I recently had an excellent experience at Rio Grande Regional Hospital and would highly recommend it. The most outstanding aspect of my stay was the great staff. From the nurses and technicians to the administrative personnel, every individual I encountered demonstrated genuine care and professionalism. They truly go above and beyond in their efforts to ensure patient comfort and well-being. Their consistent attentiveness made a significant difference in my recovery, as I always felt my needs were being anticipated and addressed promptly. Beyond the exceptional care, the physical aspects of the hospital were also impressive: Cleanliness: The rooms were exceptionally clean, and the overall environment of the hospital felt well-maintained and hygienic, which is very reassuring. Food: I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals; the food is great! It was healthy, well-prepared, and a welcome change from typical hospital fare. Rio Grande Regional Hospital provides a high standard of medical care coupled with a deeply compassionate and efficient approach.

SHAMEFUL! We recently had a two week experience at this hospital. Let me begin by telling you they have the best ICU staff we have ever encountered. And that’s saying quite a bit as we are coming from top hospitals on the West Coast. The ICU professionalism is next level. 👍 Their patient care is personal and heartfelt. You are not just another patient. You are a human in their eyes. And they do everything in their power while you are under their care. Unfortunately, the hospital‘s corporation follows the PERVERSE PROFIT OVER PATIENT model to the detriment of every human walking in there. We will be penning a letter to the state board as we have taken plenty of photos of exposed rust on plumbing (In rooms in the ICU). Duct vents are filled with grime and bacteria breeding in the ICU rooms. This same “profit over patient” model means you also get substandard nutrient deficient food while you are there. Fries and chicken nuggets probably in seed oils. They don’t offer you honey only sugar. Sugary drinks. Sugary corn syrup, fruit juices. Sugar filled desserts. If you don’t have diabetes when you go into the hospital, you will when you leave. Farm to table does not exist. It is frozen foods. Rehydrated foods. Absolutely nothing locally sourced and nutrient dense. This is not a reflection of the Food service staff. Again they were professional, kind, and courteous. It is not their fault. They do not have healthy options. Even the basic things like honey to offer their patients instead of sugar were not available. . They did the best they could. It’s a sad state of affairs. My heart goes out to the staff who has to work under these conditions. They WANT to give the best care to patients only to have a greedy corporation tie their hands behind their back. Must be very frustrating. My heart goes out to the entire staff at Rio Grande Valley Hospital. You deserve better!

Sandra, RN I took my mom for a scheduled cardioversion at 10am. We arrived at 10:15am to the room. No one met us in the room to hook my mom up to the monitor. After more than 10 minutes, I ended up having to connect my mom to the monitor and take a set of vitals for her bc NO ONE DID. After about 10 more minutes, one person showed up, peeked in and said,’Oh! You already have vitals.’ Which was because I PERSONALLY had to do it myself. Dr. Lozano showed up a little after that to ask about anesthesia. The nurse SANDRA, RN who I found out was my mom’s nurse almost 2 HOURS later came to ask questions or do the medication reconciliation until 12:15p. This was after more than three people stuck my mom More than 6 times to get an IV. The med rec was done at 12:15 as the CL nurses and anesthesiologist were there at bedside waiting to get consent and take my mom to her procedure. Which all of this should have been done HOURS prior. At 1420, I arrived back to the room after the procedure and she STILL wasn’t connected to the monitor. So I HAD TO DO IT AGAIN. Why was she in her room by herself in the dark with no post procedure vitals taken per policy? At 1428: I had to Unclamp the IV fluid after the nurse hung the fluids and said that they needed to be run. I told the nurse there were no drips in the chamber so she needed to check the IV that took more than 4 people to start, so she hadn’t even checked if it was running. The nurse then flushed the line, however my mom ended up having blood pushed back into her IV very quickly and painfully because she said,’OWW!’ SANDRA should have clamped and then disconnected IV TUBING BEFORE flushing fluids in the line. MY MOM WAS Only offered the call light until 1444. So she hadn’t had anything explained to her ALL DAY. Complained to the charge nurse 1450. 1455: Charge RN Isidro came to follow up with us. -1505: Charge RN started ‘incidence’ report. I just wanted to get out of there FAST and NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. EVER. BOTH my mom And I have been nurses for more than 10 years and it was absolutely an absolutely HORRIBLE experience that should NOT have happened with the supposed high level of care, vigilance, and nursing excellence that should be given to ALL patients at ALL times. I would NEVER recommend this facility or poor nursing care to anyone EVER.

