11 Places That Honor the Victims of 9/11

"Beyond the fire engine red gates in a remote area of Kinsale, lies a beautiful garden of 343 trees set in a breathtaking view of the Irish countryside.   The garden is dedicated to the firefighters and Chaplain that died on September 11, 2001.  As you walk down the neatly planted rows, you will be touched by each and every tree, each one adorned with a firefighter’s name and personal memorabilia left behind by family, friends, and complete strangers.    Even more unique to this story is how the memorial came to be. It’s the story of Kathleen Cait Murphy. Murphy, originally from Kinsale, moved to New York City and worked as a nurse for over 30 years. During that time, she became friends with many of the FDNY firefighters, including their Chaplain Father Mychal Judge and was devastated by their loss.   After her retirement, she returned home to Kinsale where she knew she wanted to honor those that had died. She used her own land, and with the help of family and friends, planted 343 trees in their honor. Sadly, Murphy died in 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.  The garden has evolved into a powerful memorial to Murphy and those who died." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Our driver surprised us with this stop. It is simply awe-inspiring to see. As an American, words can not explain how you feel, seeing this for the first time. Buses can not get to this spot very easily so having a car or driver is the best way to see this. Donation are excepted and appreciated.

Nestled atop a hill overlooking Kinsale, this garden brings tears to the eyes of visitors who remember so many firefighters, police, EMS and civilians who were killed in NYC 9/11/2001. A must visit for all. Never forget.

Always a moving experience to visit this garden of remembrance. We visited my wife’s friend (FDNY Capt Billy Burke Jr) who lost his life in the North Tower. For some reason, there are two trees baring his name. We’ve notified the garden.

I would find this very hard not to give this special place 5 stars , the thought , love and care that’s put into this Garden is so meaningful.. I pass this at least twice a day , every day … and the stream of visitors that visit reinforces that .. Each and every person that is etched/mentioned will always be remembered as heroes and special people that lay down their lives for their fellow Human beings …

I am a third generation FDNY, and became one of the survivors of 9/11. I wish I can say the same for my brothers of Engine 40 Ladder 35 who made the supreme sacrifice
