Getting to the Heart of Rio's Brazilian Soul

"The Rio Museum of Art recently emerged from a renovation to offer rare film screenings, lectures, and its first immersive space, a multisensory experience inspired by Rio's natural phenomena; the museum's permanent collection features more than 31,000 items, including a piece by legendary Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral."

Beautiful, Interactive, and So Worth It! This museum was absolutely beautiful and full of life. It was very interactive and made learning about Brazilian culture so fun and engaging. We explored different genres of art—sculptures, photos, and even physical items we could touch. We got to make music, listen to traditional sounds, and watch powerful videos that brought the culture to life. Every part of the museum had something new and meaningful to experience. Highly recommend if you're in Rio—it’s a must-visit!

Google
Cool museum, astounding view over Rio and Museum of Tomorrow, the museum shows were well presented and interesting. Only problem : the museum only takes a card (no cash) for purchasing tickets. Luckily some nice Italian tourists let me give them $40 Reais to buy two tickets for me.

Museum is great. Shame the rude staff. They force you to leave your handbag and then make you wait in a massive queue together with the people entering the museum to pick it up. When you ask for their name they are rude and refuse to speak English just repeat whatever in Portuguese louder

Good space for exhibitions, however lighting of Funk exhibition could be better.

I definitely recommend the visit to understand a bit of the rich and diverse culture of Rio. As of today there's an exhibition around Funk, abolitionist women, carnival and indigenous language. We absolutely loved it. There's a terrace on the top floor with a lovely view, and a lift for accessibility purposes.

Having visited all the major art museums as well as many smaller, less known art museums all around the world, I can confidently say that the MAR is, without exaggeration, my favorite. A visit to Rio is never complete without checking out the latest exhibition. The MAR’s curation team sets the standard for what a good exhibit should look like. Every time I’ve come, I’ve been blown away by the collection and I learn so much from the multi-media and interactive expositions. This museum is very accessible to any kind of person, art lover or not, young or old, mobile or handicapped, this museum is truly for everyone. Every time I come I spend almost 3 hours here just to fully interact with the exhibits. THIS is what all museums should be like. It is important to note that the museum captions and descriptions are completely in Portuguese. In the future, the team should work on offering audio guides or English captions for tourists.

Google
This was quite an interesting museum. It is focused on Brazilian culture and Brazilian art. It is not the fanciest museum we’ve ever been to, but the subject is beautifully presented. It will give you a nice and unique perspective on current and indigenous Brazilian art and culture.

Yelp
In front of Amanhã Museum. It's not that good, but I would go anyway. I had the chance to see the Samba exhibition and it was very good indeed! The rooftop is totally worth it too. En frente al Museo del Mañana. No es tan bueno, pero iría de todos modos. Tuve la suerte de ver la exhibición de Samba y fue muy muy buena! La terraza vale la pena también.

Yelp
It is too bad that a museum that appears to be recently renovated houses quite a poor collection of artwork. It has random artwork that is placed haphazardly throughout the various spaces. I thought it was a waste of my money and time to visit this museum. I'd save your money and visit the more substantial Tomorrow Museum diagonally across from the Museu de Arte do Rio.

Yelp
Very little going on. Exhibits on display were really kind of gross, irritating and immature. Staff was fooling around. I would not go back here.