had my first born here. was nervous because i originally heard iffy things about this hospital but i couldn’t have asked for a better delivery. Olivia was the name of the nurse (i think that’s what she was) who helped me in the beginning and pretty much did the hard parts with me. i absolutely couldn’t have gotten through that without her being the absolute best at keeping me calm and feeling comfortable during something so uncomfortable lol. 10/10 experience and highly recommend to anyone giving birth lol

Don't bother going to the ER! Especially if you have plan G and medicare! They knew they'd get paid with or without seeing a neurosurgeon. Promised me I'd get to see a neurosurgeon if I stayed the night! 26 hours in that place, didn't see any neurosurgeon! Their medical records show nothing for the nerve pain I was having in my legs! Especially my ankles! Also nerve pain in both arms. What a crock of BS in this emergency room! Their medical records show they'd speak to me about smoking cessation patches, I'd most likely be allergic too! Didn't bother to find out about my allergies! Glue in patches could have methylisothiazolinone or rubber in them in which I'm allergic too! A rotating doctor came into my private room, with future doctors, and said I'd probably be referred to physical therapy! I'd already had 125 hours of physical therapy! He had no clue what was going on! The majority of that for cervical spine/whiplash! The next afternoon, I stood out in the hall of my private room with observation window 26 hours later., and told nurse on duty they quite literally were treating me for nothing!!!!!! Nurse came in to room to release me, and refused to give me a copy of the MRI of my cervical spine from the night before!! Their Cervical spine MRI didn't show the spondylolisthesis in several areas of my cervical spine! MEDICARE SCAM! Smoke and mirrors 😪 don't bother returning their call to your review, more smoke and mirrors! They can't fix what they're employee's already messed up!

Had great experience. From beginning to end, everyone was great. Went in for a heart checkup, stress test. Nurse V. Pena was incredible. Very informative, great professional bedside manner, and very comforting. And funny. I keep going back because of health staff and professional such as the ones I have encountered. Highly recommended!

I hope to never have to go back there again. The people were friendly and the area I needed to go to was clean. However to get there was a nightmare. The first time I drove around for 20 minutes to finally find a parking spot close enough to the front door, only to be told I could not have my scan done that day and had to reschedule. Two weeks later went back for the scan, drove around for half an hour trying to find parking. I had to park at the heart clinic, about three blocks away. For most people this might not have been a big deal, for myself it is a major problem, I have server pain in my left leg and lower back, it took me another 20 minutes to walk there due to having to stop and rest my leg a couple of times. That is why I have a handicap tag for my car. Thank god I allowed the extra time for the parking issues I discovered two weeks prior that this place has or I would have been late and reschedule again! NOT GOOD, there were about 15 to 20 empty doctor's parking closer to front door, maybe a block at the most. Something is wrong with that scenario, more patient parking, especially handicap spots, are needed closer to the front door or perhaps offer shuttle service.

The ICU staff is TOP SHELF! Absolutely the best of the best. But that’s where it ends. The hospital corporations PROFIT OVER PATIENT model is at a detriment to every patient in there. Mold in the rooms - rust on the plumbing - dirt and grime in all the vents. It’s perverse. Good luck finding a sterile bathroom that’s public. They don’t have enough anything including pillows, blankets, wash, rags, etc. The board should be ashamed of themselves.

Yelp
This has got to be the worst service ive had due to pain management. Apparently only one doctor is in charge of pain management for the whole hospital. hes very rude and refused me pain medication thats at my pain level. Im here for a blood disorder. i had to fire the first team that was assigned to my case. That being said, one of the nurses from the fired group was still involved in making decisions for me. i fired her, why is she still coming in with drs and examining me? i expressed my concerns to managers and patient advocate and none of them care. Skip this hospital if you are on long term care. They dont care about accommodating to your needs. They expect you to stay in pain and just eat and knock out.

