This is a great museum. Yes there are a lot of copies and yes there is a ton to read, but it is extremely interesting. Just give yourself enough time to walk around the mounts, read all and in the museum, just grab a chair and stop to read and watch the videos. If you will run through it, of course you'll have the impression it is a weak museum. Take your time. Believe me, you will learn a lot.

Caught one of the tours. Have lots of good information and answered a ton of questions from my kids. The parking lot is just before the Google directions to the site but an easy walk from the museum parking lot.

Absolutely nothing original ! Its ALL replicas. Its small and wont teach you anything you cant read in 5 min. about Uppsala! What a dissappointment. This is the center of the viking beliefsystem "Asetro" and its a small and very pointless museum with nothing authentic. Its basically a scam and as a Dane, its really dissapointing

I've visited all the museums in Uppsala and can say this is probably the weakest. Very few artefacts which are actually copies, you read information on the walls which is not listed chronologically so it's hard to follow, basically saw everything in 30 min and was left thinking 'is this what we paid 600 kr (4 people) for?!'. Didn't learn anything new about vikings, 70% of the museum is a playground for kids and people keep walking on the burial mounds even though it's not permitted. This should be better protected by a museum that charges so much. Hopefully they will improve this place in the future because the history is so rich and the location is absolutely beautiful.

Before you buy your ticket, go to the info stand in the corner on the left (inside). (See photo) There are QR codes to YouTube explainers of the history, paper maps of the area, information about the summer program, among other things. Great museum for children, with interactive displays and a dress-up corner. It’s a fairly small museum. I got around all the exhibits in under an hour. It would take a lot longer with children. Prices (2024) in photos. Gift shop has some beautiful things.

Extremely disappointing. You can see everything in under 5 minutes — and that’s being generous. It barely qualifies as a museum; there’s almost nothing to look at. Just a few displays, minimal information, and no real effort to make the experience engaging or educational. Definitely not worth the price — it should be free considering how little is there. Save your time and money, this place is a complete letdown.

Really nice museum with expert guides. The museum is highly recommended, if you want to learn about Swedish ancient history. Definitely worth the visit!

Yelp
Medieval Scandinavians held Gamla Uppsala ("Old Uppsala") as one of the oldest and most important locations in Scandinavia. We visited Gamla Uppsala to visit the Viking burial mounds there last week when we were in Uppsala for a day. The three large mounds ("The Royal Mounds") date to the 5th and 6th centuries and were once thought to be resting places of the Norse gods the three gods Thor, Odin and Freyr. You can visit the museum, which provides helpful context when you walk around the burial mounds. It's two stories. Not huge, but not small. There are some interactive displays and everything in the museum was available in Swedish and English. Then take a walk around the mounds. It's pretty incredible to be somewhere with such history and meaning. It's well worth a visit to learn some medieval Scandinavian history!
