On the Grid : Mount-Pleasant & Riley Park

"Mount Pleasant is an arty, young neighborhood where a prank (Dude Chilling Park) can become official public art. By day, visitors and locals alike gravitate to the vintage shops, creative boutiques, and charming cafés. By night the vibe is similarly magnetic - inventive cocktails, craft beer, and satisfying eats of all stripes are always just a few steps away." - Hyperakt

I went to the Harvest Moon Festival. It was an excellent venue. Great band, everyone was dancing. Food, wine & beer were available for purchase. Farmington put on a wonderful event.

Awesome place to relax in the heart of downtown for free. Farmers market on Saturday , Skating rink during winter and Friday evening events throughout the year are key features of this place. Connect 4 game and bean bag toss with lots of chairs and benches in the park are available for anytime use.

My 2nd time coming here to attend the festival Bèl Bagay Lakay by the Haitian Network Group of Detroit . Friendly atmosphere and the proximity to local shops makes it convenient. Definitely an experience to recommend.

Went up there with friends to see Major Dudes! Great band! Place was packed by the time we got there, so we listened from across the street! Bring your own chairs and drinks!

Nice outdoor activity for the kids with a heated space for nonskaters to wait. Not as good as downtown Detroit but also better in other ways. Less of a crowd, available bathrooms, and plenty of shopping nearby.

This is absolutely the best free rink I have ever been to. It’s even better than campus martius! They are refrigerated and I don’t think there’s a Zamboni but the community keeps out smooth and they have shovels there for you. They even have nice party lights strung up for an awesome vibe. It’s refrigerated soo it’s open when it’s warm or snowy when others wouldn’t be. They don’t have skate rental but they have a huge selection of used community skates to choose from for free. They are open mid December through February with special party nights on weekends. Sun-Thursday open til 10 pm and 11pm Friday and Saturday!

I love the downtown Farmington Riley Park area it's such a great area that many people in the community seem to enjoy on a daily basis. Ever since Mr Riley donated money for this area to be rebuilt from a basic shopping parking lot it has become the heart of the downtown. Every season the park is used to make fun memories for anyone who comes.

Yelp
My husband, and I, attend concerts there in the summer. There's ice skating in the winter. It's a nice gathering place.

Yelp
Bumpiest Ice Rink Ever I'm a decent skater. I only really fall when I push myself too hard. However, this rink is incredibly bumpy, even for an outdoor rink. When I was by myself on the rink, I was able to maintain a speed that took away the majority of the bumps effects. However, when others entered the rink, I had issues. Of course I had to slow down but then my blades caught every bump. I ended up taking a huge fall that caused my ankle to sprain. If I were at a standard indoor ice rink, I wouldn't have fallen. If there is no one at the rink and you are a confident skater, then you might be fine. Though it is not meant to have a bunch of people on the rink.

Yelp
Great Farmers market 9-2 on Saturdays in season. Music on Fridays at 7 all summer and Ice skating at the rink in winter. Even with the rain the market was great this weekend. Got lots of veggies and amazing strawberries.

Yelp
Fun place with games and music... but be aware that the local cops are VERY aggressive in writing tickets, so you need to get out of there fast, and can't visit any local businesses unless you want a ticket.

Yelp
What a nice little place to hang out when in downtown Farmington. This park is set up for all seasons. Farmers Market spring through Fall, Ice rink in winter. This is also a great location to just relax and snack during the Farmington Founders Festival. I still take a stroll through here when I run downtown every weekend. There's also some nice food restaurant selections to grab a bite then chill in the Park and enjoy your meal. Jason M. posted some great pictures.