Yelp
I went because I was showing signs of pre term labor and I was terrified considering it was too early for my baby. I went in at 2am and the staff in the ER were very nice and compassionate. In my room, the nurses were nothing but kind and answered my questions completely. I stayed for 2 days and the nurses were the absolute best I could ask for. I wasn't scared to ask questions and they were exceptionally friendly to me, and they never made me feel ignored. I can not thank the staff enough for their ability to be so compassionate and go above and beyond to help me understand everything I had questions about. Thank you to all the staff immensely, it's clear that they care about their patients.

Yelp
Rio Grande State Center had employees that abused me when I was a patient. My name is Saul Samuel Guajardo. I remember the names of the employees that beat me. I am willing to sign an NDA if they would reach out to me with an offer of money. BIG MONEY. I know you guys killed another patient in treatment and that family has been trying, but I am a patient who survived.

Yelp
Outstanding food and service in the cafeteria. The day I visited they were winning an award for best in quality across the hospital system. Based on the food and service the day I was there I can certainly see why they won.

Yelp
I'm giving this hospital 1 star because I literally had to. This use to be my favorite hospital, and now it's just so sickening how they have treated me. I was first here back in August for a blood transfusion (4 packs) and they treated me so good!! Maybe it was because I was close to dying, but it was still good. I had to come back in the ending of last month 10/2022 because I was having chest pain which resulted in me being admitted for chronic heart failure and THAT WAS A HORRIBLE experience. I was told I had 21 different things going on including CHF, fluid in the lungs and a new heart murmur I did not have back in August. After 6 extremely bad days here with the worlds shittest nurses exact Janet BIG PROPS TO HER. I finally said I wanted to leave because I didn't see any improvements. YOU would think I learned NOPE I'm back today 11/25/22 because my pcp works for the hospital and it's just more convenient that I'd come here. Reason obviously being for my heart failure I really had to use the bathroom and unfortunately for me it was on the other side of where they have me situated. As I'm wheeling myself to the bathroom (because no one came to see why my EKG, blood pressure cuff or pulse was beeping) I happened to pass by 3 men nurses and like women and NOT one asked why I was struggling or where I was even going. Once I finally was almost back to the room a doctor stops me and asks if I need help and why what my reason for being here was once I told her for heart failure she said "omg, why are you not being helped??!" Well that's a great fucking question!!! I'm over the bullshit remedial services they are offering here. Like wtf are you working in the health field if you clearly don't give a flying fuck. On a side note please get rid of Yvette the nurse on the 2nd floor my goodness her bedside manners suck!

Angelika D.

Yelp

Yelp
My father was admitted to this hospital a week ago due to a serious infection. He's been ill for a couple decades. When my mom called to come quickly because he was fading and we needed to make end of life decisions, I became so touched by the compassionate and caring nursing staff. The doctors were never rushing, stopped and listened, and answered questions. Any time we needed a nurse, I'd pop my head out in the hall and someone would come. We were never left or ignored. As he neared the end, nursing staff would come by and see us and check on us, and leave us as we had to make those decisions. No one rushed us or made us feel like we weren't doing the right thing. I was especially moved by the expressions of faith by each staff person. It was incredibly comforting. I'd like to especially thank Chris, Sam, Marylou, Belle, Dora, Sarah and most of all June. Dear kind June who made those final moments so peaceful. It's been a hard week, but I'd recommend the care and compassion of this hospital from the security guards and front desk, housekeeping, gift shop, cafeteria staff, respiratory techs, but most of all the doctors and nurses who cared for my dad.

Yelp
Brought my nephew in due to being hit at a baseball game. He's a sophomore and on the junior varsity team. You can see he got hit in the face on the cheek. He's in shock, I believe, because he thought the ball hit his helmet. Getting a CT scan and my sister, his mom, will be out soon. My nephew's bag of use was melted. So I approached the nurses (?) at the sign-in desk. I told him that the ice bag that he brought with him was all melted and reminded her that he was hit in the face with a baseball. The woman, nurse (?), sitting next him replied, "He'll be seen soon." This was when the man got up and left. So I asked her for some ice or a gel pack. She ignored me. Luckily, he returned with a gel pack. This was uncalled for-the ignoring me. It was a h.s. game and the ball was being thrown minimum 50mph. I understand that she is to remain calm, but this pissed me off. Acknowledge me, and get a bag of ice for my nephews swollen face. He was seen within 5-10 minutes after that. If not, I would have filed a complaint. Thank God, this is not my go to ER hospital!

