Best Tour of Japan with Pulitzer Prize-winning Author Andrew Sean Greer

"When Woodruff sees our hotel for the night, she is pleased; Shiki Juraku is an homage to classic architecture, with a contemporary, sculptural gate and a quiet walkway between guest rooms in dark-timbered town houses. We enjoyed long baths in the tub, looking out at the Australian ferns in the garden." - Travel + Leisure Editors

David Coggins Wants You to Smile at TSA Agents

"Another time, I was staying in Kyoto at Shiki Juraku, and had made sure to get to know all of the staff by name during my stay. Just after I checked out, an intense storm hit. Flights were delayed, trains were canceled. The whole country came to a halt. It was chaos. Our plans were changed and we found ourselves needing a room that night. They let us shift our stay for no extra charge."

Kyoto, Beyond the Temples and Shrines

"This is hands down the best boutique hotel in Kyoto. Each room is actually a miniature wooden house."

The hotel is situated in a quiet neighbourhood that allows you to enjoy some tranquility and away from the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions and busy streets. The hotel is also just a few minutes walk away from the Marutamachi underground station. The hotel staff were attentive, warm and very helpful. Staying here made me feel completely at home. The apartment is well maintained and captures the traditional features beautifully. The lounge is also a great place to unwind and fuel after a busy day of sightseeing with the variety of snacks they offer. Would definitely coming back to stay here again when I visit Kyoto.

Rinn Shiki Juraku is such a lovely property. The staff is professional, friendly and helpful. The Townhouse 5 is so spacious, with a comfortable bed. We were very pleased that the TV supported Netflix for watching a series after a busy day exploring. The bathtub is huge and takes over an hour to fill. You must check on the water temperature halfway through because the hot water runs out and the tub will fill with ice-cold water. The air conditioners are also a bit noisy. The reception area offers earplugs if you are sensitive to noise while sleeping. The location is good for walking to Nijo Castle, which is a recommended tourist attraction (and worth it). Other areas such as Fushimi Inari or Gion, it is recommended to use Uber or the metro.Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.

Amazing place. The staff is super nice and can speak English. The room was clean and quite spacious. The wood tub with a view onto a mini garden was my favorite. They provide a light breakfast, snacks and alcohol (all included). The hotel is also within walking distance of the Kyoto Imperial Palace

Loved staying at Rinn Shiki Juraku in Kyoto. The neighbourhood was calm and peaceful but only a short ride into the main downtown area. The lounge with all day snacks and drinks was great. Perfect for when you’ve had a busy day but just want a quiet beer or wine before bedtime. The ‘houses’ were simply furnished but spotlessly clean and included so many toiletries and little extras. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was nothing we didn’t like.

A lovely place to stay, away from the more crowded areas in Gion or central Kyōto. This was not an issue for us, since we ended up taking taxis to the Kyōto station for day trips. The hotel team is extremely helpful, in making suggestions, reservations and even helping out beyond that with tips in other areas in Japan. We stayed there for 5 nights, felt very comfortable. The rooms, due to bedroom being upstairs, feel spacious and have a beautiful style. We felt extremely welcome and look forward to coming again.

What a pleasant surprise to find such a lovely hotel in Kyoto that's close to public transportation but in a quiet alley! There are only 10 units renovated from traditional homes that were 100 years old. Our unit is two stories with sleeping quarters and shower, bath tub, vanity upstairs. The toilet is downstairs and the living room has a lovely patio view of plants . The place is very clean with hardwood floors. The spacious sleeping quarter has tatami and sliding doors. The hotel provides a breakfast every morning. It's really amazing! It's very refreshing, good ingredients and they have the most delicious bread and jam made out of seasonal fruit! The staff are very courteous and helpful. I enjoyed my stay very much!

I absolutely love this place! It’s in a central quiet neighborhood within walking distance of major attractions. The entire staff is knowledgeable about everything beautiful in Kyoto (as well as ALL of the amazing coffee shops!). I will definitely be planning a return trip!!!

Had the most wonderful two weeks staying here, it's so peaceful, within walking distance of supermarkets as well as Nishiki Market. The staff are amazing and very welcoming, and the hotel is truly a gem. I was rather sad to leave, but hopefully, I can return one day.
