The Best Time to Visit Machu Picchu: A Guide for First-Timers | Condé Nast Traveler

"A Sacred Valley base that pairs better space and dining with day trips by early train to the ruins, appealing to travelers who prefer more breathing room over an Aguas Calientes stay." - Paul Jebara

Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado

"Traditional materials and design create an exclusive enclave modeled on Andean village life, but five-star lavishness is also paramount at this intimate and secluded hotel on the banks of the Urubamba and close to the Ollantaytambo train station. The atmosphere is ultra-tranquil (no TV's!) and eco-conscious, with gourmet and organic Peruvian fare."

Rio Sagrado, A Belmond Hotel (Sacred Valley, Cusco) 3 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The way hotels are named these days, you’d expect “Sacred River” to be a bit of poetic exaggeration. It turns out the Rio Sagrado in question is the Urubamba, however, which happens to run through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Not your everyday sacred river. And the Belmond is not your everyday luxury hotel either. Though it’s a comparatively recent build, there’s nothing attention-grabbingly modern about it — the nineteen rooms and suites (and the two multi-bedroom villas) are patterned after a traditional Andean village, and their shapes and materials are meant to merge with the landscape." - Tablet Hotels

This hotel is everything we dream of when we travel! The views are breathtaking. The service (especially in the restaurant) was outstanding. The food was beyond good (better than a few of the Michelin Star restaurants we have been to) and feeding baby alpacas after breakfast one morning will be a memory that will pop up in my mind for the rest of my life. The rooms were gorgeous. We enjoyed the welcome snack. They even handed us bespoke luggage tags when we left! I love this place.

The hotel grounds are stunning but we stayed at the Q’inti 3 bedroom villa which was wildly dated- no AC, cheap mismatched furniture, tiny bathrooms, no blackout shades, no bathtubs. I have had larger bathrooms on cruise ships than in the primary bedroom in the villa. It felt like a 1990s Marriott- not a Belmond. Staff were generally great - especially at the spa and restaurant - and the property is gorgeous, but we were shocked at the quality of the villa for the price we paid ($2,500 a night). On the plus side the linens were great.

Our stay at Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado was nothing short of outstanding. The property is set in a breathtaking location along the Urubamba River, with serene gardens and stunning views that immediately create a sense of peace. The rooms are spacious, beautifully appointed, and blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. What truly set our experience apart were the activities offered. Feeding the alpacas on the grounds was a delightful and memorable highlight. We also enjoyed a private cooking class that showcased traditional Peruvian flavors in a fun, hands-on way. In addition, the guided hike to the Maras salt mines was both scenic and enriching, giving us a deeper connection to the Sacred Valley. The service throughout was exemplary, warm, professional, and attentive to every detail. A special mention goes to Hotel Manager Ray, who personally ensured that every aspect of our stay was seamless and truly memorable. Dining at the hotel was excellent, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a menu that reflected the richness of Peruvian cuisine. Belmond Rio Sagrado offers a perfect balance of luxury, authenticity, and cultural immersion. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Sacred Valley who wishes to enjoy not only world-class accommodations but also unforgettable experiences.

Belmond hotels are always impeccable and Rio Sagrada is no exception! I loved their wellness program that included pet therapy feeding the alpaca and arts and crafts. The dining experience was truly superlative with fresh salad and vegetables from their garden. The staff get a PhD in service and the accommodations are pristine. I would recommend this magnificent hotel for couples who want to reignite their romance and even as a wedding venue.

From the ceremony when we arrived to all the little details and kindness shown throughout made our stay here wonderful. The breakfast is fabulous. Arriving back from our sacred valley tour to find a lovely herbal reviving drink waiting in our room was lovely. Beds very comfortable

We absolutely loved visiting the Belmond Rio Sagrado. They made our Peru trip a very memorable one. We visited for lunch as we were staying at the nearby Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba. The food was amazing and the views were incomparable. The in house alpacas came by for a visit by the river as well and they were adorable!

The hotel is truly beautiful — the grounds are filled with flowers, the views are stunning, and we loved the baby alpaca feeding. The heated pool was a real treat, and the staff were consistently kind and welcoming. Dinner on both nights was absolutely delicious and memorable. That said, there were some misses we didn’t expect from a boutique, higher-end 5-star property. We were told the spa was limited to 30 minutes per stay, which seemed unusual, especially since we often noticed it empty for hours. Turndown service also felt poorly timed — almost always when we returned from a long day — and could have been easily coordinated with our dinner reservations, as other luxury hotels often do. Finally, communication was lacking around on-property activities. We later found out there had been things like ceramic painting and stargazing, but no one informed us, which was quite disappointing. Overall, the setting and hospitality were wonderful, but with better communication and attention to these small details, the experience could truly match the level of a top-tier boutique hotel.

Rio Sagrado exceeded my expectations! The room was stunning, the staff were absolutely amazing and the food at the restaurant was delicious and 5 star quality ! The service was truly some of the best I have experienced with little added extras and surprises throughout the stay. It’s a peaceful, relaxing stay. Feeding the alpacas was a memorable touch! Special mention to Dany who was fantastic and so lovely at every meal. Would 10/10 come back and recommend to everyone!