Yelp
I don't know if I even want to post a review as I'm currently a patient. I came in with one issue, somehow I've had numerous tests run that have nothing to do with why I came in. I've just been advised of another test that is about to be run without any consulting with the doctor. I have met with numerous specialists that also have noting what so ever to do with the reason I'm here. When you try to ask someone, you are basically put off. I honesty wonder if they are running all of these tests as they know my insurance will pay. What they tell you isn't consistent either.

Yelp
This place is a joke. I will give you all my reasons why we had a bad experience here and why if you love your friends or relatives I would not risk their lives here.. 1. My husband asked for a doctor and the nurse literally said, "the doctors come and go so you will just have to wait till one arrives". YOU ARE TELLING ME THERE IS NOT A SINGLE DOCTOR THAT CAN COME SPEAK TO MY HUSBAND?? WE ARE IN A FREAKING HOSPITAL?!!! 2. The nurse did my husbands blood pressure earlier in the day and blood started coming out of his IV and hours later when the nurses came by to check on him I asked if they could clean it because it was literally dripping blood and the two nurses talked about it and then left.... no one came back and maybe 2 hours later one of the nurses came back and laughed and said did no one ever come back to clean this? ( I am so glad they think it's funny that their care sucks)!! 3. I clicked the Nurse button twice and no one ever came, no call no nothing. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF MY HUSBAND WAS CHOKING OR COULDN'T BREATHE OR HAVING TERRIBLE PAIN. This is a law suit about to happen when your loved one dies because the nurses don't pay attention to the buttons... I then clicked it for a third time an hour later and someone called over the speaker. Not acceptable. 4. My husband literally had to ask for a blood test because they don't care enough to try and get him better so we can leave and not pay thousands for terrible care. He got a blood test every day to see if his liver was getting better and he had to ask for proper treatment. 5. The respiratory therapist came in and I was lying in the bed with my husband, I stood up so that he could treat my husband and he tried to treat me.... like are you that dumb that you don't see the patient laying in the bed with an IV in his arm and you think I'm the patient?!?!?! (Seriously hoping this guy had a long day) Also you will wait for hours for any answers. You see a doctor whenever they feel like coming in apparently. Not happy about this place at all. It's a joke and we will not be returning. I will also be arguing the bill because I'm sure this place is going to be expensive and it's a joke.

Yelp
They don't give a crap about elderly patients! My mother took my great grandma in for severe leg and hip pain, after being there all night they sent her home saying nothing was wrong when she was in excruciating pain. My mom drives over to the heart hospital and boom right in, and she's got shingles! Y'all are a joke and should be investigated for abuse of the elderly! Y'all are disgusting and have no right even being called a hospital. Shame on this "hospital" for what they put my 91 year old great grandmother through!! Luckily she's getting the care she needs, nausea meds and antiviral meds followed by nerve blockers! Freaking POS place! DO NOT TRUST THEM AT ALL FOR GERIATRIC CARE! TAKE YOUR ELDERLY FAMILY SOME PLACE ELSE!! This place is disgusting!!

Abby G.

Yelp
Horrible service. My husband is currently in patient and has yet to be attended when calling a nurse. While I understand they're busy, they shouldn't take hours to attend a patient who has serious complications. Asked to speak to lead nurse, nothing. Asked to speak to manager, nothing. Food is the only thing that is worth it. Not sure it will be worth the bill they'll be sending us though.

Yelp
I am actually here in room 415 and I have been waiting for the nurse or nurse assistance to come for I don't even know how long. assistant nurse even answer me saying she was alone at the desk and wasn't able c=to come, I went close to the door and I can hear them chatting and laughng. It is ridiculous. will get out of here ASAP!!!!

