Fantastic museum! Definitely do the tour. Great guide who stole us the history, and played multiple songs on different instruments.

Lovely music museum containing so many instruments in a chronological order. The main part can be visited during the normal working hours and you can click on the displayed buttons to hear how some of the exhibited instruments sound (a very practical touch). But you may wish to find out when they offer guided tours, as part of the museum is only open for the public with a guide, which really makes all the difference. We were lucky to catch such a guided tour, and the guide was amazing, took us through all the rooms while playing some of the instruments. The cafe is not good. If on time, I recommend taking the 15 min stroll towards the fjord and enjoy some good coffee and food at Sponhuset. If you really need a coffee here, don't take the espresso - maybe the Norwegian filter coffee is better. :)

The most fascinating museum I have ever visited. It is absolutely worth a visit if you have the opportunity. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and such talented musicians in their own right. Our guide for the day was a charming young man, a classical musician and student (who did tell us his name but I unfortunately can't recall it - he had mentioned it was hard to pronounce but is all I can recall) and this excellent chap played many of the instruments for us as part of the tour. His knowledge was incredible and his ability to play beautiful classical pieces, with his eyes closed no less, on each historic instrument was incredible to watch. The home and instruments are beautifully preserved and maintained, and clearly loved and respected by the staff. This was an excursion booked through a cruise I took just this month and I have to say it was one of my favourites. Cruising through the Norwegian Fjords was a treat in itself, but The Ringve was an experience I will never forget.

Absolutely one of the best Museum visits I've made in Norway. It's slightly out of the way in Trondheim, but an easy reach with the bus. The Museum is set in acres of Botanic Garden. I was there on a Summer Saturday and possibly because it was sunny and all the locals were at the beach, I was one of maybe a dozen visitors. There was a live concert in the gallery I was one of two in the audience and on the guided tour, in the older part of the museum, the guides, Music students from the local university, played Beethoven and Chopin on the period pianos and other instruments. Truly it was a bit magic.

A bit small but nice place and collection! The staffs are also super friendly. They also have spot where you can play the instruments

The music museum was a surprise find on our northbound Hurtigruten trip. It is a mile and a half from the terminal and we visited on a ship's excursion. The guided museum trip takes you through the instrument collection, from a 17th century clavichord to a self-playing piano that Edvard Grieg worked with. The guide plays several of the instruments, so it is a chance to compare their sounds.

A lovely museum in super surroundings. Take a guided tour so you can see the house and experience the guide playing the instruments to illustrate the passage of music history. The other parts of the museum are also interesting especially where you hear some of the sounds they produce. Some car parking in the grounds. For underground parking try the City Lade (3 hours free parking, validate at machine in shopping mall above escalator before leaving) and then walk to the Museum.

Amazing antique Norwegian musical instruments and furnishings. Guides play instruments as they take you on a guided tour. Botanical gardens are beautiful. A very nice time for anyone that appreciates the arts. Provide enough time to enjoy.
