a ticket.

The museum takes you into a fascinating tour back to the early nineteen hundreds with the house as it was at the time. The exhibits are beautifully set up to take you from the living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, and even an original bathroom. The staircase is the most incredible staircase I have had the privilege of photographing.

I initially had trouble finding the museum entrance; I went upstairs at first, but later noticed the museum banner on the first floor. It’s a lovely place with very friendly staff. I was impressed by their outfits and even took some photos with them. I also tried on the costumes, which was a lot of fun. It’s definitely worth a visit when exploring Riga’s Art Nouveau district.

Nothing special and slightly freaked out by people in costume - 5 rooms to see and not very worthwhile. Best part is outside the museum - the staircase