Yelp
Just a FABULOUS experience through and through, from Mammogram to Screening Colonoscopy. Everyone from registration, lab, EKG, radiology, pre-op, endoscopy suite, anesthesia and discharge were first rate. Thanks for Caring Like Family! It really does make a difference :)

Yelp
If I had the option, I would give this hospital 0 stars. My grandmother was admitted as an surgery outpatient and was told to get there at 7:30 AM. In the pre-op room, the nurse told us that the surgery would take 2 hours "or a little less of a little more." There is a list on a TV screen in the outpatient waiting room. It showed the patient's doctor and ID number and the phase of the surgery. This was a nice detail, however, the screen was so small and placed high up, even I, with 20/20 vision, had to squint to see the screen. The screen notified us that my grandma's surgery started at 11:00 AM. So come 3:30 PM there was no new notification on the TV screen. Someone came out finally at 4:30 and said that she will be in the recovery room for an hour and then will be assigned a room. My grandfather (her husband) is diabetic and had been too nervous to eat as there was no word on her condition. So he skipped lunch and his afternoon medications that were to be taken with food. Finally, knowing at 4:30 that she was in recovery, he decides that he will eat. We took him out somewhere near and took 2 hours to eat at a restaurant. We went back to the hospital and asked what room she was placed in and was told that she is STILL in recovery and will be issued a room in 45 min to an hour! And upon finding this out, a male nurse told us in a very sassy manner that her surgery took 6 hours!! The doctor did not care to mention this! He simply drew a picture of what he did like he did in previous appointments to show us what he was going to do. Did not tell us that there were any complications, and did not care to mention why it took so long and why his nurse gave us a shitty time frame. Anytime we expressed concern, we were responded to by rude ass defensive staff! Like, I get it, your job is stressful but you chose to serve people! Please don't give us false hope, we want realistic explanations and possible outcomes so that we are prepared!!! Again, we had to get up and asked about her and was told she was put in a holding center and was still not issued a room. No one cared to notify us. Mind you this is around 8:30 PM!! We left the hospital at 9:15 PM knowing my grandma did not get a room assigned to her! If you can please take your loved ones elsewhere. I have had good experiences and heard good things about Doctors Hospital at Renaissance! **********UPDATE********** We returned in the morning to see my grandma and when we asked a lady at the front desk, she took a look at us all (4 people in total), she rolled her eyes and said "I only have one pass here!" And we asked if someone else had come to visit and she said "Psssh. I don't know ma'am, I see a lot of people I can't keep track of a specific person." And we asked how many people were allowed to visit and she said "only 2." We decide my grandpa would go. But we asked if we would be able to walk him up because he uses a cane and has a hard time walking. She rudely responded with "No, I can get him a volunteer." The volunteer comes out and was talking to his friends for a few minutes while my grandpa was waiting for him. We tapped on his shoulder and pointed out my grandpa and said he needed assistance. He took a look and my grandpa and walked ahead of him and we told him he needed to let him hold his shoulder to walk. Then we proceeded to ask the lady at the front to let us walk him and we will come back down because the volunteer was not helpful and was walking too fast for my grandpa. She said "YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M A VOLUNTEER, I DON'T GET PAID TO DEAL WITH YOU. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A COMPLAINT, GO TO ADMINISTRATION!" Boy, did we make a complaint! And we pointed her out and she got sent home on the spot! Good luck getting volunteer hours for school, you twat!

Yelp
The other reviewer of this hospital, Cyndie C., is the loved one that I accompanied for surgery. Her experiece varied greatly from mine, because she had a second procedure performed, which she felt so inspired to review. Being in the surgical services, I'm utterly appalled by what she experienced. The first time, when I was there, was the way things SHOULD be. Her second experience should never have happened. But, it did, and I'm forced to remove stars from them.

Yelp
I brought my mother to this hospital only because she was experiencing a medical emergency and it happened to be the nearest hospital. We had traveled to Reynosa, MX from Houston and we were about to head to Houston when my mother began to feel ill. I took her to the emergency room and I was very impressed at the high quality of care that my mother was provided by the nursing staff and the doctor in the ER. I was surprised that most of the nursing staff was male and that's not a problem at all, its just not what I'm accustomed to. They even asked me for permission to administer a Foley catheter and I consented to it since I know that they are medical professionals and that as long as she was being taken care of, we could care less if it was a male or a female doing it. All was well up to this point and I was even provided with a sandwich by Roland, one of the nurses. He and James were amazing as well as all the others involved and I just wish I could recall their names to thank them as well. Mom was transferred to the ICU later that night and I was able to stay by her side for a few hours before I had to leave due to the visiting hours. All the staff there were awesome as well. Mom was then transferred to a semi private room and I thought that the level of care in this area would be just as great as it had been thus far. I even assured my family in Houston that this place was awesome and she was in good hands. Now comes why I have lost faith in this place due to a couple of bad apples. Her nurse, David and the patient care assistant, Madelyn, ruined the overall experience due to their unprofessional attitude. I had just arrived at the hospital and my mother informed David, the nurse, that she needed to use the bathroom. He told her that she needed to call the assistant. He gave my mother instructions as to how to dial using the hospital phone. Well, mom called Madelyn and Madelyn told my mother that she was currently at lunch and asked her to wait. I informed David of what Madelyn said and then he said that I could assist my mother if I wanted to. Well, that's not exactly the right answer that I was expecting since he had originally told mom not to go herself but to call the assistant. I was frustrated by this point that I went to complain to the charge nurse and while I was voicing my complaint, David RUDELY interrupted me and said that I was lying and that I myself had offered to assist my mother. I asked him to stop interrupting me and that he was a nurse and should be more understanding or compassionate. I asked to speak to someone of higher authority and I was talked to by Gladis, the floor supervisor. I explained my situation to her and she was very apologetic and even stated that she would address the issue since it was handled poorly by David and Madelyn. I asked her if David thought that because he has a degree in nursing, he is too good to assist my mother in walking her to the bathroom. I also informed Gladis that I did not want David to take it out on my mother because I had upset him. She stated that another nurse would take over my mother's care and that she understood that the level of trust was no longer there. I told Gladis that we are from Houston and that we would get my mother discharged and transferred to another hospital either in the area or in Houston. I also told her that I work in the legal field and that I did not want to address this in a legal manner. She did offer to take my mother to the bathroom herself and by then, someone else was also here assisting my mother. I won't be leaving my mother's side in fear that my complaint will cause her level of care to deteriorate. If you can AVOID coming here, I'd highly recommend that you go somewhere else. I was even told by 3 people in this area that I should have taken her elsewhere due to the horrible past experiences that they have had with this hospital. I will most definitely be filing a formal complaint to the proper agencies as well as the hospital administration. AGAIN, DON'T COME TO THIS HOSPITAL! I'd give it zero stars if I could but the other staff really was very caring and professional.

Yelp
Terrible hospital. I was there with my dad for 4 days and never once met with the doctor. Kept in the dark the whole time and the idiot nurses only answer to every question is "I don't know". Most of them are Chinese and don't seem to understand English or Spanish. Don't ever go to this hospital.

Yelp
Terrible Covid-19 care. At best mediocre medical decisions based on suboptimal care for any patient of any level. Highly advice to look elsewhere preferably outside the Rio Grande Valley. The doctors giving the care from the emergency room to the ICU Covid-19 unit are taking chances on your life for their lack of training and limited resources due to hospital HMO's looking in any way to save money or even make more money during this pandemic. We lost a family member and had a terrible and frustrating time with the physicians for their unacceptable bed side manner to their inexperience in providing the proper medications when needed. One physician even gave us his condolence's days before our family member had passed away. Totally unacceptable!

Yelp
My moms stay started problematic and very agitated. She was not happy, not healthy and we were not getting answers! The hospital personnel was advised and to my surprise and enlightenment, we (my mom and I) were visited by staff! They not only discussed the problem they looked into it and provided a resolution. My mother is very happy which means my life is simplified

Yelp
I would give it no stars if I could. Service here is horrible. Nurses were rude to my grandpa when he stayed here. He had a bath for the first time in a week and the nurses didn't even bother letting the water run and washed him in cold water. We complained about it. Nothing was done about those nurses. Worst hospital ever! Transfer your loved ones out of here if you get the chance!

Yelp
Went for a test. Asked several times about price. Told price and agreed. Kept telling them I didn't want a bill showing up later. Assured that would not happen. In today's mail I have a huge bill. Talk about bait and switch. I hate lying. I would never had this test done. Next time I am going to demand a written statement before I go in the doors. They saw someone with insurance and took advantage.

Yelp
I am here today for an outpatient procedure with my wife. I don't like the fact that they gave her anesthesia that's starts working rather quickly then only a man takes her back to surgery. I believe once the anesthesia is administered they should have a female go with her not just a man. Now a days you never know what can happen. If she is knocked out she don't even know what's going on. To me this is not right. They need to change to where if a man has to take a woman to surgery there should also be a woman at her side. Also vice versa if a man is going into surgery

Yelp
This hospital is compared to ones in Mexico and maybe worse. Some of the local staff seem caring but not educated enough in all aspects of PICU. Doctor on call was very rude and short with words. Only using the word fine to describe everything!!!! We've been here for 3 days and we have yet to receive a guest tray or any real medical attention. The minute i formally complained, social worker came up immediately to try and fix the problem we were having. Too bad we already lost hope in this place. DONT COME HERE UNLESS YOU'RE PREPARED TO SUFFER OR DIE.

Yelp
I was admitted to the hospital with a 1.7 cm kidney stone. The Dr's are good and professional. The Nurses on the other hand are unprofessional, rude, inattentive and border line incompetent.

Yelp
This hospital is a real piece of work in the scheduling, and billing department. Nurses are nice and the care is ok. Let me start off by saying my recent experience. I had a surgery for the afternoon, of course I followed the directions and called within the aloted time period being from 4p-8p the day prior to my operation. Upon calling scheduler tells me to be there at 6a. I knew this was wrong because my physician told me the operation would be in the late afternoon. Of course the scheduler said that the time as right and I had to be there, the man seemed rushed and seemed like he didn't want to double check and what was I going to do? Not show up and miss my appointment. And being that the time I called the doctors office was already closed I couldn't confirm. So I tried Calling back literally 30 minutes later because I knew that the time was wrong and I wanted them to call and confirm with the doctor, time being around 530, need i remind you it is within the allotted time period that they give you to call. No one answered. So I have no choice but to pack up my 2m old at 4 in the morning (since I live 1hr away), my first grader had to miss school, and my husband had to take off work, to be there at 6a. Im almost completely prepped for surgery, when they come and tell me it's not until 130p. Which I knew, and after my husband and I expressed we were very upset because we knew the surgery wasn't supposed to be until the afternoon, they told us the scheduling department got to Go home early the day before, which is why the guy gave me the wrong time and didn't care to confirm the time even though I was persistent that 6a did not seem right. That being said, we filed a formal complaint against the scheduling staff, which we got a letter stating we claimed poor care from the nurses (which is not true my nurses were outstanding) and a complaint against my doctor, which is also untrue because it is neither of their fault the scheduling person was too much worried about going home instead of confirming. Now my 2nd incident with this hospital was December 2016, my first grader had a secondary hemorrhage from her tonsillectomy and was admitted into the hospital via ER. One month later I get a 2000$ bill in the mail for an eye operation! There was no operation period, and I had to spend over an hour on the phone with the insurance and billing company to get the situation straightened out. This hospital has great nurses and doctors. But the other people are horrible. The directors and other staff that are not medical are insensitive, they do not care about the patients time or money when they mess up. And it must happen often it happened 2x in less than a year in our family. It makes me question the type of people they hire, and the fact that it is very likely someone will go in for one surgery and get another due to their carelessness. My family will never attend this hospital again. And I will let my experience be well known that this is very mismanaged hospital with poor staff that cannot perform their jobs correctly (not the medical staff they're awesome.)

Yelp
Don't you hate it when you are waiting to go into outpatient surgery and you hear the nurse say, "Oh, I wish I would have known this before I opened the bag!" That is what I heard as the pre-op nurse put a pouch of penicillin on the IV hook. (I am allergic to this antibiotic) The care I received on Tuesday, September 30 was not pleasant. Two nurses tried to find a vein in my arm for the IV (bag of penicillin had been removed by this time, but I still did not have an alert bracelet). After numerous pokes, they were in agreement that they should get the nurse who was good at finding veins, however one said to the other, "She is too busy." Finally the third nurse came. She too had a hard time finding a vein, but she did! The problem now is, the other nurses have gone, and the remaining nurse can't hold the needle and tape it down by herself, so she needed to send the person who had accompanied me to find a nurse. When the anesthetist came she asked if I had allergies. When I mentioned penicillin, she went to get an alert bracelet for me. The first nurse came shortly after that with a bracelet and seemed annoyed that I already had one. She did give me another bracelet which said "Fall risk" as coming out of surgery, the staff would need be sure that I was able to walk with certainty before releasing me. I did not get the bracelet that stated that my right arm could not receive needle punctures. I did make it through the outpatient surgery. I have a wonderful surgeon. I waited in post op; awake, for 30 minutes before I realized that a nurse wasn't going to come. I had no call button, no monitor, and my IV was not dripping. It took another 15 minutes before I could get someone's attention to please get me something to drink. Another 15 minutes and the juice came. The new shift nurse took out the IV that splattered us both with saline solution; she thought the IV had been turned off. The wheelchair was there for me before I had a chance to finish my drink. I did not have to show my steadiness. I am truly thankful I had a responsible adult to be with me. Did I mention the pre-op room across from me had a patient and 6 visitors! The 4 year old was running up and down the corridor between the curtained rooms. Parents kept telling the child that the nurse would come and give him a shot if he did not stop yelling and running around. The staff also had to address the behavior to no avail.

Yelp
I had some outpatient speech therapy. Was told it was covered by ins but it was not. Then the bill came at a little over $1000 a session when the industry standard is under $100! There really is no one to talk to about your bill; just some collection department in another state. I did go up to the hospital, to a cashier's office, even though I was only supposed to call this number. I thought we had it worked out (the girl and I) but a reduced bill never came. Today (6 months later) I got a final notice bill, and for the original amount! A call, and I find the girl I worked it out with is long gone, so sorry but she didn't leave any record of a new amount. So, outrageous charges, and no one really to effectively talk to. So frustrating!

Yelp
I was not very impressed with this hospital. I came down from Dallas area to visit my uncle. I noticed there was a can of urine on his table (same one he uses to eat off of) there at 2pm. I went down to the lobby to give him time to eat his dinner. While i was in the cafeteria having a snack, the entire cafeteria floor was dingy and sticky. My flip flop was getting stuck with every step I took. When I came back up to the room, I noticed that they had served him dinner, without removing the container full of urine. Basically, they had him eat of of thr same table with the container of urine. Also, i noticed the trash can was full of waste so I started to wonder when was the last time it had been emptied. The nurses' gloves were already hanging off the edge of the trash can which then made me wonder when was the last time someone came in to actually clean the room. Then i openes the window and noticed the blinds were covered with layers of dust. This place is beyond filthy.

Yelp
I was on vacation and went into Rio Grande Hospital to check out a cough that I couldn't kick. I wanted to be sure it wasn't a returning pneumonia problem. I was put in a room and was very cheerful to the staff but it didn't take long for me to realize that the place was doing every possible test in their arsenal. I started getting impatient at the long wait and finally took off my gown, dressed myself and removing the tape and probes that were taped to me. I saw this coming as an overly expensive visit. I finally got out of there and would given them a zero star review. Then I got the bill. The doctor was a couple thousand, the lab was some outrageous amount and the hospital was over $4,000. I was furious. Furthermore, I was as a severe case when I was in great spirits and it was nowhere near an emergency. I guess the insurance company saw the fraud because they wouldn't pay the charges either. I'll be damned if I was going to pay that amount. This place is nothing more than a greedy revenue generating entity. Run as far from this place as fast as you can. I'd give them a negative star review but unfortunately, one star is the minimum this system will accept.
